In tears, in absolute awe of the sheer brilliance that is this album, and the singer and artist that is Jonghyun.

jonghyun was either singing about something deep and life changing or about being horny and i love that for him 😂😂

Nintendo DS.

Love this album when i 1st heard it (only a month ago 😅) but i love every song, but u missed one more song called fortune cookie it’s a secret song off the album that isn’t on any streaming app just the physical album definitely recommend listening to that

JT

also just to give a brief bg abt the “plagiarism series”, when taemin did his first album “Ace”, jonghyun liked the album cover so much that he literally templated it for his first solo album, and named it “Base”. They called him out for the plagiarism and he straight up was like “yep i did it and?” 😂😂😂 From then on it’s been an ongoing bit in shinee. Key also followed suit with “Face” then Onew with “Voice” before they left for the military lol Then Minho released his first ever solo album and kept the bit alive by following the template and naming his album “Chase”. They all have the same album cover format and the same font so they look super cohesive side by side. Then recently, shinee kept the tradition alive by plagiarizing poet artist. If you look at the side cover of the album, it’s very similar to Jonghyun’s poet artist 😂😂 And the funny thing is this is all done in jest and pettiness. They just like taking digs at each other like true siblings 😂😂

My confession is that Mono-Drama's instrumental nowadays always catches me by surprise because I mainly hear it in a song mash-up with ONEW's Love Phobia instead... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTXJHBQVAGk

Hi, PD! I'm so happy you've listened to this incredible album, and all the next albums are even greater, with each one bringing so much musicality and talent. I always adored how one moment he is singing something like Hallelujah or Crazy, and then the next moment he sings about cockroaches and how he's envious about them being in love (he legit has a song about it on his Story Op.2 - it's called "Where Are You", and it's a secret CD-only song, so you can find it on YouTube). I actually don't remember my first reaction to Base, but I LOVED since the first time I heard it Hallelujah - I think it's in Top-5 of my favorite Jjong songs. While loving this EP and both studio albums, I love the two Story Op. albums the most. They are so personal, so beautiful, so different from each other. He used a lot of inspiration from stories people sent to his radio, Blue Night, but also wrote about himself. Jjong also used a lot of songs in his novel, Skeleton Flower (which is also my favourite song EVER and was initially written by him as an idea for a drama soundtrack). As a storyteller, he also specifically placed songs in She Is in such a way that it shows a story of falling in love and marrying someone. Also, as you've seen, most of his songs are composed by him and Wefreaky - the latter is actually his composing group consisting of his friends. If I'm not mistaken, they are long-time friends since high school. I must say, while I do understand that we inevitably think of Jjong's passing, I'm also so freaking happy to see his music being listened to, his talent being acknowledged and celebrated, and his words touching hearts. So thank you, PD, truly, for making me so freaking happy by this Listening Party, and here's for many more!

Whenever Patreon’s posting issue gets fixed and I can upload She Is—what you said about it I get into and it’s SUCH a blast of an album

Form of Therapy

Based off my LP for SHE IS—dude was going through the angst of feeling hot and bothered

Gleice Couto

Yeah, MONO-drama is THAT song.

JT

yea they’re lil shyts 😂 even the choreo to poet artists have a lot of “jjong movements” that they included to mock him (lovingly) lol

Flossie

Seconding the bit about Where are you (바퀴), that's hilarious

This and the She Is videos are gonna be my rewards for finishing the workday!! Yay so excited!! Listening to this it's interesting how many features he actually had on this first mini cause he didn't have too many afterwards. They're all great in their own ways tho. Crazy (guilty Pleasure) and She Is have music videos btw! If you wanna do a reaction to those or simply enjoy them in your own time!

Thank you so much for this. I realized it's been a really long time since I truly listened to Jonghyun. I always play his songs here and there in my daily life, and I love when spotify sneaks one in while I'm listening to any of the other SHINee members’ solo work. But sitting down and really listening again brought back so many emotions all at once. I’ve always known how incredible his work and artistry are, but I’m truly grateful to be able to experience it again with your LP. It honestly felt so special. I'm just so happy to see you enjoying his music, and I really hope more people keep discovering his talent in the future! Taemin’s words about how Jonghyun could have created so many more beautiful songs really resonated with me.I’m always afraid of becoming too used to his music and losing that feeling of discovery. So getting to revisit this album with you made it feel new again. We know he worked on so many demos and productions that we might never get to hear… but just knowing they exist brings me comfort. That’s why Poet Artist feels so incredibly special, such a beautiful gift. My favorite track on this album is definitely Hallelujah. I think it's one of my favorite Jonghyun songs ever. I can’t wait to listen to the rest of his albums with you!

