Sven Lenders

Before I watch this, I’ve send you some info on the survival shows, if you have time it would be nice if you could check it out.

Sven Lenders

Jungeun is 2007 and Saebi is 2008, but in terms of age they are the same so maybe they decided to speak informally with each other. But yeah indeed Jungeun is younger than I thought because she is second to maknae but she looks more mature. I also think Jungeun is trying to be helpfull and giving her insights as a former leader,, but it comes off as her being egotistical. What she should have done is ask Saebi if it would be okay to share her opinions and thoughts while not taking the lead away from Saebi, because she acts like she didn't want to be the leader, but deep down she does want to learn it as well.

I do have to say that I hate the fact that trainees always try to push others away from the parts they want, and others not daring to try something. Like support each other, you need each other and if you don't get the part you wanted, at least you tried and move on to the next part you want/get and kill that. You should really know what benifits the team so you can show yourself. And you also need to be honest with yourself, like Sujung will never be a main vocalist, that is the hard truth, she has a good voice, but her dancing skills is her strongest weapon. (This doesn't only apply to Sujung)

I would also be interested to see a show like this being juged by a team of professionals sometime soon (so no voting), because I feel like not everybody has a chance of debuting sometimes. Like the La Vie En Rose performance for example, purely based on how they did this would be the order: 1) Fuko 2) Gyuri 3) Jeemin 4) Sarang But the fact that Jeemin got 1st shows that people will actually vote more for people they knew from prior survival shows/groups and people that are visualy more apealing than others. Now, i'm not saying this is a problem, but I would like to see a show based on skills only. The concept would be something with appearance hiding. That way we'll get a group that is percieved as the ones who are the best at what they have to do. But I think everyone who is left on the show deserved to debut anyway.

Mai looks like a mix of a cat, a bunny and Yeji of ITZY, she even sounded like her to me. her representative animal is a fox

Something that I do feel like bothered me about this show (and maybe it is also accurate with other shows) is that the judges kind of have their bias already and want them to do well. Like the Lovesick Girls rehersal, Monika and Leejung kept telling Yuju she should do more and make it more boyish, but they didn't really specify what that means. That is because I know they wanted Koko to do the part since she suited the part better in their opinion. They gave Yuju the chance to improve but didn't really help her with clear explanations of how to do that. I just got reminded of the boys planet Love Me Right team where Yedam didn't do the killing part right, but to my feeling nothing was wrong with that, what I do know is that they definitely wanted Hanbin to do it. I feel like that bias is a bit unfair tbh.

Sven Lenders

To me it seems like Yuju's mic was just way too low

@ 51:20 - The reason why 24 looks so proud of Jiyoon is because Jiyoon used to be a TheBlackLabel trainee before joining I-LAND 2 (the only one at that!) and he was the one who encouraged Jiyoon to take part in I-LAND 2 which I guess is why he has that 아빠 미소 because he's proud of how far she's come since he's seen her from way before the show LOL That's also why Jiyoon said she'd be confident in this mission since she thinks she fits the "Black Made" image when the mission was introduced

Rewatching this made me realize that no matter how hard Gyuri or Fuko works or how well she does, it's a popularity contest at the end of the day. I know that's what a survival show is tbh, I just wish Izna had more singers because we only have Jungeun and Jiyoon, that's it. ZB1 raised my expectations too high because Taerae, Hao, Hanbin, Gunwook, Matthew, and Ricky can be Main Vocals in a lot of different groups. Jiwoong, Yujin and Gyuvin can even be Lead Vocals in different groups as well. Even the top 18 in Boys Planet who didn't make it were such strong vocalists (Seungeon, Hui, Jay, Park Hanbin, etc.) Whereas in Izna, It's just Jungeun and Jiyoon. Boys Planet was really just an anomaly.

I am no expert on survival shows, but to me it usually feels like most of the contestants are originally dancers or have dancing as their “main skill”. Therefore it is somewhat expected to happen/it may easily happen that the team is mainly based of members, who were originally dance focused. If that makes sense

Zerose777

Oh trust me, I’ve known that for a while now. That’s why I like Xiumin’s comment in NCT Lastart: “No matter how good you are at dancing, if you can’t sing or sing well, you don’t look talented.” Can you believe he got hate for saying that? He basically called out that Kpop Idols are becoming glorified backup dancers and it’s true. As long as you can dance, you’ll get in a group, even if you’re tone deaf.

