In general I feel like S8 really isn't the abomination people make of it. The arcs and general ending make sense and feel mildly satisfying to me. If the season was 10 episodes long to make for a fix of the pacing issues and to just flesh out the writing a bit, and not have Dany's becoming insane arc feeling like she just woke up on the wrong side of the bed for example, it would've been near perfect imo.

Loved the journey btw, and hope you guys are doing well!

I agree actually, more episodes would have solved the pacing issues, but also Dany's arc is not as abrupt as people make it out to be. I've gone through the entire series 3 times at this point, and initially I was also on the side of not liking the arc, it didn't seem natural. But on the 2nd and 3rd go through watching it knowing how everything will happen without the spectacle of wondering what surprise is coming next, you start to notice the small Dany cracks extremely early in the series. After Drogo's death, when her and the Dothraki that remained with her were starving & looking for a safe haven and found Qarth, she literally threatened to burn their city to the ground simply because they would not offer her refuge, which I think was the first major red flag for me. Like Tyrion mentioned to John, "everywhere she goes bad men die and we cheer her for it", a lot of her violent tendencies get shrouded under the guise of her victims being bad people so they deserved it, but there are many instances where she wants to resort to violence & has to be convinced of a diplomatic approach by Jorah, and then once Tyrion joins her in S6 it becomes blatantly obvious how prone to violence she is at that point of the show.

I came here to say this. That many people’s biggest objection was they thought Dany just went mad overnight, but there were definitely signs of her mental shift much earlier. Even just burning the Tarly’s was an early sign to me. Not listening to Jon. The jealousy evident when he listened to his family and people listened to him rather than her.

Hope these 2 get into House of The Dragon 🤞🏼

Reminder that Dany had said earlier on that she did not want to rule through fear. In season 6, she kills Sam's father and brother for simply not bending the knee, essentially ruling through fear. When Tyrion made the comment about how she kills evil men and we love her for it, yes, they were truly evil men, but she did so much good in the beginning, that "we" refused to acknowledge the moments where she was slipping. This has really been building since season 2 (some might say season 1), so the ending shouldn't really shock anyone, but it goes to show that what Tyrion said was right. The only criticism I agree with the "haters" on is Cersei's death. I have my opinions on what they possibly were trying (and failed) to do with her character, but they would only be assumptions. Jaime died the way he told Braun he wanted to die; in the arms of the woman he loved.
