While I was on vacation I had some time to reflect on the work I've been doing and what I want for the near term.

One thing I haven't been happy with for a long time now is the slow pace of the comic. I've noticed when I sit down to work on it, I can build momentum and get a lot done if I work on it for several weeks at a time. But usually when I start to build that momentum I have to stop to work on something else. And then sometimes I'll end up going a month or more between working on pages. (E.g. I'll release 2 pages at the beginning of one month, then not til the end of the following month.)

I've decided to make a change for the summer where I focus primarily on the comic. My goal is to at least double the number of pages I'm doing each month (one per week, on average), and possibly do more than that. It's something of an experiment to see how much I can get done and how that workflow works for me. I'll re-evaluate where I am around September or so and see if I want to continue with it or shift back to something else.

Along similar lines, I've realized that if I want to do more 3D work, I need more practice with things other than building characters, and generally just more practice with things that aren't porn. Unfortunately this is a hard sell for a Patreon like this. (I know a lot of people are happy to support me regardless of what I'm doing, and I really appreciate that! But also a lot of people can't afford to sub to a Patreon that's not providing what they want and I totally understand that too.) So taking a break from posting regular 3D work will hopefully give me a chance to work on some of these other exercises and general practice that I need to improve my skills in 3D.

The obvious solution to both of these things is to focus more on the comic for a time and put 3D on the back burner. I do still really want to do my game project idea, and I've actually made some decent project towards that already this year. I'm still going to be working towards it, I just have to do some other stuff first.

And obviously I'm still doing sketches and other art for fun. That said, because the comic pages are full color, I might end up doing a lot more sketches and less full color art for the next few months, since all the coloring I'm spending time on will be for the comic specifically.

Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know what I've been thinking about and what I'll be focusing on. I'm going to try it for the next 3 or 4 months, and if it goes well I'll keep it going for a while.

Thanks!

PS—For everyone who is following my Patreon but not actually subscribed, this also means I'll be releasing more pages publicly faster too. I plan to release one a week to start, and then probably more often once I build up a little more of a buffer. I post the comic publicly on Bluesky, Itaku and Weasyl.

I'll support whatever you want to do. In all honesty I'm glad to see this because I'm basically here FOR that comic, and I love it, but I also love your other work and I'm happy to support whatever you turn your attentions to.

A lot of people are here for the comic, yeah, haha. That was a big factor in my decision too.

I'm here to support YOU, no matter what it is! I know I always say it, but I hope it's always nice to hear. Still, I know momentum is super important, not just for productivity, but just for... general satisfaction with your work. I imagine so, anyway.

Pulsar

I always do appreciate it though :>

One of the things you might do, that I've seen some people do, is colors on the characters, and then little to none on background. A great example is Luxars wildly normal series

I've been doing the backgrounds in Blender for this comic. So the background color comes automatically with building the scene. The backgrounds that aren't from Blender are just simple color fills already, so I'm kind of already doing that. Doing the entire comic in black and white would speed things up significantly. But I'm so far into it now, doing it full color, that I think I'm just going to keep that going to the end.

Thanks for the update! Your rationale seems sensible to me, and kudos to you for trying out new workflow strategies. Don't forget to also have fun, when you get the chance! The whole "work/life balance" thing is an important part of self-care.

I’ll always hang around for your arts! Please be weary of burnout though. ❤️