SpacedOut Vy

Hallelujah is also my favorite song on this album!!! I get goose bumps every time I listen to it

WiseSmellyLegs

I feel like I heard the album, when it was released, but I have not replayed it until now with you! And during listening to this, I want to ask you to re-listening here with us even the TaeMin/anyone else’s albums you have heard or you accidentally skipped like the Key’s repackage, because this made me ask a question: “If he was alive, would have his solo been bigger than TaeMin’s?” TaeMin’s solo is definitely the most “mainstream Kpop friendly”, but here I felt like JongHyun manages to keep his artistic style and blends it with the Kpop friendly aspects so well! Like… during this Shinee journey of yours I think about each solo not just for that member, but also what kind of push forward and impact it had or might have for Shinee and in JongHyun’s case, I have to say Shinee would have been even bigger. Their Hard album would have gone even Harder with him on it and so they would have had to make a repackage The Hardest

Tia

I remember when this album was released and how I listened to it so much that year! I still listen to it a lot, especially "Hallelujah." Jonghyun's voice, songwriting, and producing style will always be one of my favorite in kpop.

Karla

It’s been a while since the last time I listened to this album. I had forgotten how good it is! My Jjong, we miss you so much, but you’re always with us through your art.

S Kapdi

Hallelujah has always been my fave off Base and even goes so well with the dance. I can picture it even while listening.

K-Lawyer

I put off listening to SHINee solo albums at first because I was so head over heels in love with SHInee’s sound I didn’t want to listen to solo work, but when I finally gave this a listen, it was an absolute revelation. It’s more my vibe than any other soloist even though Onew is my bias and Key is my wrecker and I love their solo work (and of course Taemin and Minho’s) deeply, but Jonghyun is my musical soulmate in every way. I loved watching you react properly to every moment of every song on this album. It was incredibly satisfying.

Robin Harris

Wefreaky is a songwriting team, that included Jonghyun and two to four others that began in school.

Truly a legend, no debut album has ever been this curated I fear. Hallelujah is a fan favourite for a reason, the coreography is also worth checking out! And for sure, if you ever feel like it, please check out live stages, if his songs are good here they just get to another level by hearing them live, not only Jjong's vocals are immaculate but his whole stage persona is, it is truly worth checking out (even if it's not for a reaction, just for you own enjoyment!). Thank you so much for the SHINee reactions, it is always a pleasure to see other people become their fan, it is heartwarming to think that even this late into their careers they still attract new fans <3

I'm not a regular subscriber, but I always come back whenever there's a new SHINee drop—and I was especially excited for Jonghyun’s albums. Jonghyun is my favorite solo artist in K-pop and beyond, period. I listen to his music pretty much daily, so some of the songs don’t necessarily hit me the same way they did in the past, but watching this with you made me re-experience the emotional rollercoaster that is his music. We totally agreed on the top three songs on the album. I just love tracks where Jonghyun belts the f*** out—like in "Hallelujah" and "MONO-Drama"—it feels so powerful and liberating. "Hallelujah" quite literally takes me to church, and unlike a real church, it’s one I never want to leave. It’s funny how "MONO-Drama" is so emotionally intense lyrically and vocally, but then the beat is this 2000s-style classic R&B pop banger—you can’t help but body roll to it. Or, as I like to call it, twerking through tears (lmao). Lastly, "NEON" is just such a Jonghyun song. I'm convinced no one else could ever recreate a sound quite like it—it’s so distinctly him, and I love it for that. By the way, Deez also worked with Jonghyun on "Aurora" from She Is, as well as Poet | Artist! Jonghyun once said that "Aurora" was kind of a "NEON 2.0" that he and Deez wanted to recreate in a slightly less chaotic fashion. Thank you so much for your continued support and reactions to SHINee, PD! Can’t wait for the She Is reaction!

