Warhammer Starter Set

Great video PDM, after seeing this I regret not picking up the starter set at GenCon. It looks very useful and well made.

Wait a mo... Hold the die roll.... Someone said you're convalescing over foot problems... Now who would that be? Could it be dishonest Tom? Tim Thimblelark? (For those who know) Was it CNN? DBN? (Deathbringer news) whom? Thanks for the video. I was content to wait.

If people are truly looking for crunch in a FRP, go no further than Fantasy Hero. Based in the Hero System that Champions uses, how to say this, it is crunchy as %#@& and without critical tables.

Have fondness for Cubicle 7 as there an Irish company, and good people to boot. I have the main rulebook a, like yourself I steal a lot of ideas from the Warhammer world for my own campaign. But I'm tempted to pick up the starter set for the extra material. On the subject of crits; correct me if I’m wrong but doubles on D100 is still a 1 in 20 chance, correct?

Green Ronin just released the new edition of their Fantasy Age RPG. I'd like to hear your opinion about that.

I love WFRP - great setting, dark, grim. C7 is an incredible company. The quality of their products is consistently higher than most others. I've always gotten great customer service from them, and they seem to value their customers - unlike some large, balance sheet driven companies. If you are interested, I urge you to seek out Ratcatcher's Guild community. When I see PDM run his games, I get the sense it is similar in spirit to WFRP, but with much more streamlined rules. Highly recommend both!

Are those die fold? ;) I'm still debating on just getting the Warhammer book

Lemonsaurus

I thought Deathbringer was going to call the critical hit tables serenades

ViggenCA

Picked this up, and ended up getting the full core book. On my list of games to run in the near future

I love Warhammer, but like rules lite stuff. I bought Warlock! to fill this niche and hope to get it to the table, soon

Reminds me of the RuneQuest starter set. It also had foldout character sheets with character art, and a plethora of goodies

Brent Norton

I will definitely pick this up. The only problem I have with Cubical 7 is the type for the print is so small. I almost have to us my mini painting glasses to read them.

I really like WFRP, even better than 5e. However, it does get a little on the crunchy side. I prefer a more streamline version - in fact it is something I have been working on in what little spare time I have.

Question - which I did not catch if you answered. Is it STILL the deadliest?

Just FYI with regards to the static weapon damage, it's not entirely static. For example lets pretend a knight attacks a bandit with a sword. The knight and the bandit would make an opposed test with their weapon skills. If the attacker wins they hit and get an advantage token. Damage is then the weapon's static damage + the number of degrees of success of the hit. So let's say the knight had 55 WS and the Bandit had 37 WS. The knight rolls a 04 and the Bandit rolls a 27. The knight has 5 success levels and the bandit has 1. The Knight hits for 12 damage (5 SL +4 for sword+3 for strength) and gets advantage which gives him a +10 bonus next attack, making it more likely he will do even more next time.

Warlock is great but I personally don't like how his newest books moved away from 'oldhammer' style art and are now generic midjourney stuff

Ben Waters

Yeah you'd subtract the 1 SL of the bandit along with his armour in hit location 40 and his toughness bonus

ArcaneCowboy

Thanks for this. Have you done anything on Zweihander? They also have a lovely starter box these days.
