Shame about the news PDM

Beardy B.

Gasp! An outtake with NSFW language! This is the Patreon content I am here for, lol. But seriously, good luck at court. And hopefully Mr. Manganiello, will find a path to make a film or even a limited series with Dragonlance. I don't hold out hope of anyone prying any IP loose(unless they are willing to pay far more than any project is worth) from the cold dead fingers of Hasbro's last lawyer. IP ownership is like owning a prize stud, but you also own part of any calves they sire as well. It makes a lot of money, but it's all kinda bull...

Steven Fader

Good luck in court! Bummer on DragonLance, but, honestly, I wouldn't be interested in it because it is linked to Hasbro (even if it was good). Hopefully it will get picked up someday by someone working for a company worthy of the IP.

Firstspear

Saw the news on Dragonlance yesterday. They should go forward without the D&D branding if at all possible, but I think they hold the IP. On the cursing - we are all human. Hater gonna hate, so try to ignore them. On the court stuff - good luck!

WOTC fumbles yet again.

Dear Professor, DragonLance news, what is DragonLance? I eschewed the entire DragonLance phenom in the 1980s, I did not get it then and I don't get it now. Yes, I am aware I am broken some how. :P I loved that Hasbro won't license the DragonLance IP to Joe Manganiello, aren't these the same guys who just warned about an earnings revenue dip in 2024. What a bunch of moroons. Yep, Tenkar mentioned the shipping delays of the Monster Manual. I am not surprised, I think they are all hands on deck getting the VTT and Players Handbook ready for Xmass, we shall see. Also, as you said, it is hard to print books when you fire all of the book SMEs. As for a new RPG to celebrate the 50th anniversary of D&D being Monopoly thinking, sure I can see your point but Wizbruhs has done almost nothing to recognize the 50th anniversary of D&D milestone. It is not like they haven't had twenty seven years to plan for it. Wizbruhs could have at least released new source books like Faerun or Greyhawk or a collector edition of the original game or something, this is just bad marketing on their part. Also, I too don't get the whole, I hate you; TAKE MY MONEY, thing. I don't purchase Games-Workshop products anymore because they hate their customer's and charge way too much; yet they are wildly popular. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I look forward to getting sticky in Tom's basement with y'all. Does that sound odd? hmm... Best Regards, MrGunn PS: I LOVED your Fake Orc video, I liked and commented here and on YouTube. PSS: Good luck in court.

A Name Apart

I am not sad about not getting true blood version dragonlance. But if the dude actually cares he can go the Larian Studios route and first prove he can make a good game/series and then be awarded the license

NØKKEN_WAITS

That was not a moment of weakness. That was great. Strongly agreed.

50th anniversary of the game and they are delaying the release

Craig Sutherland

The release isn't delayed - although there was a mistaken May 21st date shown for the core rulebooks noted during PAX that got corrected during that same show, Jeremy Crawford has recently stated that May 21st was never even considered as a release date for those books and they anticipated to still be working on the books at that time. This feels like messaging looking to create a bad news narrative on the WotC hate train. DragonLance getting shut down is definitely bad news, but I cant say the same for the core book release dates. I know these videos do well, but in my opinion, labelling the core books dates as "delayed" is a bit of a gaslight situation and just helps to push negativity around. I'd have rather seen you contemplate if behind the scenes they struggled with the date instead of putting out like this. I am just providing my feedback as I want to see more positivity in the TTRPG community, and more nuanced takes on the bad news situations. I hope this feedback is taken in the spirit I intended here. I hope you legal troublers are sorted out soon PDM, and hopefully in your favor. PS: Before any assumptions are made that I should look at PDMs treasure trove of other content unrelated to Drama, I do all the time and I share with my friends liberally! I know the YouTube algorithm favors the more negative stuff though.

Chad Wilkerson

I’m sure PDM will be gracious in accepting your feedback. …but then again, he is from New York. 😎🤌🏻

Dragonlance was actually my introduction to D&D. My parents wouldn’t let me hang out with the kids who played (they had long hair and wore studded leather jackets and Iron Maiden tee shirts, after all), but they would let me read pretty much anything I wanted. One of the D&D rockers, Aaron, showed me the Dragonlance modules he owned (2e, I believe it was?) and told me about the novels. I was all about it! First books I ever *voluntarily* read cover-to-cover. All that to say: super disappointed in the news about Joe M.’s series. I was very much looking forward to it. 😓

William Watkins

It’s been a bummer hearing Joe talk with such frustration in that interview about how it came out. And he’s a pro, so clearly to me the “regime” at Hasbro is to blame for this. And I love his use of that work to convey a lot in his interview. I just started reading those books, and when they came out I had left the hobby already, but I know I am being denied some amazing content from a creator/producer who would do it complete justice, and I can only hope he can get some help in getting that content out.

MrGunn

@Craig Sutherland Ohhhh 🤌🏻! Gaslight situation, negativity, I think you's is in the wrong neighborhood, pal. I am definitely on the WotC Go To Hell's Kitchen train, but I don't think PDM is spreading the 'hate' here.

MrGunn

@William Watkins Same regime responsible for the OGL, Pinktertons and drop in revenue.

Todd Sharp

I will chime in with a comment on the executioner/verisimilitude video you mentioned at the tail end of this video. I, for one, like those videos. Coming up with a facet of 'real life' that I can add that surprises the players with a cultural difference is always fun. Thanks for passing along the 'nuggets' of historical knowledge that you do.

Sid Stubbe

On the bright side, Netflix has Delicious in Dungeon, which I'm loving. No iron rations? No problem! Professor DM, please do a review!

steven bray

So just to mention, your orc video didn't even pop up in my normal feed. I usually watch the videos here now so i didn't even realize you had a new video out that i missed. The algorithm didn't like it i guess.

Craig Sutherland

Not necessarily hate, but helps to perpetuate a negativity when the first thing you see is "Delay" as that isn't accurate. It just frames it in a negative light from step one. Nothing wrong in talking about the nuances, or expressing displeasure about it, but it is framed more in line with some of the more sensationalism oriented content creators out there. I am immediately reminded of the prior controversy of "D&D is being sold to Tencent!" and how that eagerness to spread negativity backfired on many content creators. Just my opinion though. We can all agree to disagree if that is the case.

Adrian Webster

As someone who has a copy the executioner Franz Schmidt's journal, I am definitely interested in that video.

The people who watch your Pork type videos are your hard core. They are the people who run a game a week and love ttrpg's. All the other views are tourists, simple as.

My son loves your nuts and bolts videos (mechanics and storytelling) and my daughter loves your crafting videos. Looks like we have some new stuff to look forward to.
