I am glad you did not bring it up with Roxy and Tara, it was them just reacting to the film, that would not have been an honest rreaction if they had that info. You did the right thing.

Adrianna Marie Aka AD

Maybe its me....but I absolutely don't think you needed to explain yourself Greg. I appreciate it but despite the directors conviction, his misdeeds shouldn't be the focus of the reaction. If people don't want to understand that, thats on them. I loved their reaction and I can't wait for part 2!!!

Richard The Magician

I just had to go to Google it. I never knew that this was an issue with the movie. I never heard of this director before. I did not recognize his name. I was just always a fan of this film. I think you made the right call. The unfortunate truth is that it's difficult to watch anything these days without some douchebag being attached to it either on screen or behind the camera. I would love you to watch a Kevin Smith movie. But then you'll have to talk about Harvey Weinstein. The pianist is a great movie. But then you have to talk about Roman Polanski. We can't even watch Ren and Stimpy anymore because that creator is also a pedo. Anyway, I'm glad that it was on your mind and that you at least making this video to acknowledge it. Keep up the good work.

Ana Karen

I honestly was hoping you didn’t show those questions cause it would’ve been uncomfortable place for them so I am glad you didn’t bring it up to them. Don’t feel bad you did the right thing

Jacxon Ryan

I will say the same thing I've been saying on this subject when it comes to people on the film side of things verses singers. With singers (Diddy/R.Kelly) it's very easy and simple to just disconnect from listening or supporting their music (because they are a SINGULAR entity) but when it comes to actors or directors in film/tv... I'm so sorry, but just like with Bill Cosby... I'm not going to make the ENTIRE CAST, Crew and several hundreds of people who made the movie (tv show) suffer for 1 person. Film & Tv are ENSEMBLE projects, no one does anything alone - so this attitude people take today on subjects like this I find absurd. Everyone should be able to separate individual actions from ensemble contributions.

M@xR3acts

You're a great guy, Greg! I am glad that the franchise shifted away from his involvement.

Eric R. Lane

I just think you should ask the hosts if they want to react from a certain person, and this is why. Then let them make their choice. It would be the same with asking them to react to a Woody Allen movie, or a Billl Cosby movie. I have not watched that film since I was made aware. And I never will. I also chose not to watch the reaction. Nothing against Roxy and Tara. And you should probably make your hosts aware of Brett Ratner's past too. Heck, even Bryan Singer. I guess the X Men franchise is really cursed with that. Seems like a strange bit of irony.

Zane Platt

A lot of people work on a film, not just the director. So completely ignoring certain films because of a single bad egg would be a mistake in my opinion because it means you are ignoring the hard work of hundreds

Jagger

Honestly Greg I think you did the right thing with Roxy & Tara. It’s a heavy thing to mention to anyone and sometimes it’s triggering. But we’re all human and some people wanna know about that kind of info. I completely understand though if the director’s heinous actions ruins a person’s view/experience of the films

Shara3784

Thank you for being transparent. Anyone who know you guys knows that you had no ill intent. The problem is that not everyone knows you. For the future it should be fine to just put in a short disclaimer/pinned comment addressing it so that people don't assume the worst.

Toasty Overlord

Curious if you have now told them and if so, will they watch 2, 3 and 4 (although 4 is a different director/reboot as far as I know) or will you wait until the first 3 have been watched. (I don't what involvement if any in the 4th).

Lauren B

Thank you so much for this explanation. Honestly, I would not want you to throw that on them without warning but agree that it would have likely impacted the way they experienced it and again likely become the main discussion afterwards. I think this was the correct call, genuinely. I’m a survivor and if someone dropped this on me without warning, let alone on camera, it would have been a hurtful rug-pull to say the least. And after all this time supporting the channel, I don’t read malice or ill-intent into the choices you make, nor do I assume you don’t care or want to sweep anything under the rug. I think you’ve earned that after so many years. Best practice might be something exactly like this either on the video (but I know YouTube might smite you for it) or in the description or pinned comment. All that to say, thank you for this acknowledgement and also for not tossing it on Roxy and Tara without warning. I think that says a lot about how much you care for their mental well-being.

Riley Petersen

I’ve always found it interesting how this movie seems to get blasted the most for having a director that turned out to be a real fuckin creep. So many great movies are tied to someone who’s done heinous shit in real life, and while thats awful and those people should be shunned and black listed, it’s ridiculous to think that the movie itself should be treated that way. So many people work their asses off to make movies and it’s disrespectful to the art and all of the artists who worked on it to brush it off because of one person. I respect that you decided to provide this context, but I personally don’t think it’s needed. You run a movie reaction channel and had your people react to a movie, simple as that.

