A longer-form deal, for folks who enjoy those! And we only get a *little* bit bogged down in cloth sims. I have a scene with a lot of boats coming up- time to start modeling them.

I'm really into playing with translucent materials, lately. They're not that intense from a rendering perspective, and they can add so much life to a scene.

Here's the Randomness Generator tutorial I talked about in the video- I think it's a good one!

I'm a big fan of the modeling/problem solving videos, happy to get another one!

Willis

Best type of vid, and release the other video you mentioned at the start

2late

This is amazing

kookie

Oh hell yeah, I know what I'm watching this evening. I love boats

Luka Hrgovic

YEA! don't overthink it, just release EVERYTHING! <3

Doug Brown

How would you stop the water from showing (intersecting) inside the boat..should you want an angle from above? Love these modelling vids. Thanks so much Ian!!

Steodee

That shot inside the taxi looks great

redishere

My favorite kind of video! So useful and fun

Al

you dropped the 'stache! :D

Wolfers

Woo! another banger tutorial! I love your stuff~

George Moise

Release that other plastic tutorial! Please!

Chris Fast

Awesome boat Ian! This was lovely to watch. I like these videos of you solving design problems on the fly. If you're interested, it's really handy setting up hotkeys on ctrl+R and ctrl+B for colour ramp and bump map respectively. There's nothing else mapped to them in the shader editor (I don't think anyway) and it's super handy for quickly setting up your standard photo shaders.

Krum

Please make more of these kinds of videos ! It’s so interesting to see your work flow and how you solve problems you have. Thanks for everything you do Ian !

IanHubert

AH! I love that tip! Wait can you set up specific hot keys to generate specific nodes??

Chris Fast

Yes, you can! Just right click on the node in the add menu and there's an assign shortcut button in there somewhere. (Also, it might've been shift+R/shift+B that I do, not ctrl... obv you can set it to whatever you want though)

Philip Boyes

Adding to the people asking for the other tutorial(s)! Even if there's no new information there, they're great for inspiration and motivation, and for having on in the background while I'm working.

Fluctoso

Just a detail, but maybe you'll find it inspiring... The scene with backrooms-like-red-carpety-huge-ass-room-with-columns- unless it happens in some alternative universe, building like that would take LOTS of concrete to hide planet's curvature. E.g. ground "drops" like 1.7m after 5 clicks away on an average sphere of earth's radius.

Jasper Bodag

Hey Ian, i have a question, in the shot, were the Phaeton collids with the astroids, how did you got all the smal debris and make them act like debris? I really like your work,-

Lara Lynx

And if you don't want more hot key you can add nodes to the Q menu. I have all the ones I use the most in there.

lira

you are my god!

Nathan K

lets see them awnings!

MZZD

You're a god in my heart forever. In Chinese, "ian is nb"

It's been a while since I've seen the videos on the channel, but this was a great reminder that something complex can be reduced to simpler forms. Out of curiosity, why are you using a volume scatter node, and when do you decide to use that vs say a Principled Volume BSDF or an emission node?

clipstudiopaint1792

I must've spent an hour on the top railing cloth simulation trying to recreate this with the sewing. I increased the railing/skin size , changed the position of the extruded vertices (sewing) , everything . It's so finicky it's crazy!

clipstudiopaint1792

Also is there anyway you can upload that cool yellow tarp image texture you used or link it! Way too good.

David Lawrence

Did you ever post the scene you were working on with "scene with a lot of boats"?
