After eyeing it for a long, long time I decided to test out Clip Studio Paint EX. I've had my eyes on it due to the multiple comic page options.

I absolutely love Procreate, but there are some functions like this that sound like it would make things a lot lot smoother.

My conclusion after one day of trying to understand the program in itself and one day of drawing is: it's so so SOOOO slow. Oh my god is it slow. Not necessarily because of the lag (which is horrendous when using very large brushes - could be my iPad which is a bit older though) but because I hape to actively click/check and uncheck so many times, which I didn't have to do in Procreate.

A lot is probably just the steep learning curve and I assume it'll get better once I also understand customization better (which supposedly is a big plus for CSP). But goddammit, I feel like I'm only clicking around and not drawing as much - like it's interrupting the drawing process and creative flow because I have to click on all these buttons. It feels just so clunky.

Frustration from the above aside, it was still fun and interesting in the end. I only ended up doodling an OC for artfight for a friend, but I definitely want to test out more and see how it could be something for me in the long run. But I don't see myself giving up Procreate in the near future.

Hope you're all having a great week so far! I might stick to irregular posts this month still, especially with Artfight and testing out CSP.

I am also digging my heels in when it comes to learning CSP, coming from 4 years of using procreate. The learning curve is...a lot, but the allure of the brush library is what caught my eye. My only gripe with CSP is none of the buttons are named/labeled on my iPad, so half the time I dont know what does what. Maybe I need to watch a YouTube walk through? 😅

I heard good things about the brushes as well. No idea where to get them though haha. But for me it was really the comic pages because I'd love to draw more of them. And also use it for the tarot!
