the future version, i’m a hater… when i’m with you lover!!!!! i’ve finally found you 😭 this song takes the cake for me, my ultimate fav!! lisa’s rap on this song is also my favorite 😭 my top 3 (excluding prereleases) 1 when i’m with you 2 thunder 3 dream/lifestyle i agree w like everything you said, that’s crazy, ESPECIALLY THE TRACKLIST ORDER i’m excited for her solo coachella performance, most of these songs have a perfect vibe for it plus w her performing skills!!

Marii

maybe you’ve heard of tyla, the song water? with the twerking? don’t know if you ever keep up w idols challenges they post but idols really enjoy doing her songs for tiktok challenges, the songs push 2 start & water! :)

Mika

i agree with the future and megan features 😭 this album has been getting a lot of hate from people and i honestly think people are hating on it too much. part of the reason i think is like what you said the tracklist order. i feel like there was awesome production on this album but it just lacked in the lyrics/storytelling for some songs. i agree with how some songs didn't need to be part of the album.

N O R A

Ugh whenever i listen to this album again my favorites change but top three for me would be 1. When i’m with you 2. Chill 3.dream/lifestyle

Sascha

Chill, Lifestyle & Dream are the bsides I enjoyed, I prefer not to go too much into detail about the rest (especially looking at you Elastigirl). But I think this album would've been much better with 7-10 songs instead of its actual size.

First reactions/a first impression matters! I truly believe in the art of tracklist arrangement. I think nearly all these songs are SO DOPE and badass but it’s also very not K-Pop and the sonic vibe switches quite a bit which might lead people to be giving this album hate. Absolutely not warranted.

So... lately I have noticed a lot of hate on Lisa, which is common to happen, when you get to the popularity this big. But because of that I want to say in advance I am not hating on her with what I say. (It is not necessary to say, I guess, but for example with JungKook's Golden I apparently came off as his hater just because I was not fully into the idea he was going for and in this case I critique might be similar...). As someone, who had been looking forward to BLACKPINK's debut from I feel like the very first year of me getting into Kpop, therefore a couple years prior to their debut year, I have always paid attention to BLACKPINK's solos. The thing with Lisa is that after a few of her latest singles, I realized her solo might just not be for me and I had to respect her decision of focusing on the western/global sphere way more. But the interesting aspect of this all is (compared to JungKook) this album does not feel like 100% western and there are "glimps" of Kpop here and there, but that does not mean it is handled as a Kpop album. Not just the tracklist order as you are saying but the whole concept is not properly reached to its potential. Well... now saying that out loud I came up with a perfect example. This feels like as if western company decided to create a Kpop album with biggest budget and the biggest effort for sure, but they missed the "Kpop know-how/soul". By this I do not want to sound like I am comparing this to things like Kaachi or whatever. I do not want to say it is a knock-off or cheap! Actually if those "western wannabes" were like this, that would have been really cool! I guess what I am trying to say is she went for a concept way too big to be handled by her brand new label. For example the idea of alter egos is really cool and I can imagine it being done on whole another level, if the A&R team made sure those egos or personalities are way recognizable. And I do not mean it in the way of: "Everybody has to be fully into the whole world and lore", but just to make it simple to remember and recognize. First example comes to my mind... DPR IAN. I admire this dude, I buy his discography to support him, but I am not like a fan, who gets deep into every theory, but it is obvious to me that there is a character called Mr. Insanity, Mito and I think Ian himself (in a way). And dude does that on his own (pretty much). I can imagine Lisa working with a Kpop company with more knowledge and know-how would make this idea work way better. I do not want to hate on her creating LLOUD and sound like: "She should have stayed with YG or join a label like The Black Label as Rosé did (also lately I am starting to think Teddy might not want to focus that much on the regular/common style, but that is a different story)"... I just think it might have been too early to go for this, maybe? To give some solution/suggestion, so I do not sound like I know everything the best and just critize everything... Making this way larger plan for more mini albums leading up to this or making a full length album Part 1 focused on a few of those alter egos and making it clear there are more of them yet to be revealed in Part 2. On the other hand I have to admit, it might have not been possible because of their schedules with BLACKPINK. That depends on how big those plans are and if there is something to be released prior to the world tour or not. Well, that is the problematic aspect of these days that (bigger) groups do not disband after members leaving the label, but still staying in the group, because despite it being nice that "we still go on", it is complicated to match schedules of that many people under different labels, so it may happen that something cannot be done to its fullest potential. To give a feedback to the music itself... It is truly weird. I will straight up say I hardly ever went back to any of those singles and play it just like that. But somehow listening to all of them in this album makes it sound a bit different, but that might be just the aspect of giving it time + me being aware not to expect any 'usual' Kpop song, because although I appreciate pretty much all the songs more, the album makes me go and listen to those specific songs, it does not make me replay the whole album from start to end as it is with Jennie's Ruby, which is also kind of all over the place, but it does not feel that way. By that I wanted to say I am really curious to your opinon on Ruby, because of how you feel about Alter Ego. So... see you there!

