A Tour

bittergourd

Yep, definitely need to catch the Southworth ferry over and hang out. :)

Blake Rizzo

AND BUNKER CONDIMENTS! MY FAVORITE KIND OF CONDIMENTS.

Anonymous

Is it just me or does anyone find that whole complex really interesting

Mike Lea

I should have known you were on Prospect! That movie is so damn rad. I love it so much, it’s beautiful to look at. It’s influenced and inspired by all the same things that I have been so there was this perfectly Prospect shaped cradle in my brain just waiting for it to nestle in.

IanHubert

Wooooo!!!!! I can't wait!! We're playing it safer than most with the virus, because Kaitlin has a complication that could be pretty gnarly, but as soon as that's over, that sounds great :D

IanHubert

Man yeah!!! The whole experience was so so cool. Easily the coolest film I've ever gotten to be a part of. Their sense of design/aesthetic is amazing.

Markom3D

Thank you for sharing. What is your day job? If you have one

Anonymous

I've always wondered how far out is your studio from Port Orchard? is it like behind the trees and there's like a walmart, or is it a 1 hour drive before you see the closest gas station?

Pete Burges

What a find! So much potential, as well as what you're already doing with it, and so many interesting oddities around the place. I bet that giant hole will come in handy one day...

Arielvaale

Seriously. This moment was just so great. You give me so much joy, Ian.

bittergourd

Oh for sure, not now at all. In the future. I am in the same boat healthwise. By the way, I was wondering what is PC configuration that you do most of Blender work on? Also, where abouts in the Olympic Peninsula did you guys film Prospect?

2026-09-20 10:00 Dang dude nice spread. I’d love to bring me and my robot band up to play on that stage.

Haha, a little in between; we're only like 12 minutes from downtown Port Orchard, but it's a small town and we're enough in the boonies where everyone has their own weird thing in the woods going (I've met very few neighbors). Kind of a tradeoff- very cool to have the outdoors so accessible, and room for projects, but can definitely feel a little isolating at times. More friends are moving out towards this direction, though, so we'll see what the future's like!!

IanHubert

Do you.... do you have an actual robot band???

bittergourd

Also, you said collaborative space. Definitely would love to come over and collaborate. Eventually. :)

IanHubert

Man yeah! Getting this place was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life (such a convoluted process- took 7 months), but I just couldn't imagine finding another place that was so perfect. And seriously- always nice to have a giant hole in your back pocket.

Mike Lea

I know it’s a bold statement but I really do put it on my mental shelf with movies like Blade Runner, Alien, Dune, and Star Wars In regards to world building and design. It feels so real and none of it is over explained or over presented, but you know that if you went digging into it all that lore and history is in there somewhere. It really motivates me to work more on my art so I might have an opportunity to be a part of something like that.

IanHubert

VFX work is basically all I've done for the past 15 years, lots of shorts/music videos/commercials/Microsoft gigs :) Lately because of you guys here on the Patreon I've been able to focus a ton more on random experiments/personal stuff, so thanks a ton! :D

IanHubert

DUDE YEAH the condiments are seriously the final piece of the Bunker Puzzle (also we took some old trash bags out of the hole once and expected it to be like severed heads but it was MORE condiments). ALSO you gotta come visit when this virus stuff calms down!

Mike L. Taylor

Where is the bts showing that the whole tour was really screen green screen comped with photoscans?

Blake Rizzo

I am so down and excited to visit when the virus is up! (SpongeBob voice: One year later)! I'm between Seattle and Tacoma so I think it's pretty close!

James Candy

Wow, that's such a cool space! I'd like to have a place like that one day where I can build and film and just make whatever I want to, without having to worry about the neighbors complaining or calling the police. I also really like the idea of being able to collaborate with other people in a place you have complete control over. Your studio looks like it's coming along really well, Ian!

Blake Rizzo

(no but seriously we shall see how the virus goesss!)

Zeke Faust

I love your attitude towards art and collaboration. My partner and I have the same goals with our company. Would be awesome to work together someday. When I originally watched Prospect I had no idea you worked on it, but my first thought on finishing was "that world building is on another level!!"

Bo Maryniuk

Awesome. I know jealousy is a very bad thing, but I am still damn jealous you have that concert hall space. :-) I am struggling to find at least half of that size to setup my BLUE SCREEN space. It is slightly in the middle of nowhere, but as long as logistics works, why not! Awesome!

IanHubert

Oh man yeah, and it's one of those films where you only see like 5% of the effort they put into it, too!! Some of these bins have, like, her journals, and USER MANUALS for various props, like, the ships and the guns, and you can open them and they're full of diagrams and stuff in their special language- it's absolutely unreal. My favorite are the chocolate bars- they created custom molds to create caramel filled chocolate bars with this alien character on them, and custom wrappers and all that, then just made a pile of them. It's so cool, hahaha

Mathias Wenzel

Ah come on this hole is just one of your VFX magic tricks i won´t fall for it :-) Get it ? Fall? - Nevermind - Nice tour.

Alex Kelly

Thanks for the tour Ian.

