Just sharing this experiment I made.

Decided to convert an old Arnold scene I made a while back when I was testing out the new Maya Xgen Interactive tools that came out earlier this year.  Since Redshift still doesn’t support the new Xgen tools I decided to look into how to convert it into something Redshift can use. After converting to old Redshift just applied an rsHair and rsHair Randomization + the rsMaterial for skin etc.

Turns out its A LOT easier than I expected all you make your groom with Xgen Interactive and once your happy with the results you just decrease the hair density 20%-50% based on Autodesks recommendations and export the groom as alembic splines. Then you re-import the groom using the Alembic importer. After that you select the same mesh you used to create the original Xgen Interactive sculpt on and create a regular Xgen original mode description that uses guides. Then under utilities you create a “curves to guides” and point it to the alembic curves you imported and then its ready to go in original old Xgen.

You do have to re-do some of the modifiers to the hair and increase density again but at least it works with Redshift this way. Hopefully Redshift supports Xgen Interactive soon.

If people want I can cover this in a future tutorial. Converting Xgen Interactive to Xgen Original + Skin shading with rsMaterial.
