Decided I needed a rock generating tool. Finishing up my new custom Houdini HDA node "RockGen" Takes in any input geometry and processes it. You can use low rez or high rez procedural modeling methods, adjust the parameters like noise, offsets etc and then finally polyreduce the asset by a percentage.

Left is high rez modeling method right is same asset but low rez modeling method. Rendered in Redshift with a simple rsMaterial + noise shader.

No, I'm still working on it. Debating whether to include a UV and displacement/normal baking setup also.

Thanks Peter. Built this actually to make a few rock assets and icebergs/ocean ice sheets to scatter for my island scene tutorial part 2 and figured I would develop it a bit further to also be able to make detailed meshes for any future purposes. I've been meaning to make a proper rock generator HDA but just never got around to it. I think it will make for an interesting bonus tutorial in the future covering how I made it.

Peter Paterson

Yeah. It would make a nice focus for a tutorial. There is the rock generation side, as well as making a Houdini asset side.

Cool Saul, I have a similar ICE compound for Softimage that I've used tons of times. If you can add a displacement/bake normals functionality that would... eh... rock :)

will you release it for patreons to tinker with?

Hi Saul, do you plan to explain this further?

Saul Espinosa

Yes I will likely make a bonus video eventually covering this HDA and sharing it after we finish the Island terrain tutorials.
