After 5 weeks of this movie being out, it's finna time! We're watching KPop Demon Hunters. This was, as expected, really fun. But I'm honestly shocked as to HOW much I enjoyed it. Also retroactively after my reaction, I think I figured out what Rumi's character design reminds me of: Elsa from Frozen!

A few "fun facts" for the movie: The movie reached top 10 in all 93 countries tracked by Netflix and Top 1 in 33 of these countries including South Korea. It's the first Netflix film ever to reach a new viewing peak in its fifth week of release. It's the most watched animated movie on Netflix and might reach Top 10 most watched movies overall on Netflix. "Golden" now has collected 502 PAKs (Perfect All Kills) making it #3 on the list of songs with the most PAKs in Korean chart history. "Soda Pop" firmly sits behind "Golden", but all songs are somewhat popular in the charts. In the US Saja Boys and HUNTR/X are now the highest-charting "K-pop" groups in spotify history, surpassing BTS and BLACKPINK. The OST and songs broke numerous international records. For example "Golden" broke the record set by Disney’s Frozen OST track "Let it go". It reached #1 on Billboard Global of course. Just to name a few. So the OST is insanely successful. The singing voice for Rumi is EJAE. She is also credited as main writer on many of the songs including "Golden". EJAE was a SM trainee at one point before moving back to america and focusing on song writing / producing. She wrote for many K-Pop groups like Red Velvet, aespa, Le Sserafim, Nmixx or Twice. The Black Label helped with the song production on most of these songs. Thats why there are many Black Label producers like ido, 24 or Teddy himself credited for most of the songs. I find it funny to think about "K-Pop Fans" who for years complained about Teddy or Black Labels "formula" and "boring song production" (especially with Blackpink) who now love KPop demon hunters and celebrate those songs not knowing, how heavily involved Black Label producers where. Especially the first song is so obviously Blackpink / Black Label coded. Golden on the other hand reminds me more of IVEs "I Am". Maybe its the high notes or the plane.

EJAE really was the mvp for me in all of this though. Her voice was soo Beautiful and I liked how she portrayed the voice struggles and cracks with Rumi's demon DNA taking over and blocking her voice early on. That was so nuanced and well done

2026-09-16 07:00 SAme thought about the title, I was skeptical in watching the movie because the title is cringe but aside story wise all songs are bangers. Indeed Ejae was the GOAT in this movie at same time since she was an SM trainee and was in a debut line up for SNSD and Red Velvet. It would've been insane and hard choosing between Ejae and Wendy as Main Vocalist. Andrew Choi(Jinu's voice) is still in SM as a composer. How awesome like this movie a collab between SM,JYP and YG. I do think one of the reasons this movie blew up esp for Kpop fan because it is relatable as a fan though there are exaggerations such as joint fan sign for both girl and boy group, coz that will never happen and Jinu-Rumi was not caught by dispatch on the hill, lol. jk I haven't heard also about the racism thing if it's about the Doctor, it was referencing about Oriental Medicine, coz it is very popular in Korea but Western Medicine see it as less effective of treatment at the same time some scammers really do use this opportunity to sell fake "health products". ok I have just looked up about the Vietnam boycott, it's about the lyric of "fit check for my napalm era".

Yup it was about the song lyric. I let my gf explain it to me, since she's Vietnamese. She said that a lot of Vietnamese view it as insensitive to use that term in a fun context like a song to brag about smth because of their history. I get it. I think they should've probably just not used the term. But that's all I view it as: stupid decision making.