Chris Retzlaff

So, Im assuming they didnt do Patreon questions for this one....??? Time and a place...Greg made the right call.....ask any question you want...and if its appropriate for the conversation or forum then it can get highlighted....if ots not then it wont.....People are smarter than this...right??? Silenced??? Its F'n Jeepers Creepers... cant wait till Michael comes out...🤣

TheADHDOverlord

I have been trying to figure out how to explain and word my own complex feelings on the subject of Art and Creator... because in the case of Movies & TV Shows, there are Literally Hundreds of Other People that Influenced and Made it happen... and they are being punished for the actions of 1 or a handful of them... I have been wrestling with this since Joss Whedon for myself. I grew up when he was considered one of the smartest writers in the business... but upon reflection with what we know now... you really MUST Question why he basically Tortured Strong Women in all of his Shows.... just things like that pop up. How much can we remove the "Creator" from all the stories inspired by their Creation? This is a much Broader Discussion. I can think of many examples now... and also keep in mind that Extremists are Louder and more Botted Up than Ever in their Online Exclusive Echo Chambers of Keyword Flags... gd the psychology around this is fascinating to me.

Kyle Southworth

The unfortunate truth is that Hollywood is filled with pedos and abusers. There are so many films and tv shows out there that have someone in the cast/crew that has been accused of or has actually abused others that if you were to refuse to react to anything involving an abuser it would be hard to find movies/shows to react to. Its really sad and a horrible thing to think about but unfortunately this is the world we live in..

Dustin Duvall

Hard agree with the decision. There are so many monsters in the world, including the producer who shall not be named, that sensitive topics would have to be addressed almost every movie. I won't speak for the rejects, but taking on the responsibility to talk about it every time it comes up would be a lot, and seems like an unfair pressure for an entertainment reaction channel.

MadLove

I haven't watched the Shejects reactions yet so I haven't seen the comments on the video nor did I read the comments on the questions post, but I appreciate this video. I often wonder how many reactors know the history prior to watching. I completely understand wanting a genuine reaction without certain information possibly clouding it, but do think it's important for it to be brought up. Personally, my biggest issue will always be the fact that he will continue to profit, in some way, off of these videos, and that's unfortunate.

MadLove

Only on the 4th film, though 😕

Christian Seibold

Appreciate the video, and your thoughts! Definitely understand not wanting Tara and Roxy's first time hearing about the whole ordeal being caught on camera like that. That makes a lot of sense. The art vs. artist thing is complicated. I guess my personal position is that older movies based on writers that we find out are terrible is fine to watch, especially to support a lot of the actors, or gain cultural context, but new content made from those writers/directors is not, because at that point, the crew are working with that person usually knowing at least somewhat what they've done and said. It's why I feel like I can watch the Harry Potter movies, which have a lot of ally actors in them and were a cultural phenomenon that I grew up with, and not watch the new Harry Potter TV Series. However, as for directors, personally, I cannot bear to think that a movie that I'm watching was the result of abuse of those actors during the filming process, which is an entirely personal thing. I just find it creepy to essentially watch the actors go through abuse on the screen like that, even if it's an undertone. But I do respect that other people have differing views on this. I think people tend to care more about and focus on directors and writers being awful over other people involved because the writer writes the outlook and narrative vibe of the story, and the director interacts with the actors to give expression to that written narrative. So the director has the most influence over the expression and interacts with the actors, and the writers have the most influence over the narrative and what the story is trying to say. For example, I'm not gonna watch a movie whose message it is to hate on gay people just because some crew members working on the movie are good people. The writers matter a whole lot more.

Christian Seibold

I understand this with actors, but I don't agree personally with directors, although I understand your position. If a director is abusive, then all the other people involved in the movie are *already* suffering given that the director interacts with all of the actors. And to be fair, I don't agree that people choosing to not watch a movie is making the cast suffer. Afaik, the cast gets paid a salary for their performance regardless of if the movie makes money or not. Movies and TV Shows are not entitled to viewers.

Jacxon Ryan

As an actor, I understand that about directors being abusive - but that's not what's going on with this case. And yes, take Phylicia Rashad from the Cosby Show for example (someone who was already wrongfully overlooked every awards cycle) now, has her entire amazing work history erased because no one wants to play the Cosby Show anymore. It doesn't stop with your initial payment. Actors are paid residuals for syndication in TV and in film. Phylicia Rashad, Tempest Bledsoe, Keesha Knight Pullum, Lisa Bonet, Malcolm Jamaal Warner's work has been erased for something 1 person did outside of the set that had nothing to do with The Cosby Show.

Chase Schleich

Addressing this topic on the video 100% would have steered the video in a different direction than originally intended and affected Tara and Roxy's first watch. Do people expect you to bring up the history of every horrible director/producer for any movie involving one? Do we need to discuss Harvey Weinstein any time you watch a Tarantino or Kevin Smith movie? What about a Kevin Spacey movie? Do we need to go over all of his offenses every time? Bret Ratner? Joss Whedon? Bryan Singer? If you had to discuss the crimes & accusations of someone involved with a film anytime one of those films is watched, half the discussions on this channel would be about sex crimes because Hollywood history is FILLED with horrible people in front of the camera, in the directors chair, and in the studios. Here's an idea. Let's just put an asterisk * next to the movie title any time anyone of merit involved with that film has been accused of a horrible crime and do a double asterisk if someone has been convicted of a horrible crime. That way we don't have to have a discussion about it, but everyone knows that everyone knows that a horrible person had some involvement in the film. Problem solved lol.