Kuro Kurt

that 50/50 voting is not true at all the worst thing voting can give u is set at 78 but the producers can give u 1 point if they reallly dont like u its more of an 25/75

Actually Sae-bi speaks formally to Jung-eun. Jung-eun was born late 2007 while Sae-bi was born early 2008, so at the time of the show they were considered the same age. However, they trained together for a long time so the hierarchy had already been set between them.

MITNITE98

I agree partially with you. There is a point of view on Kpop idols that is true but has been distorted by fans nowadays, which is that being an idol is not just about singing, because they are performers. Many new-gen fans are looking down on singing skills and glamorizing stage presence, but singing was, is and will always be the pillar of all skills. On the other hand, singing is not the only factor that sculptures an idol, otherwise that concept would have never been born. Balancing between singing (including rapping), dancing and acting on stage is their job's description. To me, the requirement for singing for an idol is at least on pitch, on beat and stable while doing the other two tasks. This is why becoming a high-quality idol is extremely hard, but the popularity reward is much faster and bigger than that of pure singer or dancer.

MITNITE98

Going back to your comment, it is true that Jung-eun and Ji-yoon are pretty much the only members that can be considered developed vocalists, but it's overboard to say that only 2 of them can sing. Fuko and Gyuri can sing better than some members of IZNA, but they lack in other areas that make them unable to gain the trust from the producers. At the end of the day, it's their judgements that matter. Creating an idol group is not just collecting as many vocalists as possible, it's more of gathering different talents to support the whole team and create a certain picture. To me, IZNA's line-up fulfills that perfectly.

Zerose777

Fair enough. Though they sing better than most Izna members, not some. If Fuko and Gyuri were in the lineup, Fuko would be tied with Jungeun for 2nd and Gyuri would be after them, then it would be the rest of the Izna members. I prioritize vocalists in groups and if not, you have to be an insane dancer. That’s why groups like Nexz are the exception for me. None of them are bad singers by any means, but they’re definitely not the strongest vocal wise. But over half of them specialize in popping, b-voting, locking, etc. I can confidently say they’re the best dancers of 5th gen.

Shaun Fortune

Stating that Jiyoon is better than and that Fuko is equal to Jungeun is a crazy take.

Shaun Fortune

Add in a dash of Yoon Jia and boom

Shaun Fortune

Hiding appearance takes away an important part of being an idol, their visual. Idols go viral often for their visuals and probably moreso than their skills. You can't really have a successful group doing it that way. Look at the groups from Girls on Fire and Girls Reverse. One flopped on debut and disappeared and the other couldn't even secure investment in order to debut. There's no "perfect" system for voting/judging a survival show. R U Next showed us that judges can just be parrots for the producers. We just gotta live with what we get and hope for the lesser of multiple evils.

Zerose777

How? Just because Jungeun can do high notes better, doesn’t mean she’s a better singer. Jiyoon’s mid and lower register is superior to Jungeun. Jiyoon supports up to A4 consistently. I can agree that Fuko is below Jungeun but the difference is minuscule tbh.

Shaun Fortune

Their equal in skill level overall but Jungeun is more stable while dancing so she wins the tiebreaker

jessie

It was so fun watching you reacting to the number of debut members😆 can’t wait for you to see what happens it’s kinda epic~

Tobe

I get this concept in theory but in practice hiding the appearance of trainees would severely hinder the chances of someone like Saebi who isn't the best vocalist or dancer on the show but excels at injecting new life into songs with her facial expressions. Being an idol isn't about pure singing or dancing capabilities. Performance is a key skill (arguably *the* key skill) idols need to have and I can't see anyone seriously saying that someone like Saebi is less deserving of her spot in the debut line up than let's say Fuko simply because she's a weaker vocalist

jessie

Saebi makes her parts feel like it’s her solo stage… especially her part in the beginning damn. It felt like the rap didn’t start till koko came in, she jumpstarted that section. During practice I thought I didn’t like jungeun’s voice for this song… I was SO WRONG

Neeko

I'm cackling at the Sarang tiger edit all over again LOL. Mnet, the way your mind works.

Zerose777

Stability has little to do with a good vocalist. Sakura is more stable than Yunjin but if anyone thinks she’s a better singer, you need your ears cleaned. Yushi is also more stable than Sion, but Sion is undoubtedly the better singer.

Mai looks so much like Yeji
