Patreon heard your comments and the CEO has responded - they're rolling back the change.

We messed up. We're sorry, and we're not rolling out the fees change. - The Patreon Blog

Creators and Patrons, We've heard you loud and clear. We're not going to rollout the changes to our payments system that we announced last week.

Well that went over about as well as new coke.

Bryan J Folds

Thank goodness that they're listening to their constituents. This is a good move on a bad decision and noble of them to have the guts to turn when they were heading the wrong way.

Jan Heidal

Kudos to them for owning up to it.

Daniel Svensson

Great, I'm happy to hear that.:D If it didn't stay as it was I'd have to stop supporting a few creators and I'd hate that. Glad that they decided against the change.:D

Teddy

In this age of refusing to admit wrongdoing, it's refreshing for Patreon to so cleanly and openly own up to having made a bad decision. I'm sad that this is such a rare occurrence as to merit surprise on my part.

Justin A

Wow, this is a totally non-YouTube move. Thanks for listening Patreon

Lurker45

"Cancelling" the change rather than rolling it back. It wasn't even supposed to go active until the 18th.

Bill Smithem

Yeah, got their oops message, but they're still considering changing the way things work. We shall see what they come up with.

Joe Peacock

I could see them having a $1.50 minimum instead of $1.00.

Stephen Hall

I still think Patreon should be decentralized

Jeff Bruce

I'm back with an increased pledge.

Reverend Charles

I really like how they recognize they stepped in between patrons and creators and screwed up the relationship in many cases. Good they recognize this. Let us know if you need us to send any feedback in the future. I used that link you provided last time to tell them what I thought. They seem to have heard the message I sent.

I'm glad the fee change has been stopped. I would like to thing that the creators that rallied the patrons to intercede had an effect. On a totally different note, is anyone else a little concerned about the department called, "the Community Happiness Team"? I just think it has way too Orwellian a ring to it to be dismissed easily. Just food for thought, it certainly has me thinking.

Stephen Hall

Idk, Karl has had a pretty big impact on my way of thinking and philosophical beliefs. I think there should be multiple different funding mediums

Jasper Welsch

I did not do the calculations on what the difference would be. But i was perfectly willing to support my creators directly thru PayPal or other means and cut out Patreon all together. It might not be as convenient, but still easy. I doubt I was alone.

Bruce Stein

Sadly, everything costs money. The reality is, who pays for it? It seems that most creators are willing to suck up the costs of Patreon as a "cost of doing business," paying for the service Patreon provides them. This makes sense to me as they are in the best position to balance their income against their costs, and make rational decisions about how they spend that income. Kudos to Patreon for admitting they made a mistake.

Simon W S

Glad to be of service.

InRange TV

The creators will take the charges instead, I suspect. ~K

It's kinda amusing how they touted the changes were based on what the creators overwhelmingly wanted, and how they got very supportive feedback from almost everyone - right up until they folded the changes. to their credit, they did reply to the feedback I sent them, so as to know there was a chance someone added it to the pile.

BrianP

As Mac said over on the Military Arms Channel, the 10% Patreon takes in total is much better than the 45% YouTube takes of the ad revenue.

Player Review

Glad that happened. I'll maintain my pledges.

Danny Hanny

Thanks for directing us to contact them.

Candice C Voets

Really happy that Patreon listened to everyone's feedback. Being stuck on disability at the moment I generally only have around 5$ left over at the end of the month when I'm finished paying bills and right now 1$ goes to InRange, 1$ goes to Forgotten Weapons and the other 3$ goes to a box or two or .22LR so I can still go shooting. I was pretty bummed about the changes but I figured I was probably alone in that and hadn't voiced my dismay until Karl's first post on the issue.

Bruce Brodnax

Worse, actually: Coke kept trying to push their version of Pepsi for over a year, iirc...

Bruce Brodnax

Nah, the $1 minimum should stay, they just need to get real about how they process their payments. CC fees on a $1 charge are < $0.07 iirc my ex-gf's breakdown [she used to rep CC processing for Wells...]

Bruce Brodnax

I think it came down to Patreon realizing "Uh oh, we're going to kill the golden goose: the supporters *do* have other alternatives to funding their content creators and they're willing to use them if we push this through!"

Tony Barton

Well, Happy Frickin New Year!
