So it's been a while since my last update. I had to take a break from everything. Unplug from the constant feed of information, notifications, needs of others. My body was starting to rebel with my imbalance of work/life. I don't like to talk too much about that stuff because I believe you give more energy to the things you talk about good or bad.

So Iets stick with the good part and talk about my new again journey into 3d for the 4th or 5th time. But this time, my goal is to master it, not just dabble in it. I'm in the middle of taking this course by an artist named, MinusT. He's self taught, the course is all in Korean but I think reading the subtitles helps me focus more.

3D software can be hard to learn, there's just so much to remember. I have over 400 notes I've taken while learning Blender. He starts with this simple character first to help users learn the basics. (of course I changed her into my style. You can see the goat girl she was supposed to be at the bottom of this post.) Later, he'll teach how to to make a more complex model along with animations, backgrounds and VFX. I'm only about 10% of the way into into his Blender course.

It'll be a couple years before I'm competent with Blender but I'm ready to be a full-fledged 3d artist/ animator. The benefits are so great, refining one model and getting to animate it like a puppet. So much more efficient than drawing 100's of images to make a 2d animation. I'm getting too old foe that shite. I'll still draw 2d pinups though.

The images near the bottom we're my first attempts at posing and displaying this character. Lighting and camera focal lenses change the look so dramatically. Had fun creating camera angles I'd normally avoid drawing. This model is very basic, no fingers/toes or facial features to articulate. The model isn't optimized, it breaks if I try to make more 'interesting poses'. The next model will be more intricate. My goal is to achieve an Overwatch/Pixar blend of 3d art style as I improve.

Also making tons of progress on Akumi Mobile this month. I can say for sure we'll have a 2nd play-test ready by the end of April.
Onwards and Upwards!

Hey that's great news and your model looks pretty damn good and faithful to your 2D stuff. When you figure out shape keys, let me know xD that's what's always thrown me for a loop (cut)

Greg

I thought you would like that lol godspeed, good sir! Cannot wait to see what you make in 3D!

Darterrius

Was wondering where you went. These models look great.

Malakai

That looks great. With your creative mind you would make a great 3D artist, modder, asset maker and many more with your creative abilities. Great Job, Miltonius 🤍

Welcome back chief, love the 3d model.

So, wait. Your ditching 2d vector animation all together? I was going to choose vector art as a main. How taxing was the process of making the characters and the animations? I remember your previous work on Newgrounds that was really good. I'm not saying that you should go back to that, God no! You do you, man! But, do you have any advice for those who may want to get into vector animation? Just asking from a fan.

Never say never but making long form 2d animations is not something I'm interested in doing right now. I've always wanted to transition to 3D since early 2000's but learning it took so much time commitment. And I was still interested in making 2d animations. Now I feel I've explored everything that interests me about 2d animations. Tips? Keyframes are king. For the longest time my focus was to make things as smooth as possible. But if your keyframes and timing are full of life and clear, the animation will work, will feel alive. After that, making it smooth is just bonus.

Also, when I get lost in the 3d software, AI has the answer to the confusion. Back in the day, it was so difficult to get the answers.
