Before I watch the video just wanna share that Hybe×Geffen is making another girlgroup (not sure if it's another survival show but seems like it.) So far Emily is the only one to be announced but there has been hints that Ezrela will join as well. I genuinely don't know what to feel about this because as much as I'd like to see them debut it seems a bit too soon to debut another group let alone a new gg. Even with kpop it usually takes 3 years and normally a gg would be followed by a bg and so on to give the group more time for exposure.

I think "Like That" by Doja Cat isn't the best song to practice tbh, very soft vocals and not much feeling to it. Seems a bit odd to me to choose that song (unless it is a song produced by Geffen themselves)

My question is why Jay (Korean-American producer) and Bang PD are speaking english to each other, I looked it up and Jay graduated from a university in Seoul so I guess she understands Korean. I guess it might be for the American people in the room, but they could just translate afterwards right?

Honestly, this is no hate, but I feel like Bang PD doesn't even care about his groups that much after they bring in the money. He is there when they debut to show everyone what he has created, and then forgets about them at all. I mean, what was the last time you have seen him in anything BTS, TXT, SEVENTEEN, BND, TWS, LESSERAFFIM, ... related?

Lara is also my bias and the moment I heard her voice I immediately fell in love with her. She just have this idol/pop star aura and plus her incredible voice, her personality and her amazing face card she’s just perfect.

If you’re interested and have a chance, I would totally recommend checking out Adela’s debut EP that just came out, The Provocateur, on your own time! Each song she released grew on me more and quicker than the last, and I love the choreography in the music videos! (Plus, she has pink hair and bleached brows a la Lady Gaga in her Chromatica era, so you know it’s SERIOUS BUSINESS)

To make it clear… it is not purely Geffen’s but under the joint venture between HYBE America and Universal Music Group/Geffen, which is called Hybe UMG (if I remember correct). Also… is Emily one of the fixed members? They said there will be the show aired in Japan to find the last member for the group, which has already been formed. But I got confused if Emily is announced as one of the fixed members or if she is one of the contestants (because I assume the show will be involving only a few contestants, since only one person is going to make it).

I feel like the girls who didn’t take this entire situation seriously. Got cut in the eyes of HYBE. The girls who didn’t say much, or took the issue seriously got more favouritism, screentime and focus. I’ve only noticed it now, rewatching it with PD and hearing their comment about never risking your career over NDA. I assume the girls involved all got mentally cut by them. And naisha got the “sacrifice” to scare the other girls. They’re also looking at them and their personalities, if you don’t follow rules, they won’t pick you.

He is pretty close with bts and txt. You can see him in their concerts and also in the credits for their songs. And the others group he isn’t a producer to them, those groups belong to the other hybe subsidiaries and not to bighit, so he really doesn’t have a relationship with them, except for le sserafim.

THEE introduction of Lara-- always gets me I was rooting for Naisha, but then i watch her meeting with Missy.. like... girl why would you ss your followers if you have nothing to prove? Then Dani asked 'Did you?' I got suspicious :D If it was only girls from the program, they wouldnt eliminate a promising trainee. They picked Naisha to record in studio. She's great at dance & singing. Such a waste.

May I ask English native speakers here… do you hear any accent, when Adéla is speaking? Czech and Slovak people have really similar accent, when we speak English. I mean even if you hear really fluent person speaking. But in her case I only once noticed the accent there, but I am not an English native speaker, so my ear does not recognize someone is not native as clearly as a native would

Although Sophia is not Korean, she has the Korean Korean mindset for a leader, which is necessary for these “not East Asian based Kpop groups”. Like when NCT Hollywood was going to happen, my mind thought: “They better place Mark as the leader of this unit…” And Sophia is like Mark of this group.