Mario Taylor

Such a cool place you have found, Ian! Thanks for showing us. 😊 And I love the whole collaboration philosophy! I could only dream of any kind of collaboration with anyone though since I'm also isolating extra much because of medical issues that put me in a risk group, but most of all because it would be kind of one-sided since I need to develop some skills first. 😄 I have tons of crazy ideas that I want to realize though so I'm definitely working on it.

BingusGringus

That's absolutely the coolest thing I've seen in a while. I have no skills whatsoever but would love to collaborate there one day :D

2026-09-20 10:00 I asked my wife to translate the Chinese sign, but it's too blurry to read (especially since the characters are a bit "fancied up" and also rather ancient)

gary hardesty

Wow! Your space(s) are so great!!!

Abraham Mast

Amazing Ian! What a fun space to work. Have yall experimented with miniature sets before?

Mornarion

Your place is so amazing, I wanna cry when I see all that nature around, and all the SPACE to create wonderful things. I can't complain too much since, despite living in a city, all I see from my windows are trees, so rather cool. But it's lame by comparison...

Sean O'Skea

Thanks for the tour. Makes me miss WA. I suspect your secret bunker is probably an old septic tank, but abandoned bunker is far more fun.

Anonymous

Thank you for the tour! you're amazing

John Zwick

You definitely need to composite a 1,000-foot chasm under the weird walkway

A.A. Sh4d

lots of possibilities

IanHubert

Ahaha! I want to do something like that! I thought I'd use it in a ton of projects and so far I haven't at ALL.

IanHubert

Aha!! It's possible!! Whereabouts did you used to live in WA?

IanHubert

We've done a bit, yeah!!! Man that was actually my big thing when moving here, "we could have a MINIATURE room!" I haven't had any reason to do miniatures yet... but gosh darn I'm waiting. Or stopmotion. Just give me an excuse, haha

Erich Stenzel

Thanks for the tour Ian! Lots of cool spaces and places! Definitely looks future proof! Makes me happy I can contribute in my little patreon way!

Sean O'Skea

Chehalis and Olympia. And my wife is from Elma right next door to the Satsop Plant you visited a while back. Thanks for all your great content.

Neil Warburton

You should totally drop a floodlight down the big hole with a motion sensor at ground level. Imagine that blasting out if you were creeping about in the trees!

Colin Stein

My girlfriend said the same thing! Came here to see if anyone else is asking for a clearer picture of the sign.

Colin Stein

Please put up a clearer picture of the Chinese sign! I'm super interested in it now!

Phillip Park

looks awsome! Thanks for sharing the BTS!

Seth Rutledge

Dude, I so want to work with you on something at some point....Vancouver's not that far away...

Seth Rutledge

Well, once the border opens back up anyway :(

Destrier

Gotta love the notion of new miracles spawning from an old church:)

Doug Brown

I was expecting a Blair Witch-type adventure there for a second...

Kai Christensen

I JUST DID MY FIRST EVER CAMERA SOLVE WITH VIEWPORT COMPOSITING (using the uv project modifier) AND WOW THANK YOU SO MUCH I'M FREAKING OUT WITH HOW WELL IT WORKED.

Kai Christensen

I'm gonna build a proper green screen studio in my friend's barn pretty soon thanks to all this, too. So many possibilities I had no idea existed until I joined this Patreon!

又瑋 施

I can read chinese but that didn't look like common chinese.

IanHubert

AHHH!!! That's awesome!! Man yeah a good camera solve makes everything like magic. And cool!!! Good luck with the green screen studio! That's crazy exciting :D

IanHubert

Hey yeah!!! We should do a thing once it's safe!!! Dang that sounds fun.

George

you have your own skywalker ranch! are you planning to fill it with VFX artists for your projects?

ken yu

龍飛鳳舞《-----top 4 meaning "Flamboyant" adjective of a person or their behavior) tending to attract attention because of their exuberance, confidence, and stylishness.

花开富贵《----bottom 4 meaning “blooming rich"

Frank Frohnhoefer

You are living the life! I am happy I am able to support you a little bit.

Michael Savidge

😯 Dude!! I am beyond jealous, your place is full of creative inspiration

Tyler Adams

Prob not a hot take - Am I the millionth person to say you look like a young Danny Elfman?

Tyler Adams

I love your space. That is a total dream setup. Thanks for sharing!

IanHubert

Me? Gosh darn, I try not to be.

Dylan Wainwright

What a great space both inside and out. I love that it's outside of town and you have some nature. That exterior 'walkway' is interesting. Feels like that could be incorporated into some kind of set too. Thanks for sharing!

Anonymous

Man I spit my wine out when I saw the noose lmao

DECODED

The walkway could definitely be used to shoot something!

DECODED

This was like the weirdest episode of MTV Cribs.

I know what the Chinese heavy metal label said: 鳳 (Phoenix) 龍 (Dragon) 舞 (Dancing) 飛 (Flying) --------------------------- 富 (Rich) 花 (Flower) 貴 (High Rank) 開 (Blooming)
