Akasha is the projenitor of all vampires (the first). All vampires are descended from her and they are all linked to her. Any damage she sustains is felt by all vampires worldwide. Enkil was her first fledgling so he contains the strongest connection to her and also contains a part of the "seed" that creates/links all vampires. When Marius got drunk off one of his victims' blood, he hadn't finished putting both into the crypt and left Enkil topside. When the sun rose and Enkil's body was exposed to the sun, all vampires worldwide burned as if exposed to the sun even if it was nighttime where they were. Only the oldest/strongest survived. It's why Lestat told Louis in season one there are only about 100 vampires left in the world when they first meet. Lestat even though a young vampire, his maker was 300 years old and Lestat was his only fledgling so that's why both him and Gabrielle were able to survive it, although injured. They had to run into a swamp to cover themselves. Akasha and Enkil are about 5,000-6,000 years old. They are like stone because they eventually lost their will to live/hunt so stopped drinking blood. Akasha and Enkil had to be kept because if they die, all vampires die.

Something to note - the necklace Lestat took from his father, gave to his mother and that she left behind when she abandoned him is the one Lestat gave to Claudia for her birthday in the first season.

I don't like Armand but I will defend Armand in one thing and that is that at the time Lestat met him in Paris, he believed his maker Marius was dead. He didn't lie, he was just wrong.

The movie Queen of the Damned is a bastardized version of the vampire chronicles because they melded the two books The Vampire Lestat and the Queen of the Damned. They changed Lestat's maker to be Marius in the movie because they didn't have time to go into Lestat's backstory with Magnus. Akasha is still in the movie but she is protrayed in the movie very differently to how she is protrayed in the books. The movie is very loosely based on the books but is in no way book accurate.