I mostly wished some songs had more interesting lyrics, were arranged differently in the album, and that the personas concept was more solid. Despite that, I think there are a lot of really good songs, some of which we already knew, like Born Again and New Woman, but also Chill, Dream, and When I'm With You (I can't with Elastigirl tho lol) Ps: Rapunzel is so fun! The "that's money" part is very catchy, I feel so hyped singing that part 😆

As I mentioned in the first comment of mine here… without getting deeper into the lore, I cannot distinguish all and how many alter egos are here and apparently there are not 3, not 4 but 5 and here is the explanation: The first alter ego, Roxi, is inspired by the song "Rockstar" and is depicted on cover art holding a guitar in an enchanted garden, with an accompanying description describing her as a rockstar that lives to "entertain and always command the stage". The second alter ego, Sunni, deriving from "Moonlit Floor (Kiss Me)", is a free-spirited French speaker with brown curly hair who has a "je ne sais quoi for sun-kissed days and sea-breezy nights". The third alter ego, Kiki, based on "New Woman", is an Internet lover with a sassy Y2K aesthetic who can be found "burning CDs or finding something new to obsess over" and is styled with pink hair and a pink wardrobe. The fourth alter ego, Speedi, corresponding to "Lifestyle", is a sports car driver with bright orange hair who is "built for the rush, wired for the win" and has "just installed the NOS kit" in her car. The fifth alter ego, Vixi, accompanies the song "Fxck Up the World" and is "the one they love to call the 'Villain'". The album's official tie-in comic, Alter-Ego: The Official Comic, features the five alter egos as friends in a cyberpunk city, working together to save Vixi from being trapped in virtual reality. So… to be fucking honest… Speedi & Vixi feel like spin off versions of Roxi. So both my words and yours (PD’s) vision seem to be correct. They either should have worked way more on those alter egos to make them way more different from each other and easy to remember. OR Keep it just 2 or 3, where number two is the “transition part” of Born Again & New Woman, so despite you making only two alter egos, you created one within them without thinking about it.

Liv

This album puts me in a trance that I just end up putting it on repeat until I don’t know how many times I’ve listened

Liv

My one wish is for rockstar, I think it really needs that outro we get in the extended version like in the music video, i think it really adds something to the vibe, im always prone to loving an outro

Liv

I’ve come to really appreciate the production on elastigirl, on first listen lyrics and her flow caught my attention first but listening to it more it’s just such an interesting beat

Liv

Thunder has come to be one of my personal favorites, it gave me chills, it feels so grandiose and epic in scale like a grand statement piece from Lisa, what she’s trying to do with this album and captures this insane energy she has an artists, and her tone in it is one of my favorites in the verses, but then there’s also LIFESTYLE which is also wild, I think if listened to these two songs back to back I’d be running on adrenaline for like an hour lol

Liv

Knowing she’d be switching alter egos or trying to say with the album these are the sides of me and these different personas I bring out for the song, I wasn’t particularly bothered by the track listing but I did get used to it after many listens and I can see how much better it could’ve been received if they were packaged together like these are Vixi in one section and these are Sunni, etc—I think just literally move badgrrrl and lifestyle under futw and then even that would help for flow bc of how different dream feels, if this were just 5 track EP then I see ok last song is dream it’s slower that makes sense but bc there’s so many go hard songs and to technically end with dream as last original song while separating from moonlit floor that far I can admit is a bit of an odd tone to end on, personally when listening to it first thunder sounded like a great opener and lifestyle a great closer hearing them independently from everything else as well, I still listen to all tracks in one go on loop bc I love the songs but yeah I don’t think there’s as strong as flow as there could’ve been but I think it’s more missed opportunity than anything

This album has been getting SO MUCH HATE online that I had genuinely thought it was that bad (I didn't listen to it fully during the first week) -- not to mention she was also getting hate prior to this album release for her singles (Born Again and Moonlit Floor) but after listening to it and watching your breakdown of it, it only made sense for this album to be braggadocios as 1. The only persona and image she has been used to for most of her professional life was the rapper/dancer image persona and 2. She blew up in the western industry for her track "Money". With that said, I think they tried to stay on brand with what she was known for so as not to shock the world too much with the changes though I think that's why she sprinkled songs like "Moonlit Floor" and "Dream" in the album as she also wanted to try songs (i.e, ballads) that she wasn't really given much chance to sing when she was in Blackpink. Putting the lyricism into consideration, I do agree that some tracks just seemed too hollow and shallow but I genuinely didn't really expect much for the lyrics out of her as she seemed more so a "Performer" than an "Artist" (in a similar way that Rosie is more of an artist than a performer) so it's great for the tracks to have these really SICK AMAZING BEATS to make up for the hollowness. I remember watching your album reaction for BLACKPINK's "The Album" and you saying that you really wanted to see Lisa unleash the inner rapper in her and just have the freedom to spit the bars so I'm genuinely happy to know that you enjoyed her debut album too (putting the tracklist arrangement ofcourse!).

To me this album felt like something new something crazy the music videos, the comic book that she is releasing the Alter Egos the songs everything was top notch. I really believe that she killed it.

I love this album but I feel like Lisa got kinda lost in the features. I love When I’m With You but it feels like Tyla feat Lisa. I think she got lost in the whole “5 alter ego” concept. I’m still confused as to what song is her alter ego. I understand the obvious ones but still confused as a whole. Maybe her teaser should’ve focused on that instead of what we ended up with. I think she will learn from this on her sophomore effort. Lisa is special and she has a lot more potential and creativity in her.

Kirtana Pillai

I am super late to this listening party but I also think the reason she did this so that she had a proper tracklist for coachaella cause she is performing as solo artist.

fien

the way PD gradually stopped vibing to FUTW when Future did his verse 😂 Same PD, the VIXI solo version is so much better :p Like why is his feature even on the album...

fien

"FUTW is a song Treasure's rap unit could have done" Holy shit PD, I will never listen to the song the same way. You are 100% correct, I love that!
