Marty Supreme - WATCH ALONG!!

Comments

Izana Geisler

Not based on a true story but loosely inspired by Marty Reisman (a ping pong player). And fun fact: Rockwell really was a vampire in an alternate ending so you can take his sentence as a true statement even if we never got to see that ending! The alternate was gonna have Rockwell appear behind Marty whilst he was old and with his granddaughter at a concert and then he bites him. It would’ve cut to black. All the prosthetics for old Marty were even made but never used.

Calling Marty Mauser an "awful person" has to be the most ragebait fake virtue signaling thing I've ever seen. I feel like people who say that have either never had an actual pursuit for something in their lives or are propping up themselves in an imaginary moral high horse with holier-than-thou sanctimonious performative activism. Andrew in particular just keeps calling Marty a bad person for EVERYTHING he did (or didn't do). Marty - "mom can you please don't leave dirty glasses in my room it attracts bugs" Andrew - "OMG WHAT AN AWFUL PERSON" *Marty catches his mom lying to him (as usual) trying to make her son quit his game* Andrew - "OMG THIS GUY IS AWFUL" *marty escapes from a controlling uncle who pays cops to arrest him* Andrew - "THIS GUY IS AWFUL" *every second of this film showing the audience how much ping pong means to marty mauser* Andrew - "THIS GUY DOESNT EVEN CARE ABOUT PING PONG" *marty Mauser continually being sabatoged by his foster mom from participating in a game that he loves* Andrew - "I DONT KNOW BUT THIS GUYS SUCKS" *marty mauser isn't jesus christ* Andrew - "HOW HORRIBLE IS THIS GUY"

I mean… he is an objectively bad person. He’s an interesting character to watch played brilliantly by Timothee, but this does not negate the fact that Marty is a hustler who takes advantage of those around him for his own personal gain!

What the hell is this comment Akash. You sound like straight up creep. Next time, keep your negative thoughts yourself and stop feeling so entitled to share your hate. Its weird af.

Ash

Kevin C How am I a creep? Do you know what creep means? I'm not supposed to have thoughts now because a random Kevin C deems it negative? "Feeling so entitled to share your hate" Who am I hating? How am I entitled? "It's weird af" The only weirdo here is you Kevin C. You sound like a creepy weirdo who thinks people shouldn't have thoughts about something because Kevin C is a self entitled illiterate creep who thinks people are creepy hateful and entitled for having thoughts. Not once have I hatefully name called Andrew or Greg. Not even once. Being sanctimonious or virtue signaling is not a "hate" word. You on the other hand, Kevin C, is a deranged creepy weirdo who thinks it's okay to name call strangers on the internet for having thoughts. What the hell are you Kevin C? You sound like straight up creep. Next time, keep your negative thoughts yourself and stop feeling so entitled to share your hate. Its weird af.

Jayla there is not a single "objectively bad" thing that he's done in this entire film nor is there anywhere where he takes unfair "advantage" of those around his for his personal gain. when has he taken "advantage" of those around him that isn't just him asking his friend for favor or "stealing from the rich is good as long as it's a person I don't like in which case it's bad." The only thing he's ever asked of Waller is for some money to gamble to recoup his plane ticket. He did not ask Rachel to call the dog guy to meet her alone in the middle nowhere. She put herself in that position. On the other hand he has been taken advantage of plenty of times. Taken advantage by his neglectful biological parents. Taken advantage by corrupt beurocrats like Ram Sethi. His employer takes advantage of his inability to travel for the sport forcing him to work at a shoe shop. His mother manipulates him by lying about her getting sick to make him quit playing and quit the championship. Rachel lied about her husband hitting her which is what made Marty hit ira. Rachel straight up refuses to tell him whether or not his husband "pulls out" which is a completely warranted question because he "pulls out" and because Rachel is demonstrably upset with her current upset with her current husband. Kevin O'Leary repeatedly tries to make him lose for his own company's personal gain. His girlfriend puts on eye make up to manipulate him into believing she's a victim of her actual husband (whom Marty didn't want her to marry because he would've married (settled) her himself after the championship but she refused anyway). Him having a bad history with foster moms and yet his latest foster mom still decides to be Hell bent on sabotaging his trip for the championship (and yet he still promises to "step up" and buy her a nice apatrtment) His employer refusing to pay him because paying him would mean he would leave forever. Being unlawfully arrested for "stealing money" that he was owed by paying off cops because he obviously has no influence to contest it. His owed money being stolen by his own employer from his own home. Kay (Gwyneth Paltrow) sleeping with Marty (a significantly younger) because of HER unfulfilled marriage. Josh Safdie himself says Marty Mauser was interested in Kay only because of his fascination of her stardom not s3xually. SHE knocked on his door in the middle of the night, not him. Taken advantage by a revengeful socialite who wants to see marty lose for personal gain. Taken advantage for a stretch ofnthe film by an infidel girlfriend who lies about getting abused to keep him away, lies to her own husband about her infidelities. Taken advantage by his co-worker who snitched him out to his employer. Taken advantage by his foster parent who is NEVER happy with him because he won't take the shoe salesman job. Taken advantage by Wally to an extent who literally takes 204$ for himself despite Marty having no money to go to Japan. List of places where Marty Mauser takes advantage of others around him for his own personal gain: 1. He stole a necklace from a rich person. The end. Josh safdie himself countless times have stated that he's pro-Marty Mauser, sympathetic AND empathetic to Marty Mauser AND that he has nothing but love and respect for Marty Mauser. it's insanely hilarious to see the "the movie is good because it says that marty mauser is bad" crowd. The people that think this movie some kind of ironic critique of Marty Mauser are lying to themselves or are going through to mental gymnastics to justify liking a movie that they are morally apprehensive against. Josh safdie himself (and the film itself) have been completely transparent at portraying Marty Mauser as the good guy, despite the eccentrics, and portraying Marty Mauser's journey as a positively admirable endeavor. You can deny the AUTHORIAL INTENT if you want but the fact is the fact.

Got it. So you also definitely believe that characters like Walter White, Omni-Man, Homelander, etc are all decent misunderstood people?

Ash

Jayla I hate Walter White. Haven't watched the others. Hope this helps.

Ash

You're not even making an argument. You literally make no sense. You can't even name a single "objectively bad" thing he's done in the film. (Because there isn't any). Instead you're naming a bunch of other people as a "gotcha" (failed miserably) as if it's proving your non-existent point. This is like someone calling you a good person and me going "You must think epstein, Osama and Hitler are all good people". You definitely think Hitler is a decent and misunderstood person don't you?

I would describe Marty Mauser as a "sociopathic narcissist" was too unlikable to root for as you guys said (Greg & Andrew). He keeps manipulating everyone around him to achieve his goal. This movie is a cinematic stress test, particularly its relentless energy and Timothée Chalamet's performance. The film is a "big-budget arthouse roller coaster ride" that balances Safdie’s signature chaotic intensity with a sprawling, 1950s period-piece ambition. Widely considered a career-best, Chalamet’s portrayal of Marty Mauser is described as a "trial of cinematic bravura." His transformation into a "stick-thin, beady-eyed" striver. Something like a 1970s-era Al Pacino. Josh Safdie’s solo debut is noted for its "breakneck storytelling" and "surgical precision." While it maintains the "anxiety-inducing" DNA of Uncut Gems. Darius Khondji's 35mm cinematography and Daniel Lopatin's '80s-inspired synth score have been singled out as highlights that create a "fever dream" atmosphere. I don't know!!! One Battle After Another is also cinematically incredible starring Leonardo DiCaprio (also Oscar contender).
