Patriot Ordinance Factory (P.O.F.) has a BCG with a machined in gas key. Also has a few other small improvements that seem pretty solid. MSRP is $275.

Karl, I know you said in the videos that you make it down to Louisiana a lot and I don't know if you're ever in the Lafayette area but if you ever are and want a free lunch let me know because I'd be more than happy to sit down with you and buy you lunch.

jesse

There is a range in the LA Kalifornia area that has apparently turned down Asian foreign nationals. This is second hand through a Facebook review. The customer who was hosting them was pretty pissed off.

Michael Smith

Karl, I'm in the New Orleans metro area. I'd also spring for lunch or attend a meet-n-greet if your open to one in Louisiana. Also happy to provide you with a private shooting spot about 70 minutes north of the city if you ever need to do some shooting down here.

Andrew Drust

Fantastic! I'm looking forward to a lot of content in here, as I do with all InRange subjects. You guys are phenomenal, keep it up!

Christopher Ford

That's a really good point about grappling arts being the only relevant martial arts if a gun/knife is involved.

[1] WRT Itchy Dragon's carry handle Q: there are FAL-type Pic-rail mounted carry handles out there, if you really want to have a carry handle on your A3/4 type upper.[ 2] Joe's Q: WRT an integrated gas key, the very simple reason that they didn't do that in the original design engineering is the VASTLY greater complexity & cost of doing so. Let's not forget, "computerized machining" at that time meant paper tapes running your lathe or mill, & there wasn't ANYTHING even DREAMT of like today's 5-axis machining centers. Can it be done now? Yes, but it's still going to be impractical since the economies of scale are already working in the favor of 50 years of doing it the same old way with everything figured out & honed to fine detail, vs. the new method of scrapping the entire bolt because there's some stupid !@#$!@ flaw in the gas key portion. [3] WRT the Great Drum Mag Debate: since here in the PRK all detachable mags semi-auto shotguns are verboten, having a fixed 10rd drum is a big space saver and could be made in such a way to facilitate reloading the mag in place [which I don't see practical possibilities for in a box mag configuration for 12ga: those suckers are too darn long to begin with!] [4] At ~ the 21:00 minute mark wrt to "Gucci" gun parts: buy once, cry once. If the part is worth the money (as opposed to paying for a brand name part that does nothing better than the generic one) then IT IS WORTH THE $$. I'm following the WWSD project on my own as funds allow. No CF MLok HG for me, but I found a CF multi-rail handguard for the same price as an alloy one on sale, so that's what I got. The nicest aspect of the AR-15 "Erector set rifle" is you can do the 80/20 rule (80% of the functionality will be 20% of the effort/cost) and get most of the way there, and then incrementally upgrade as funds materialize to get the rest of the way. [5] WRT the muzzle device issue: since I reside behind the Granola Curtain where flash hiders on semi-autos are evil-ugly-bad & therefore felonious, a linear comp gives me what *I'm* looking for wrt to barrel dongles, that being projecting muzzle blast *forward* while delivering at least some (admittedly minor) recoil/muzzle rise mitigation. [6] Ammo argument: please refer to Tony G. Williams' web site http://www.quarryhs.co.uk/ about the studies wrt a GPC [general purpose cartridge] and try to remember that until the govt. adopts it, the ammo costs are going to be too high to make the market change [ie, stop trying to hold the tide back with a broom.] But my opinion is that the data exists to show that we shouldn't be using a caliber smaller than .25", and we could make a giant leap forward by turning the clock back 80 years to the .25 Remington [only loading it to 6.8SPC (ie, modern) pressure levels.] [7] Grail gun: can you please ENUNCIATE? Sounded like you said "Pecan" Southern-style ["pee-can"] but what is that? More elaboration with maybe a portion of "talk INTO the microphone!" please... ;-) [8] @ 1:06:30: what you guys are discussing is known as "opportunity cost." [9] WRT firearms ownership, you need to be a U.S. citizen or hold a green card. Or so my green-card [which last I heard was pink?] -carrying friends tell me...

Michael Batza

If you like Alton Brown you might be a nerd, I speak from experience. Love your videos keep doing what you do!

Reverend Charles

WWSD needs underbarrel attachments - grenade launchers, shotguns, etc. ;)

Bruce Brodnax

All of which go completely against the grain of the premise of the project, ie: "lighter, faster, more reliable." And have restricted practicality and legality. So, no, not part of WWSD. Not to say "Never on InRange!" because, after all, part of what we [ok, I] expect from IRtv is to explore the gamut of the shooting sports spectrum and analyze it as to how it applies to the individual shooter's needs. :-D

Chris burkett

I bought one there this spring. Good price, no complaints. (It's still sitting in the box, though.)

Knathaniel C

First time I have a major complaint with inrange and of course it is theology! Lucifer and Jesus didn't get together to pull the strings, already humans did way much of that, and then blamed Lucifer and/or said Jesus told them to. Get it right guys, Arrg! I Jest, but I really enjoyed this Q&A. Also the true crime was not making a pun, and calling yourself "Lucifire"

PL

Re AWESOME T-SHIRTS: Kronstadt Sailor. I'd buy one of one of them in a flash so fast my trousers would fall down. Ta