KaylaTheKing

Sorry to go off topic but I feel this needs to be said but this is what I love the most about this channel is how real you all are and that you keep us informed and actually pay attention to the questions and concerns of your audience and make the time in your (insanely) busy schedules to acknowledge it so it makes me feel like we are more than just "numbers" and makes me feel like we truly are valued members of your channel so thank you so much for your candor it's greatly appreciated ❤️

KaylaTheKing

Forgot to add the reason I'm not commenting anything about the controversies of the movie is because truthfully I literally JUST found out through the comments so I don't feel I am equipped yet in terms of knowledge on the situation to weigh in productively so I'm sorry if it seems like I'm glossing over it I'm still digesting what I just found out 😳

Kraackin

There reaction was horrible with out even knowing this. Split these 2 up that last while has not been good.

Malik Currie

I thought this was pretty obvious lol that would’ve absolutely ruined the viewing for them

K

Why are people so immature about separating people from the product and would rather tarnish a movie and its creators because a terrible turned out ro be associated with it. The guy is blacklisted and has no career after his past was discovered. We should still be able to enjoy the movie especially since we dont have to look at his face. It's like trying to watch a Kirk Douglas movie knowing he raped Natalie Wood as a teenager.

K

Exactly. This why even sane people think cancel culture has gone to far. Jeepers Creepers is 25 years old. Why do we need to relitigate it today. People who have been horrible in there private life have existed through the history of all entertainment.

george taylor

If those clowns were seriously worried about bad producers and actors, enjoying movies is gonna be real hard considering the vast amount of movies that had monsters attached to them in some way. Go find another hobby if yall are gonna be selective in what you cry about. This is why i try and stay away from Hollywood peoples personal lives because i just want to enjoy the content, not be wrapped up in a weird parasocial situation like the simpleton population likes to be. You can enjoy a movie without endorsing the worst person who touched it.

Marco Tunstill

I understand that some people don't want to watch something because someone problematic is associated with it; however, to disregard an entire work of art because one person was bad isn't fair to the hundreds of people who were involved and are innocent. Disregarding films because someone involved in some way was/is a terrible person is like throwing out the baby with the bathwater. On a personal level, the X-Men trilogy is one of my favorites. I know that Bryan Singer and Brett Ratner are bad people, but to disregard the work of all the writers, actors, producers, editors, cinematographers, extras, and so on would be ridiculous.

MarySoul

I appreciate the effort you put into building this community, and I want to acknowledge that—transparency and communication do matter, and I value both. That said, I didn’t watch the reaction. The theme isn’t my thing, and until now I had no real knowledge of the backstory, which I’ve only just learned about. It’s awful—truly awful. The question of separating art from artist, or product from producer, is a genuine conundrum. I’ve been plagued with it as figures I loved like Chopra or Chomsky, of whom I have books, and l’ve followed for ages are now basically dirt to me. What makes it even more complex is that we’re living in a moment where so many “gods” are falling from their pedestals so quickly. It inevitably raises the question: do we stay silent, or do we address it and openly negate everything that at some point gave us some type of joy? I don’t think you did anything wrong. If anything, perhaps in future cases like this, a brief disclaimer could help, I don’t know, —especially for reactions that might reasonably provoke this kind of outrage. I understand that doing so sets a precedent, but in this case, that precedent has already been set, which was generous of you. Something along the lines of: “We acknowledge and condemn the problematic nature of X; this reaction is produced solely for entertainment purposes.” Which probably should have been self explanatory to begin with given how consistently the people on the channel share their own values.. But I digress; At the end of the day, there is also personal responsibility involved, ours as consumers/viewers. As individuals, we retain the agency to decide whether to engage with the content—or not.

Christian Seibold

Just wanted to say that I found this comment extremely thoughtful and reflective. You don't dismiss the complexity and nuance of the question, which I really appreciate a lot, because in reality it *is* a complicated question. An artist gives a piece of themselves in their artwork, so when I've found out an artwork I love has embedded in it the pieces of an artist which has the capacity for hate and inhumanity, that *does* make me question the very message and viewpoint of the artwork! Things that have given me joy in the past are now marred with melancholy, becoming more bittersweet than anything. The artist and the art are not fully separable, and the viewpoint of the art is going to be influenced by the artist and their knowledge-base. This is why we can have artworks that are biased, *and* it's why we can have artworks that represent a particular experience very well. However, the art is not fully inseparable from the artist either. Viewers can hold multiple interpretations up to the viewpoint, and it can inspire things far beyond what the artist might have imagined. This seems paradoxical, but I truly believe both forces are at play in any given artwork: that the art has a viewpoint influenced by the artist, and that this viewpoint at least restricts or subtly guides the breadth of interpretations which spread out from it. Anyways, really liked your post. :)

Jay Rushton

Like okay no big deal to me of there. People noticed two books in the background thinking were now ready for Nolans movie there.

Gabriel

I honestly had no idea about the director’s past and what he did….

Kat M.

Same. Im just now learning about it. While I enjoy the art of the film, what the director was jailed for is too awful for me to continue watching the movie in the future.
