Rent: the writer Johnathan Lawson wrote this show based on his life & his friends trying to make it as artists in NYC. Many of the film’s actors played these roles when it opened on off-Broadway & were friends with Johnathan before he died. But the musical is also based on the Opera La Boheme. - What do you think of classic retellings like this? - If you were to write a musical about your life/ friend group, what older film or classic would you base it on? & What musical style?
