We do actually have a limited version of this kind of gun law here in the UK, specifically in Northern Ireland. It is a criminal offence to pass a registered gun to someone else in Northern Ireland unless the transfer strictly follows the law. Both parties must possess a valid Firearm Certificate (FAC) for the specific weapon, and the transaction must be formally logged with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). Under the Firearms (Northern Ireland) Order 2004, it is illegal for any person to purchase, acquire or possess a firearm or ammunition without holding an appropriate, valid firearm certificate for it. Handing over a firearm, whether by selling, giving, lending or hiring it to someone who is not authorised to possess it, constitutes an illegal transfer and puts both individuals at risk of prosecution.
