Hey everyone! This is part 1 of our Houdini 20 Cloud tools tutorial. In part 1 I will be going over the fundamentals. What are the new nodes and noise patterns? How they work, and what they are based on. The "concept" between these different noise types and how they combine to create different shapes and patterns typically found in clouds.

Once we understand how these VOPs function at a low level and the parameters they all share, it makes it easier to understand how they are working with more complex volumes. This will then transition to using these patterns to generate fast to render high altitude filler clouds for our scenes. In the next part, I will move on to the second layer of these new nodes which combine with the skybox SOP nodes.

I have attached my finished project below for users to follow along or break down on their own time to study how the final render was accomplished. These are very fun new nodes that I see myself using all the time. Thank you for all the support and have a wonderful week!

Thank you Saul! Amazing stuff as always - Aces in h20 was giving me a lot of headaches.. in the end I missed the part with resetting the camera parms (though I had to rebuild it, since the shelf button did nothing on my end)

Hey, i wanted to check out the projfiles u uploaded but when i extract with 7zip it gives me an error: unexpected end of data

Saul Espinosa

Hey Bob, you need to download all the zip files into a single directory, then only open the first archive and extract. It is a split 7zip archive so you only open the first one.

Bob Debouwer

OOO THANK YOU! works like a charm

Just a quick question - did anything change since RS 3.6.02? When I work with skyfields, nothing is showing in my renderview. Got material applied, light volume contribution, everything.

Justin Partridge

Same here. Nothing showing when I follow along and nothing showing in the example file for the 2d clouds.

Akcessible

Same I can't figure out how to display it, or they simply removed the option

Interesting, I just confirmed it is indeed no longer working. I will make a report for thebRedshift volume dev to look at. This worked before so in theory it should still work unless something broke it. Thanks.
