Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince WATCHALONG !!

Comments

Curtis Rice

Honestly, this was the only movie where I felt there was stuff left out. Even as a movie-only watcher, the whole mystery of who the 'Half-Blood Prince' actually is feels totally sidelined until a throwaway line at the very end. It definitely left me wanting more context. I actually just started the first Audible book. I'm only on chapter 7, but it's already been incredible!"

I think this is a very fun movie. It's true they really got rid of a lot of the stuff from the books. Instead they used a lot of screen time for things that made the movie feel more like a teen rom-com (with a weird dark green filter). You miss so much of the backstory of Voldemort etc. And of course that scene at the Weasley's house which was NOT in the book and just added to the movie for the movie's sake... Would have been nice if we got any taste of Snape's dark arts class, though. Yet... I don't hate it. It's one of my favorite HP movies to watch. There's a lot more humor and slice-of-life stuff, which has been sorely missing since Voldie returned at the end of Goblet. and things just get more depressing as time goes on. The humor in this movie was great. Also, the way they handled Draco's mission and internal conflict, plus Tom Felton actually getting to do a bit more with his character than just be a background bully, is something I really like. One other thing.. Roxie mentions how Dumbledore is always kinda looking off. If you notice, after Voldie returns, most of the adult Order members are always scanning the skies. They're looking out for ambushes by death eaters. The world literally isn't safe any more, and if you're outspoken against the death eaters, you could literally be killed before you'd even realize if you're not vigilant (Hence Moody's catchphrase "Constant Vigilance!"). Scary way to live.

I do hate they left a lot out, but also miss a time where movies didn't need to be spelled out for you lol

Even though this movie deviates from the book quite a bit, it's still my 2nd favourite of the movies, I find it the most rewatchable though as each time I rewatch I notice 1 or 2 things that I hadn't before. I do hope they get ginny's character right in the upcoming series as all of her scenes are by far the weakest of the movie and there is just no chemistry between her and Harry. I also hope they delve into Regulus Black more as his storyline is my favourite part of any of the books that was not included in the movies (bar him being mentioned in a couple of scenes).
