🎴III - the Empress: Glaurica (TLT Tarot) // Concept Art (Patreon)

The Empress Tarot is the Major Arcana card of femininity and motherhood. It is also one of the strongest pregnancy cards in the Tarot deck. (...) The Empress encourages you to build on your communication with your children and show them your nurturing side. Even if you are not a parent, when The Empress appears the message is the same, you should embrace your softer side, allow yourself to explore the emotions you are feeling and listen to your intuition. The empress always focuses a lot on motherhood. But... how many loving mothers are there even in the series??? Besides Glaurica, Pyrrha would fit this card, but I'm already having a familial piece in mind for the 3 of cups with her. So, ultimately I chose Glaurica. I thought the scene where Harrow reads the letter from the Emperor and Glaurica starts crying about her son is a good fit for this card!

Ortus ended up looking a bit derpy so I'll have to adjust his face for the final card lol.

As usual some different cards and then poses etc. I knew I wanted Ortus to be in the card because Glaurica doesn't have any special characteristics that make her stand out.

Sketches & WIP

Some rough ideas for the card. One was very similar to the Rider Waite Card (even though there is no throne) and one more intimate with Glaurica embracing Ortus (the middle sketch). But I thought the middle card puts too much focus on Ortus and his pain, when I wanted to put Glaurica into focus. So even though I like the middle sketch more in terms of how dynamic it is, I found the traditional sketch a better fit for the card.

When I first finished this card, I tested out a new brush and coloration. I really REALLY disliked how it turned out so I ended up doing the linework and the colors again. I also think it reads better with Harrow and the additional details.

I really like that pink is the dominant color for this card <3 A small easter egg is Gideon sleeping in the background. The other people will include the skeletons and at least the two other aunts/sisters.

As always, the art is also in the Discord server and the cloud! <3

I hope you enjoy! I'll put up a poll again for the next cards!

Cheers <3
