I can’t believe it’s been 25 yrs since Lil Big Dick sprang fully developed from my feverish brain. Some characters take forever to figure out who they are and others come together in a thought. Lil Big Dick was like that.

I think I’d been doing Boo comics for GBM msg for a couple years while self -publishing my erotic chap books (xeroxed fanzines, which were big in the 90’s). If memory serves, I wanted something new to sell at an upcoming Black Gay Pride event the summer of ‘98, possibly in DC, Atlanta or Los Angeles, I don’t recall. Since Boo’s character was getting a nice response in the magazine, I figured I wanted to tie him into the story somehow yet not make it solely about him. I guess I wanted to start doing what is now an overused, annoying term I’ve grown to dislike: “world building”. I figured I’d give Boo a feisty best friend who could be the heat to Boo’s cool.

Conciously, i based him on the glyphs I remembered seeing on an ancient vase that was part of the Pompeii exhibit I saw in 5th grade. The glyphs were of these little people with huuuuuge dicks. Clearly it made an impression on me.

Subconsciously, i based his attitude on a model friend of mine who used to pose for me in my Chicago days. He was sweetheart but don’t get on his bad side or there’d be hell to pay. I based his physical appearance (apart from the huge dick) on a very cute and somewhat diminutive dude I was dating a year earlier.

This story was conceived and drawn very quickly to be able to get it printed in time for the pride fest. This meant I drew it  without using roughs and at the exact size it was to be printed. Usually I drew my art larger then reduced it for printing. All that is to say that the art in this story had a grittier quality than most of my work. Anyway, it got done in time and sold very well at the event as I recall. A couple years later it was included in my 2000 anthology, Brothers of New Essex, where I’m sure it was seen by many more people. Some of you patrons, possibly.

Anyway, enjoy this trip down memory lane (for some of you) with an early Belasco story, now painted up like a hussy for a new generation! (Though this cover is still black n white for now!)

How will this one run? One page every other day again? Just curious... 😊

Belasco

This one, since it’s an older story that’s been colorized, will run every day for the rest of August starting tomorrow which will give me time to put the finishing touches on the Farmer Goodseed story and begin another one. 🙂
