Kind of an all-over-the-place modeling video, but I try to cover some efficiency tips (probably especially useful for beginners, though I like a lot of the techniques at the end), and we make a storefront! Also here's the refraction tut I mentioned: https://www.patreon.com/posts/refraction-tut-57007748

Burning the midnight oil modeling a cool scene and you drop a new video at the perfect time! Glad to know I’m not the only crazy one still up at 4am haha

whittacles

"Kind of an all-over-the-place modeling video" The best kind of modelling video!

IanHubert

Brett!!! We need to go to bed!!

Jim Derks

Love these kind of videos. Hope you enjoy your NYE, any goals/milestones you have for next year? I'm hoping to finish my Halo shortfilm trailer next year! And switch from Flame to Nuke at home.

Volen CK

Disagree on the "what can we learn from this image" not being fun for others - would totally watch and learn a huge amount from you doing that. Fun. Guaranteed. Thank you for all the awesome tuts Ian, always look forward to your videos. Hope you have a great time over the holidays!

Richard Cave

Bit annoyed you were in Watford (I sometimes work at Leavesden (Warner Brothers), and I did not know I would have loved to have met up with you and shared the craziness that is my life; in reality, I would have scanned you and put you in my film, as evil Ian. Thank you for this. I learnt loads,

Kryat Lore

Hey, Ian, loved the video. I also have a new tip for you! There is an easier way to offset edges. Just do Ctrl + E, and the first option, "Offset Edges", will give you three different ways to perfectly offset any edge you want. Have fun!

Dave Makes a Movie

As a Brit, it's fun to see you have enthusiasm for our store fronts when they only bring me depression and misery. Another fascinating video anyway! Hope BLADDY OL' INGLAND treated you well.

Stephan

Thanks for this post Ian! I really appreciate the refresher on modelling and seeing some hints at other approaches less dependent on image textures/more procedural. It's super useful to have both of those in the toolbox. Always happy to see the same tools applied to different situations as well. Even if the variation is minor.

Daniel Skomorovsky

11:10 tip for the ultra lazy: blender has custom trim (and other) presets for custom bevel profiles if you just click on that "Preset" dropdown!

Tim L.

Merry Christmas Ian, even though it's a bit too late now <3

Mario Taylor

Thank you so much, Ian!! I have kind of been away from Blender for a while and struggled to get inspired again and here you drop the perfect video for this!

IanHubert

AH! I missed that thanks! I was even thinking "man I wish this was a preset!"

Kelly Nugent

I learned so much from this video!

Zeke Faust

Your modelling videos are my absolute favorite!

NickTricc

holy moly yes please. I use iPhone and have had weird problems with the perspective thing! If you can help with correcting that, that'd be amazing! Been following you for years (about 5 I think?) ... no idea how,, which is.. PLEEASE! also great tut, as always. love you Ian.

SwaMusic

A nice comfy heavy hitter to close out 2024! Truly our 2020s Bob Ross of VFX/3D! Happy little tris!

Phil South

Haha so cool you've been living in Watford. I'm from Hemel Hempstead originally which is just down the road. Why have you been there? What I miss?

Mark Pratt

Find these kinds of videos really helpful because the first time (many years ago that I subscribed to your Patreon) I found it impossible to recreate what you were doing even though I understood the basics of blender. Still struggling with modeling but after this video I have hope :)

IanHubert

Oh! We were basically neighbors! I've been working some at the Warner Bros Leavesden lot! I'll be back there for a while in a few days, actually (been in Kings Langley quite a bit). I don't know what my schedule will be like (probably crazy!) but we should meet up!

Stephen Hilyard

Hey Ian, as a former brit I think it takes next level enthusiasm and curiosity to find inspiration in Watford High Street LOLz. Thanks for another corker!

DogEnds

Classic Ian… explains something very interesting then says “I think nobody else will find this intresting”

Thomas Sturm

Love your modelling videos! It's so freeing to see you model a store front like that without ever even bothering to measure anything. I'm always obsessing about weird details ("Is this door tall enough?" etc) but your approach is so much better - model the thing and then just scale it until it looks right. Several amazing tips in here for details in Blender that I missed - there is a select by texture??? Also need to explore limited dissolve, how did I never use that, OMG.

Thomas Sturm

Also, Happy New Year and good luck with the work in Britain! Have some HobNobs while you are there. :)

Divdiv

This would unironically take me a week to do and he does it casually in under an hour...

richard schneck

Hey Ian. On the iphone, go into settings>camera> lens correction and turn it off. Then rejoice. (rejoicing may be optional, but that's what I did.)

Nahuel

Hi Ian, your videos are really gold, I started with Blender a year ago and following your tuts I feel like I'm going forward with giant steps. I have one question: in which occasions do you use Eevee ? Because in some of your older videos like the video screens you use that engine. Do you often start doing things in eevee and for the renders use cycles ? Thanks a lot !!!!!

Alejandro Rios

Hi Ian, a quick beginner question. I upgraded to an RTX 3060 but my render times are the same - in Eevee, nontheless. What could be happening? 😬

William Cousert

Does Eevee take advantage of an RTX card?

Jason Dillard

Have you configured your new RTX for blender?

Alejandro Rios

How? I went to preferences and selected it for Cycles, but it does not give me the option for Eevee 🫤

Jahluu

What did you upgrade from? have you installed new drivers?

Chad Wadden

Uhm. Has there been any content in Jan or Feb yet? I thought I missed something?

Tewan

Ian we miss you!! ♥

William Cousert

I think he's still on assignment in the UK. Patience.

Jahluu

having the shivers and shakes without Ian uploads

Clarity

man, these videos are some of your best imo, just seeing your process modelling stuff always teaches me so much. This and your digital extension video are some of my personal favorites

Sheryl Seagraves

I just joined the Patreon and watched this video last night - AMAZING!! I learned more in this than I have in the past month in my various courses/tutorial. Thank you so much for sharing your processes!

aetherrace

On 03:20 how to switch between "materials" what's the short cut?

Sheryl Seagraves

Anyone know what the background is that he drops in at the end??

Josh Bailey

Just going to echo everyone else here and say these videos are always so helpful. I'm so bad at modeling and always learn big things in these videos.
