Regardless the adaptation I have always been thrown out of the moment when the kids start laughing at Carrie after she gets drenched with blood. I always found that too over the top. I believe people will continue filming but all of them laughing instead of some of them immediately going up to help her always challenged my suspension of disbelief. And while I always felt bad for Carrie, this has been the only iteration where I actually got emotional for her and it's all due to the amazing performance of Summer Howell throughout the show. She just breaks my heart almost every time she's on screen. I hope she, along with Samantha Sloyan, get properly recognized during awards season.

Stephen King has built a vast and interconnected universe, within which many of his works take place (The Shining, It, etc.). Everything converges in his novel "The Dark Tower." Carrie doesn't belong to this universe, but it is his very first book. It's therefore possible that he reconsidered his position on how to integrate Carrie into his universe. This would explain why, after Mike Flanagan presented his idea for Carrie, he joined the project as a producer. Mike Flanagan is a huge fan of Stephen King and his novels, and his dearest dream is to adapt "The Dark Tower" (a very complex work). Amazon finally offered him the opportunity to adapt Carrie, and he likely seized it to begin adapting King universe (Kingverse) and, at the same time, give Carrie a new destiny within it through this series. All that remains is to wait and see what happens next, but given the success of Carrie, there is a good chance that the series will indeed launch King extended universe on television.

So sad for Carrie, she didn't deserve any of this crap and definitely does not deserve to end up with supremely problematic Emaline. Also so sad for Tommy who was such a good boy. Can't wait for next season, though I'm definitely disappointed we won't get to see Samantha Sloyan next season. For a sec I thought Kate Siegel's character was going to take her under her wing so they could team up and find Carrie. Her fate in the last scene was terrifying because she was so terrified. Such a superb performance. This was such fun ride, thanks for making it even more fun with your reactions, Team RR!

I loved this entire series except for Emaline's role in the prom, I feel like a key aspect of the Carrie story is she is driven to becoming a monster because of people being monsters to her, and Emaline taking over really messes with that, besides that it was an amazing series

Pardons for the multipost, re Emaline taking over, I'm ok with that because the way they've portrayed Carrie in this version, she has always chosen kindness, and that moment between her and bitchass Tina underlined that, so it might not have been in character for her to go full mass murder mode on her classmates at this point in time. Add to that that she doesn't have the additional stressor at home of a mother who is overboard fanatical (unlike in the movies with the crazy religious moms), the extreme triggers just isn't present to push her over the edge to that degree. Giving her a more loving mother and a sweeter personality overall made Emaline taking over and causing the carnage make more sense.

I have read the book, watched all iterations of the movie many times and all Kings works. I absolutely loved this movie, Ive already mentioned this in the other posts. I love the Dr Sleep, and all Shine parts of the King verse in this. That said, and feeling somewhat guilty saying it, I did not like some choices for the prom. The Emily driveing Carrie takes much away from the mental break Carrie goes through. I hated that they made Carrie accidentally kill Tommy, that changes too much for me. It taints Carries inocence and removes the Chris culpability. In the book the shine comes from her father. That said this was very well done.

I've seen all versions and read the book. I did appreciate the 2002 TV movie they made but no one really is mentioning that. Like what Mike Flanagan did with Hillhouse he took the basic story and characters and changed & moved things around but keeping some core elements. But in this, I felt he had to hit certain points, which I don't think we're different enough like the prom or the shower scene. Those things you can't help but compare to the other versions. What made other versions slightly better IMO is that they felt more intimate and isolated for the characters so it made it more personal. This just made it like an X-Men origin story.

You missed Don Mancini and Bryan Fuller cameos in episode 7 at the prom! Also the girl that plays Carrie also played the little girl in Cult of Chucky!

Matthew Lillard is truly great. His reaction after the blood was so spot on and effective.

I don't think that Emaline is the daughter of the blond woman, that tried to shoot Carrie. To me it was pretty obvious that she killed her daughter by suffocating her that night. That's why Carrie's mother contacted her. She also tried to kill Carrie after the bath, because that woman told her that was the only solution.

Hope this does well enough for a season 2 because it would be great to get a new Carrie story. SPOILERS AHEAD................................. I always hated the ending of the original movie where Carrie kills her mom and herself. Very glad to see they changed that and the story can now continue on. No idea what they could do, but can't wait to see it (fingers crossed).
