I had the same reaction when I listened to Imaginary Friend!! Became my favorite ITZY song immediately after my first listen and the MV + performance for it only further established that.

Supernatural sounds really familiar but I can’t place it… Unfortunately I wasn’t a huge fan of Gold 🧎but Imaginary Friend and Bad Girls R Us are immediately on my playlist. I definitely see what you mean about Itzy going in the direction of Bad Girls R Us too, loads of potential in that especially as Itzy matures as a group

This EP was great and I loved it!! I still think born to be is THAT album (although untouchable is kind of weak compared to the other songs imo) and a small part of me wishes itzy got to have Gold and Untouchable in their previous release, and have this one with either five/bad girls r us or born to be as a title track/promoted pre-release. It's really such a pity that born to be, performance-wise, was so insane but only ot4 and it would have been so cool to see it as like itzy's first release after Lia is back. SKZ is my favourite kpop group of all time so I'm very biased here but I loved hearing Changbin's verses together with ITZY's voices! It sounds so much like a SKZ song but I feel like it is still quite tame - VAY as it is rn would probably not make it as a bside into a SKZ album, if SKZ had released it instead, I can imagine that the the topline and instrumental would need tweaked to be more experimental and unique and I wish this happened with ITZY and got them to push their boundaries more. Can you imagine if ITZY did a song like COMFLEX??? That would be so insane omg (Speaking of SKZ, they have a new japanese EP coming out in 1 week on the 13th! They've already released 2 songs in it for an OST and this is such a bold statement, but it's better than TOP/SLUMP imo!)

The songs are Falling Up and Night - now I don't want to hype it up too much but I think both of them are AMAZING. Whether it is better than slump is probably more just a matter of personal preference but quality-wise this is just as good, if not better!

Easily my top kpop album of 2020's Usually find myself picking a song or two from multiple albums to form a playlist but theres enough diversity in GOLD for me to just listen to it the whole way through everytime. Wasnt a hater of Lia but the final versions really emphasized her value in the group, absolute bangers with her included Also maybe just because im a delusional twice fan, but some of these b-sides seem very Twice'esque? Specifically could see Twice doing 'supernatural' and 'five' If you dont see it its fine to call me delusional LOL

I loved Gold on first listen and loved it even more when I listened to it again and again it just gets richer, Dem Jointz and Itzy are a perfect match, the song is insanely rhythmical and switches up so often; I saw how difficult it was to tackle in their recording behind and dance behind reflect that it tackles pop, pop rock, and hip hop—which reflects what ITZY is: SHOWSTOPPERS, they don’t do their best work when they play in the sandbox, or at least they lose their color, they should be outside the box and genre bending that’s when they shine

Imaginary Friend is so compelling I CANT FIGURE IT OUT the song structure is so strange and the melody is so interesting, I feel like I’m thrown off every time with what’s the post chorus what’s the bridge but now there’s rapping?? IM OBSESSED this is on top of a stellar vibe, ITZY said it’s about an imaginary friend that they don’t know if it’s good OR bad, playing into the melancholy but also some type of meaning unknown I can hear in their voices and the song there’s a horror sound BUT ALSO ITS PRESENTATION IS A AN EMOTIONAL POP SONG THAT ITZY DOES SO WELL, there’s so much depth to the song and I cried listening to it the first time bc it felt sad and haunting and POWERFUL it’s something they haven’t done before and yet also doesn’t fall into any convention which is the ITZY standard, I love them making their own and breaking the rules

I LOVE ITZY DOING EMOTIONAL POP, we got a taste of it in Be In Love which I think people didn’t understand yet and then we had to wait until BET ON ME which people did finally get but that and Imaginary Friend have such strong sentiment and give me chills, make me tear up bc their voices are underutilized to convey this more soft emotion, they’ve been capable of always tapping into emotion but you can see the growth since Be In Love and how they’re ready to tackle something like Imaginary Friend it feels so vulnerable + ofc the group that has been all about accepting yourself and being proud of quirks and flaws can execute this, it’s been building up to this and in a flash I could just see their entire journey to get here when I first listened

The recording behind for VAY is so funny seeing Changbin direct them 😂 but I couldn’t be happier with the results it just goes so hard and it’s perfect for ITZY and glad we got more than just a verse of Changbin, a proper feature

I'm going to say it here because I know I won't be judged, but I really don't like Gold, it's honestly my least favourite Itzy title track and I was so disappointed when I heard it (especially because their previous comeback was phenomenal). Imaginary Friend though, what a song. I'm really surprised it is a title track as well, but I'm so glad they did it, I love everything about it and the choreo is stunning. The album is great as well.

Gold was the best title track option in terms of what this comeback meant (LIA RETURNING) the loose concept of the album: now I will be a Gold defender to the day I die but I totally see what u mean of something like Bad Girls R Us being their FUTURE (it’s hilarious to imagine aloof suave ITZY not that they couldn’t do it but I imagine having a choreo that doesn’t go hard or require power would throw them for a loop 😂 I could see Ryujin or Yeji being perplexed like oh wait we’re supposed to hold back and not hit this as hard/fiery); Bad Girls R Us would be a fantastic as a single and ITZY has never promoted a single; GOLD is the song that frames and ground all the songs in this album together in a concept that has white cover, a gem mineral theme of an unrefined jewel that itzy is and they like it that way and the song genres GOLD has fit the rest of the album for even things like imaginary friend and five; also to say, Lia’s return comeback song needed to be GOLD, it’s a song that’s very Itzy but not ITZY at the same time so it’s evolving but not abandoning the fact that there is a comfort in having them return as five, and I think they needed an energetic song as a statement for their return and honestly celebratory vibes

Im the type of person that really values how a song sounds on its own, without a music video or a performance to back it up and i feel like gold is one of those songs that would translate really well as a song for a large scale performance on like queendom or award show stages, but bcus its so jarring, i would never listen to it outside of watching the performance. But this album is so special cus marks lia coming back and it really feels like the start of a new era that i am really excited for 🥹

I think bad girls r us could be a great title track but I wouldn’t take it at the expense of the ARTISTRY of the imaginary friend mv and performances…