I totally agree with you about the thing of them breaking the rules. But in my opinion they shouldn’t have let them have their official account either. I get they used it to promote the whole process and to see who is popular. But it just confuses your mind. Like… that is the reason why contestants in the actual survival shows deactive their profiles and that is it. Although… sure… at this point of the timeline Dream Academy had not started yet, so they just let them have their official accounts “activated” but not regularly active, so it does not feel like the girls went missing all of sudden from their daily lives. But even that is… I don’t know… when a trainee enters a label, their account is deactivated. It is actually one of the ways to find out if the person joined any label or not. And there was a reason why second generation idols were not allowed to even HAVE phones or have them while they were training/for pretty much the whole day expect of night to say good night to their parents. Long story short… the girls did sign that and they did break that, so there is no excuse. But the way HYBE UMG takes care and thinks about this is dumb in the first place and them forming a group of global people and not Korean Koreans is one hell of an indicator they should pay attention to these things, which are not obvious to the girls. Then the next thing… I heard that they wanted to get rid off Naisha, but they could not eliminate her just for “not fitting the vision”, since the vision had not been decided yet + there were other girls with less talent and skills, so that would not work either. So they used this opportunity to make her leave and the followers thing might have been made up OR another contestant had outside the building followers and they said it was her. Also… as far as I know instagram might recommend your “another profile” if you only sign out, because you have to remove your first profile and delete that app and download it again and then sign in to the new profile and maybe even use VPN. Meta got really serious about this in the recent years, because when you block a profile, there is an option of blocking all connected accounts and people would just sign out and remove the profile, so their next account would not get connected to the first one and did not get blocked too. And so Meta made the app remember. Sheesh… social media just make things complicated and if you are taking care of young girls and you want to have their career and public point of view to them under your command, you have to ban it for good. Not: “You can have this profile, but you cannot have this”…

1:03:10 - The fast of women having the fashion option and sisterhood is the thing I hate about being a boy, I mean male… 😅😅 But on the other hand I cannot imagine having period. Like you have to plan things with that in mind and I am already kind of moody and sensitive weather and atmosphere, so to bring period into the game… damm… that would be crazy. Although it must be beautiful to give birth to your child! Which then leads to the biggest struggle about being a woman… The whole case of males being predators and so women have to worry about themselve WAY MORE. I mean… although I am a guy, I got attacked and I am kind of an eady target because I am kind of small (compared to other guys here) (I am 172cm…) and I only got attacked physically, not sexually… I do not know why I got into this topic this deeply 😅😅 I just want to say I respect women for these reasons and although I can imagine myself enjoying being a woman, at the end of it all I would still prefer to be a guy in the “long run” 😅😅

I watched Pop Star Academy maybe a few months (?) ago when Gnarly was just beginning to be teased, without knowing any of the discourse or opinions about the show, and I was really curious to see people’s opinions of Naisha here! On the one hand, I’m always inclined to believe the individual over the large corporation, especially since it seemed like she wasn’t even given a chance to defend herself. It easily could’ve been an excuse to eliminate her or to make an example out of someone for the incident. However, I also understand being a teenage girl getting scolded for something that was (probably) an accident and wanting so desperately to defend yourself instead of taking accountability. I don’t know who to believe, but it definitely feels like she was made an example of for something they all participated in (which is an extra bad look for the company since she was one of only two black girls there). It also does seem like they didn’t account for the cultural differences around technology usage/rules/rule breaking??

To me, she hardly has an accent when she speaks English. English isn't my mother tongue, but it is the language that I was raised in and surrounded by my entire life. I can usually hear accents almost immediately but she has a very Americanized way of speaking English.

i really hope you react to their performances when they come up in the episodes because they only show the behind the scenes and i feel like it won't make sense for you to watch them on the set of the performance without actually watching it

Honestly, if she had additional followers or not, posting an original song online is grounds enough for elimination in my mind. Which is sad because I really like her but for someone who wanted it so much its crazy that she would risk it all by doing that. I also have a problem with people not taking accountability of their actions, she said she was mad and frustrated but we never saw her say sorry but instead just argue with Missy. I understand being scared and worked up but there is a maturity in admitting your mistakes. She could have maintained a working relationship with them had she apologized but i wouldn't be surprised if they wouldn't consider her for a new group because she didnt take accountability... (of course she could have but it wasnt shown, I can only go off of what I see)

Just wanna share that during your ep 2 reaction when you said you had no idea why Emily didn't debut despite being very talented I had a theory as to why and it's tied with Lexie but I didn't wanna share anything yet because it might be a spoiler but seeing the line up right now for prelude really does prove my point and if Ezrela actually join this group then that will solidify it. I definitely think Lexie is Hybe's favorite and Geffen seems to really like her as well and wanted her to debut and adding Emily and Ezrela in that group makes so much sense to me height wise and visual wise because they compliment each other. If she was able to debut in Katseye half of the members who are in the group would probably not even make it (I don't have any specific members in mind I just think that they would want to choose members that would really compliment one another.) The only problem for Ezrela is that Lara is in the show and you know that both Hybe and Geffen loves her as well so it just makes sense to me that they would also bring her back this time. This also applies to Samara. Unfortunately, her debuting in this group is probably not the best move for them.

The rule-breaking thing is a HUGE no-no in Asian culture, so I'm not surprised it's something that creates tension when this Korean survival show format is being brought to the Western side with predominantly Western-raised girls.
