A refreshing rewatch! I for sure felt the queer allegory immediately as a queer person and really love it for that reason. Plus how beautiful of a setting in this!?

Loved watching this movie with y'all. This is the first time I've watched the movie, and it's now one of my favorites *because* of how much it parallels what it's like to be gay/queer: Some of the fish hiding in plain sight at the end, two worlds, parents not allowing you to go to the surface, parental abandonment for alberto, internalized homophobia that made Luca call out Alberto as a sea monster, being taken in by another family, etc. Lots of parallels. The Little Mermaid is also a queer allegory about being Trans (this was something revealed by the writers of that movie), and so the references to that are very apt. This story is also just very relatable for anybody who is ashamed of who they are and those who have like two identities, etc.
