Just watched your comments quickly as I don't have time to watch the full reaction right now. I think Dean's behaviour this episode is a mixture of him being genuinely delighted to have his brother back, and him being determined that everything's going to be okay. We've seen Dean's coping mechanism in the past - ignore it and hope it will go away. How many times has that worked for him? I think we can safely say never. But that scene between Cas and Sam is a delight. I still don't really know why Sam refuses to hug him, though. Still excited for you to find out what's actually going on.

Melanie LeBlanc

I always thought Sam refused to hug Cas because he remembers killing him as Lucifers vessel. Sam said "I would hug you..." Then Cas said " That would be awkward." We know Cas doesn't blame Sam for that, but I can understand how Sam would still feel guilty, especially since it feels so fresh in Sam's memories. I might be wrong, but that what I inferred. Or Sam didn't want Dean to find out he's putting the moves on his boyfriend. 😝 Sorry, I couldn't resist the joke

Toasted Toad

Oh, right. That makes sense. I hadn't thought about Sam's actions while he was Lucifer's vessel.

AdoptDontShopPets

idk seems to me that Sam feeling sorry would have been more reason to hug Cas and say he is sorry, but I will go with this theory because it’s been 10 years and I’ve never seen a reason, so this idea helps

Toasted Toad

Yes, especially as Cas is the one offering the hug. I’ll go with Melanie’s explanation, though

Jeffrey Mlinek

I think in general Sam was feeling guilty about his actions without a soul. In particular, Sam threatening to kill Cas if he didn't help him in episode 10 made Sam feel awkward around Cas.

Great reaction, guys! One of the things that bothered Dean the most about Soulless Sam was that his instincts were gone. This episode made it a point to show us how "on" Sam's instincts really are. Most of those questions you have are rooted in that. I've always felt that they were trying to show us the contrasts between Soulless and Soulfull Sam in this episode with his actions and Jared's performance. One of the best parts about the Soulless arc is that Jared made most of the decisions on how to characterize it, and that trust they had in his ability paid off enough to give us that amazing scene between him and Cass, and the one at the end to a lesser degree. The scene didn't require tears...that was Jared really feeling the moment as normal Sam again. Brilliant. The dynamic between Sam and Dean is normal again, too...and unfortunately, they tried a little too hard to point that out with some of the Dean dialog, which doesn't necessarily bother me, but is a little "extra". I don't blame Jensen for that, though (I'm looking at you Adam Glass). The comedy schtick always made me laugh, but I do get why it felt a little off for the episode. Hell, after the last episode and having Soulfull Sam back for 5 mins, I'm really surprised they chose to have him even leave Sam for that long given the stakes. Although now, I can see it as a possible way to show how Dean's instincts are off now. But that's just me being nitpicky, and doesn't take away my love for the episode.

Toasted Toad

No, that doesn't work, Jeffrey - Sam doesn't remember his actions when he was without a soul. In fact, finding out that he was walking around without a soul is the whole purpose of his conversation with Cas.

I've always thought it's maybe a mix between that (killing him as Lucifer) but also some part of his subconscious is linking him to Michael and Lucifer because Angel. Could also be that he felt bad about the fact that he was about to trick him... Idk...
