Hi guys! Karl and I are planning to do our first Q&A video in about a week, and we need some questions to answer! So...what would you like to heard us speak about? Guns, history, competition shooting, tactics, you name it. Please reply here with any you would like to see addressed. Thanks!

I was having a discussion today about the SAFE/FIRE markings on the right side of most AR15s these days. I think it is unnecessary and a little silly. Left handed shooters were brought up. I pointed out that WW2 was won with soldiers toting M1s that didn't say SAFE/FIRE and most of them managed not to shoot each other. What is your opinion as both rightie and leftie and how common has it been through history to have the safety marked?

I've been digging around and I have a question about the PK/PKM firing cycle that I can't find the answer to. Since the weapon fires from the open bolt and pulls rounds out the back of the belt, where does the 'ready to fire' round sit? I would assume on the bolt face or the cartridge extractor. Is there any way you can demo this? As a corollary, what is the clearing procedure? I would assume there is an additional step over something like an FN MAG.

I would like to hear your thoughts on bullpups...the IWI Tavor specifically. Give us some history and use in a two gun match etc...maybe a torture test down the road. From what I gather it is the one of the only successful bullpups in military service. Since Israel uses it testing in sand and close quarters would also be a plus.

Long ago when I was a kid I remember some of the books at my library on weapons said that modern historical opinion suggests that black powder was invented independent from China in Europe. Which I found strange because my history textbook said the recipe for gunpowder traveled from China through the silk road. I haven't seen anything contesting that veiw recently and I'd like to hear your opinion. What's the true origin of black powder in Europe?

Alex Forney

I honestly would like to hear how you both got into firearms. What was it that drew you into the sport/hobby and what are some ideas from the past that you would like to see make a resurgence in today's firearms and gear?

More things on the Leader T2! I really wish someone would do an updated version of the Leader, I love all the features of the gun and wish someone would make a Leader upper to put on an AR lower. Then you could get a folding stock and be rid of the AR buffer system! I saw the video on Forgotten Weapons about the horribly done half AR 180 half AR, something along those lines would be amazing except for the pain to clean AR bolt face.

I would like to hear your opinions on whether affordable surplus rifles (SKS, Mosin Nagant, Mas, ect, ect) are viable fighting guns or not. If so, how would your tactics using these weapons for self defense differ from modern defensive rifles?

Mark

What's the news on the tactical FG42? also What is in each of your opinions the most underrated fighting force of the 20th century, a group that was very effective and perhaps had tactics ahead of its time that just didn't get enough credit?

A couple thoughts. 1) Optics discussion/Parallax discussion: I love the magnified optics (ACOG x3 for 7.62x39) for example. But target acquisition is an issue at close range and I don't like "parallax free" optics at longer distances, so I operate a micro red dot at 45 deg on the front rail. Other than using irons, can you discuss what you guys like/do? The new Trijicon MR site with a wide view seams interesting. 2) Another topic I am interested in is Gun weights. What is a reasonable weight for a rifle that might be used in combat? What is the average weight of military carbines? Certainly some of the older guns you guys operate get a bit heavy, esp. compared to the 3Gun AR carbon fiber queens I am seeing at events. maybe you could discuss what guns have weighed, and what the range is for weight of different country firearms in the modern era. Talking about carbines here not squad machine guns. 3) Finally: I am a bit of a combloc gun junkie and I love my Samopal Vzor58 - 11 in my collection of different variants. The Czechs have a long proud history of firearm development and they have been criticized lately because unlike countries the Russians AK-47/74 and the US M16/M4, they did not take the "VZ.52/VZ.58" forward on a development path but instead abandoned it completely for the new design of the Bren 805 (SCAR like carbine). They certainly could have NATOized it (5.56 chambered versions are manufactured today) and modernized it (top and front rail, ambi-saftey, tactical bolt release, adjustable stock, etc.) There were even some cool vz.58 prototypes. Can you talk to the firearm development/adoption progression that other countries have followed from just after WWII (no need to get back to trench warfare rifles) to the present day?

Action match test: sturmgewehr vs gewehr 43. How much of an advantage is the lighter, more portable, lower recoil, and higher mag capacity?

With multi-lug rotating bolt designs being so common in modern firearms, what are your thoughts on something like a tilting bolt or roller lock design? Are they relics of the past or could they still offer advantages for a modern rifle?

Paul Strealer

I've seen side focus scopes used on air rifles, wherein the shooter uses the focus and a large, marked wheel, to determine the range to the target rather than using a rangefinding reticle (adjust until you're in focus, that gives you your range). Just how effective is this, and would it carry over to regular firearms when shot at long range?

Paul Kerns

I think it would be neat to hear the history of the 5.45x39 cartridge, but switching to something more modern I would like to hear what you guys consider (professionally and personally) the proper roll for handguns. When I was in the Army there was an even split on the philosophy of use. Half considered it a final, desperate attempt to survive while the other half considered them vital for clearing smaller houses, rooms, and vehicles. Love InRange and what you both do, keep up the awesome work!

See All Open Sight! Please do a kinda review on this. Would really like to know what you guys think of it and also how it works. I might put one on my AR. Thanks.

Comrade Crozier

Has running very old guns in these 2-gun and similar matches given you a bit of insight into the difference in tactics between then and now?

Cade Rarick

Couple of questions for you guys. 1: Since the two of you shoot matches with such a variety of guns and have used a fairly wide variety of web gear do you have any thoughts on which country's gear during the major wars of the 20th century was the most user friendly? 2: What do you think will be the next "quantum leap" in small arms technology? Finally getting the issues with caseless ammo ironed out? Energy weapons?

Ian-Great job running the SMLE left handed! Any chance in future videos that you could add tips about shooting older firearms left handed? As a follow lefty, I've found some are surprisingly lefty-friendly and some aren't. Karl & Ian-Great job on everything, seeing these firearms in action is inspiring. Thanks, Mike Freehling (Frühling to all you Sturmtruppen) :-)
