What I’ll be posting more during the week are more post production stuff I do before I dive into the actual animations.

I’m liking the raincoat and boots look for the girl. The monster is good but I want him to be even MORE creepy!

As I contemplate this animation more, I’m thinking it could be an alternate reality Akumiverse. This could make for some interesting ideas and fun.

How hard would it be to animate the raincoat? And maybe include some hard angles in the monster? Like the back?

miltoniusarts

The raincoat will be pretty easy. It covers the torso so it’s basically a “Bell” shape that I’ll animate. But I’ll find out for sure once I make her move. Anglular shapes in the design will happen naturally once I start animating the creature in Flash. Sharp angles are, design wise, more efficient to draw. I instinctively want to put sharp angles on all my art. Drawing curves is something I have to consciously do now.

Sometimes with creepy less is more. Imagine the creature was a little bigger, but because of his size, most of the time you only see parts of him. A leg here, a claw there, eyes passing by. Also, maybe make the tail bigger why not.

Yep the tail is a great device to create movement. In his final design, I left it out. Time to add it back in!

Well if you ask me... It more about what you don't see.. in what can help to make something creepy. Like in the first alien.

Ever think about who might play Akumi (or Creepy Girl, etc.) in a live-action production?

Reno

Hey Milton! I like where the brainstorming and ideas are going! I look forward to seeing the final product in this animation :) Oh, How do you go about finding the right voices to match your characters? As always, keep up the good work!

miltoniusarts

Zendaya was mentioned in a Live Stream for Akumi and I agree she’d fit the characters look pretty good. Gotta imagine her with white hair and violet eyes. Maybe Aubrey Plaza for Creep Girl. She’s already pretty strange which is awesome. 😁

Thanks Reno! All of these processes are important. I’m pretty excited to see how this turns out too. As for voices, it’s usually the last step we do. I have an idea of the personality they have. It’s then up to the person or friend we know to try to bring it to life. Every voice you’ve heard in my animations has been either a friend or family member. 🙂
