Since Jackie said that she likes to play golf, she might like the film, The Greatest Game Ever Played. Very underrated sports film, and probably one of the most stylized directed and film-edited golfing films ever made. Great underrated cast too: Shia LaBeouf, Stephen Dillane, and Elias Koteas. The film was also directed by late actor Bill Paxton as well.

Glad you guys are starting this journey. Laughed way too hard on the wig reveal LOL. Lov all the refrences that remind you of other IPs... but remember all the things youre thinking of came from this first. JRR Tolien wrote this between 1937 and finally published in 1949. All current fantasy tropes come from this. Also your observance of lack of POC. Tolkien was writing an English myth based on northern mythologies such as Norse, Celtic, Germanic. Elves are based on the Irish/Celtic Farie, fair skined imortals. Orcs are evil twisted elves not representing any POC, whish is a misstake imagined by current politics. RPGs, Fantasy Games, books and movies predominently come from this. Gimley asked for a strand of hair because a strand of Galadrials hair contains emmense power. Once the Dwarves would forge great artifacts and weapons from a single hair... So it was a great honor she gave 3... not creepy. Keep on watching, love the reactions

Is the only way to watch this with the full movie overlay? Is there a way to have just the reaction by itself?

the languages, "Quenya" and "Sindarin" are not fake. in point of fact, Tolkien created the languages before writing lotr or the hobbit! also, love the watch along format. i have medical issues that make it challenging to watch movies, especially long movies, uninterrupted. however, the sound levels were out, at least they were for me. the movie was much to quiet compared to you guys.

Good call! This is a recent shift so I neglected to change that! Thank you for pointing that out. - PLD

Yes! I studied linguistics in college (not my major, but I took a few classes on phonology, etc). Tolkien was not just a writer, but a cartographer (drawing his own detailed maps) and linguist, creating real languages with proper and cohesive sounding words, grammar, etc. Very cool.

also, it bears noting that much of Tolkiens writings are inspired by his experiences as a British officer in WWI, his strong faith in his Christian Catholic belief and his immense love for his wife. to attempt to impose contemporary moral dogma on art that had no concept of such a thing will produce inaccurate results that make absolutely no sense at all. the reason that things seem so "white" is that the period and setting for these tales had little to no experience with P.O.C. hence their absence. it is an accurate portrayal.

I’m still watching the reaction. I’m so surprised that they didn’t recognize Sean Bean when he first showed up. I’m guessing they have never seen Game of Thrones. They need to watch that and other movies he’s in.

I love this series. And the Extended Editions are the only way to watch for me. I started reading JRR Tolkien books at 8 just before I turned 9. I started with the Hobbit. Then moved to Lord of the Rings. These books started coming out in the 1930's. So LOTR has influenced fantasy from fiction books to games like Dungeons and Dragons, Warcraft, The Witcher, and so much more. The best piece of advice I can give you is print out a Map of Middle Earth that you can refer to. Just in the first movie, the story moved between a lot of locations. It will help you keep yourself oriented on this vast continent. You are doing great in taking notes and referring to them. But be warned, some characters might even be referenced by 3 different names. So it can get confusing. And the ones with similar names are tough too. I'm glad you seem to be enjoying it. Hopefully the haters who were difficult on the last pair of ladies for RR (Roxy & Tara) who watched will grow up and be kind. We don't need that. I hope you love it as much as I do.

Can we please leave the racial politics out of reactions. The Orcs were never based off of black people as Jackie implied. Terms like Halfing are not meant to be considered as a racial slur. There is no reason to turn such an amazing trilogy into something its not. Just enjoy it for what it is.