Also, as someone already mentioned, there's a hidden physical album-only track called "Fortune Cookie." I think even some fans might not know about it, but it actually has a little MV made by Mnet! (I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone react to it, so it would be really cool to see!) Fortune Cookie MV: https://youtu.be/q9CjXKisv-s I’ll also leave some other videos associated with this album down below, in case you’d like to react to them or just watch in your own time: Crazy (Guilty Pleasure) MV: https://youtu.be/6yIDkbbdOoE Déjà-Boo MV (Showcase Stage): https://youtu.be/TcvDR5xz97g Hallelujah Dance Practice: https://youtu.be/hNqlFPlNErE Hallelujah Live Stage: https://youtu.be/Au58CXP14Hg MONO-Drama Live Performance (with female dancer): https://youtu.be/WPKEQzUwP58 MONO-Drama with live band instrumental (I actually love this version even more than the studio one): https://youtu.be/VdxVpbj4dmM NEON Live Performance: https://youtu.be/4ZyLrtmxD0U Picnic Live (a little BASE showcase where he performed Beautiful Tonight, Love Belt with Younha, Déjà-Boo with Zion.T, and Crazy, as well as a cover of Maxwell's This Woman's Work which was amazing too): https://youtu.be/BWSO-kgwrHI Déjà-Boo Radio Performance (his radio stages always go hard): https://youtu.be/BR93BDSlsXI Crazy at SHINee World 2016 in Tokyo Dome: https://youtu.be/fAyCMxCqj6w Juliette + Crazy: https://youtu.be/7chnSxtPfIo

PD I'm so grateful that you decided to dive into SHINee's discography and especially Jonghyun's solo albums, he was and still is an incredible artist and his music should continue to reach people🥺 Oh and I'm sure you would love She Is allbum, it's an incredible album also

🐣 marisol 🌻

In the first years of getting into kpop this album was one of my FAVES, I wasn't even a Shinee stan but the way I listened to these tracks on loop 😍.

orion_is_tired

Mono-Drama is exactly what I mean when I tell people I love a sad bop. One of my top faves by jjong for sure.

Hi PD! I've been a YT subscriber for years now, but recently I've noticed (and heard you say) that you've been in a ride rediscovering SHINee discography. That's it I said, I'm paying. Lol. But that's besides the point. I just wanted to tell you that I've discovered through out the years, that SHINee comes to us in the moment we need it more. Back in 2014 I was literally on the verge of collapse, physically drained, emotionally damaged. Then, I met my best friend and she was like 'hey I like this kpop group!' And that was it. I was bewitched. Oh how I love SHINee. Of all of them, Jonghyun musicality and talent got my interest the most let's say but, believe me, I stayed for his soul. 2017 was the worst year of my life but I promised myself that I would live the life he couldn't. I've tattooed his name and his words on my skin and kept on going and going trough days, months, years. 8 years this year. His music saved my life, so I'm happy to see him bring inspiration to other people's lives until this day. Sorry if my English isn't that good, it's my 2nd language 😂 Thank you for your honest and raw reactions. I'm supporting you always ♡

I’m very picky about the groups I follow/collect albums from. I put all the members of SHINee,but especially Jonghyun, in at the same level as some of my favourite artists of all time; Queen (Freddies line up) & George Michael. Jonghyun was an amazing man, mind, body & soul.

Ugne Jablonskyte

I haven't listened to jonghyun's music for so long, so relistening to his albums with you feels like I'm experiencing these songs for the first time and maan this feeling is so amazing. But hallelujah is definitely the one that has been stuck in my brain all these years because the moment you posted this listening party that hallelujah chorus immediately started to play in my head. This is just how much this song hits...

Penn

I JUST SAW THESE OMGGGGG...GONNA BINGE HEHE (Jonghyun is my ult shinee bias🥺)

Maria Shawol

Fun fact : Jonghyun actually had some benign growths called throat nodules! That very fact made his voical technique and color the way it was! You can literally hear him switching from head voice to chest voice, from falcettos to vibratos easily because of that fact!

Lee

'Love Belt' is my favorite Jonghyun song after 'I'm Sorry.' It's literally ethereal. I totally agree about him having a unique sense of rhythm. Jonghyun sings as if telling a story, and another artist who does this is Sam Kim, who I think you would love.

Ominarty

I'm surprised you didn't make mention of the nasty electric guitar riff in Hallelujah! What an amazing track 💕
