There is no real answer but direct viewer support.

We can hope, and try to influence, that YouTube will become more sane, but I do not think that is a likely scenario.

I don't really watch a lot of other content, mostly due to time, but Skallagrim really does a good job of being calm and discussing the problem rationally.

The viewers (true customers) seem to mostly refuse to move and thus YouTube has all the power they want. As I stated in the Fahrenheit 451 video - content creators have to decentralize, but it's up to the viewers to shift the power paradigm.

Decentralizing is only possible with direct viewer support as the other delivery networks do not have the a viable monetization mechanism either because they don't have one at all or the numbers aren't there to make up the sufficient revenue views lost when leaving YouTube.

So, in that regard, I want to again thank all of you for your support.  You're empowering InRange to do the "right things" in regards to decentralization and to take the high ground in this digital culture war.

Thank you.  Sincerely.

Karl

Thegn Thrand's Channel Terminated - Who's Next?

https://www.change.org/p/google-inc-reinstate-the-thegnthrand-youtube-channel It's astonishing how unfairly Youtube treats people these days who have contributed so much to it becoming the largest video platform. Here is where I upload what Youtube doesn't like: https://vid.me/Skallagrim_Redbeard Stay up to date in case this happens to me as well: https://www.facebook.com/SkallagrimYT https://twitter.com/_Skallagrim_ If you want to help keep the channel going: http://www.patreon.com/skallagrim If you're thinking about joining a channel network for more support than what Youtube currently offers: https://fullscreenmedia.co/creators/?ref=skallagrimnilsson ******************************************************************************** My second channel (for gaming, rants, vlogs, etc): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCf6CpA3RvKibY4fMQ60SyoA My favorite online store for buying swords (worldwide shipping): http://ww4.aitsafe.com/go.htm?go=kultofathena.com&afid=28632&tm=14&im=1 Channel-related shirts and other merch: https://teespring.com/stores/skallagrim http://skallagrim.spreadshirt.com/ Some recommended knife makers on Amazon: http://amzn.to/1qjwMNL

YouTube is really grinding my gears lately. The viewer community at large needs to be shown how bad they've gotten and be willing to move to competitors to force their hand.

James Ludovici

Going to be honest here, the only reasons I use YouTube are that it streams straight to my smart TV, and that the other content creators I watch a lot of are only on YouTube.

This crap makes my heart hurt. I cannot understand the motivation behind this. I rationally know why, but that intellectual idea dies so fast in the fires of anger. This is like wrongfully terminating someone's employment. Just out of greed or spite. And knowing how that feels colors all of my judgment.

christopher

Good stuff, I guess we need to start fighting the good fight on vidme

Timothy S Hennessey

Skalligrim is one creator I subscribe to and I watched his video today. What YouTube is doing is truly contemptible.

I am also totally confused by the shear number of people that steadfastly refuse to migrate from a particular platform to another. It is literally a single button click and they can't be bothered.

Jasper Welsch

Thank you, for two thing. First, thanks for this new channel. He seems very interesting. Second, thanks for all that you and Ian DO. I don't see how you have time. I also admire your patience to put up with this kind of crap.

Tyler Miller

I watch ThegnThrand's videos from time to time. Sometimes he does things that many might consider a little unsafe, and his zombie head targets could be a little gruesome, but I certainly never saw anything that would warrant shutting down his channel.

David Michael L Knobel

I follow many sword and Medieval related channels, When i heard of this I was thinking Inrange is way ahead in acknowledging the situation XD

David Michael L Knobel

Apparently he had an ancient japanese bomb video years ago that got flagged as terroist related, so his channel got shutdown.

I am still mystified as to why everyone keeps giving Youtube/Google the benefit of the doubt, here. Youtube has never once finished a year in the black and it never will. This is happening because at the end of 2016 Google figured out that it had just lost IIRC in the billions of dollars that year on Youtube to provide the populist right a platform to take over much as happened in the 1980's with AM radio after the end of the Fairness Doctrine. Google doesn't care if gun channels and the like are big draws when it is losing money to promote it's own enemies. NOBODY would continue to do that indefinitely. What's coming is a slow steady purge of Youtube that will result in all the gun/blade channels gone and the the only allowable politics being that 3x5 card of allowable opinion where Hillary is on the left and Mitt Romney is on the right, and anyone that strays outside of that will be gone. Anyone that challenges the paying old media channels in their move to the the platform will be gone. Notice you can find CNN, MSNBC and FOX News on Youtube now.

Brandon

...then unfortunately you don't understand what's going on and/or human psychology in general. Skallagrim hit it right on the head, here, and I'm not even one of his subs.

1984, Google now controls what is and is not approved speech/content.

What’s the big hurdle of switching to full30, I feel that’s the best chance we have.

Richard Fejdasz

I was just coming over to check if you guys were up on this. Good to see Karl hitting the bricks.

Jason

I checked, and If there was one other interesting video creater on those two channels, I'd switch.

I've come up with a solution for me that allows me to continue to watch videos on the big screen TV, pull content from just about any source from which 4V Video Downloader can pull content and doesn't provide YouTube with any support for the stuff I'm stuck pulling from them. I've set up a Plex server on one of my linux systems and watch on my Roku via the Plex plugin. Not ideal, as I have to do some gymnastics to get everything onto the server, but the best I could come up with at the moment.

Skall makes some great content - Someday when I can expand the number or channels I support, he will be on the short list ... For now, all I can do monetarily is Forgotten Weapons, InRange, and one other gun channel.... I suppose the only other thing I can do is stop trafficking on YouTube - I do watch Full30, but it looks like I'm going to have to switch to VidMe

Bruce Brodnax

Full30 has had some growing pains [not handling longer videos well, sucktastic comments editor, etc.] and is still by invitation only, I believe. They have to balance content delivery against their advertiser base [which is pretty darn narrow: there's what, 3 or 4 advertisers' vids in rotation?]

thormusique

I think it's great that you guys have been proactively working to use alternative means to get out your content. I agree that this latest censorship is a horrible move on Google's part, but it would be a mistake to assume their goal is actually to give everyone a voice. So we all need to assiduously work to create an open video-posting environment, whether it's through BitChute or whatever. I realise that the monetization issue is considerable for some content providers, but I love the fact that you guys are now doing more regarding merchandising (e.g. T-shirts). I for one would be happy if all my favourite content providers were to end up on BitChute, say, and I could say good-bye to YuckTube forever.

PHP

Karl, you watch Skall? Anyway, I heard of ThenThrand's termination thanks to ScholaGladiatora (awesome swords channel) and I have already signed the petition. With InRange and many of the sword channels I like going to Vidme, I'm starting to use that page now. I think creators should encourage people to move to Vidme by uploading there a bit earlier, making small low-effort exclusive videos and stuff like that.

Bill Smithem

Yeah. I'd been using VideoDownloadProfessional in Chrome and VideoDownloadHelper in Firefox to download single videos for a while, but I had to load the page with the video on it to be able to download. 4KVDL will download a single video from a link or you can give it the link to playlist and it'll download everything in the list in one shot. Having some issues with the subscription feature on linux, but they're claiming it'll be fixed in the next release. It generally does a decent job of figuring out the name of the video, but totally screws up on full30.com.

Adblockers on and support via Patreon. Starve the liberal groups of the creators' money.

Thought Police! are just too large at the present. I'm migrating from the Big Box social media. YouTube, Instagram, FB, are large. Finally broke my addiction though. Just waiting for more platforms.

Don Stanfield

If we can get some "Content Provided By... " advertising. Have to plow through the SJW blockades.
