Gotta admit, I remember more from the first Teen Beach movie than the second, but I still think the second is good (probably doesn’t outrank the first, but still worth watching). Anyone can agree to disagree but I think it should still be given a chance and not be marked off for being the second

5:40:33 Starstruck is personally one of my favorite DCOMs, but i understand why it was just okay to you! i'm glad you were able to appreciate Sterling's acting though bc i do love the characters he tends to play (like from this and in Sonny With a Chance). :')

I'm as pasty as they come but I've started noting whenever there's a tropey one dimensional POC character (bonus points if they're the bestie of a white character). So for example, for anyone remotely Asian that would mean they'll be artsy and rebellious (weird how often they'll give off manic pixie dream girl vibes... Idk, maybe I'm reading into it too much but it's giving *fetishization* OH AND THE DYED STREAK OF HAIR??) against their super strict Asian parents and for black peeps it's usually that they're funny, loud and "quirky" for the lack of a better word...

as an asian myself (southern asian) I havent really clocked that as a common one dimensional trope for asian characters. Was it in other movies during that time?

I recommend looking up the "hairstreak Asian trope" online, plenty of great articles that I feel would do a far better job at explaining the depth which this trope and stereotypes go down to. Basically same boat as the manic pixie dream girl, but strictly with Asian (mainly Southeast Asian) female characters. Maybe could apply to males too, I'm not too sure. As for the characters from movies that come to mind off the top of my head would be Jade from the Bratz live action movie (guilty pleasure lmao, it's so bad but the nostalgia is real), GoGo Tomago from Big Hero 6 (although in this one we don't know what her parents are like, and she's clearly smart as hell butttt also she could be seen as sort of a rebellious character just based on how she's presented with this "tough girl" trope, with the coloured streak of hair that is literally an industry standard to signify a "rebellious Asian" character, lol. And why is the streak almost always purple or blue???) Not a movie but Tina Cohen-Chang from Glee also sort of falls into this trope, too. Plus the whole deal with her being fairly one-dimensional in comparison to the white characters. Ms Marvel/Kamala Khan could also technically fit the description of a trope-y rebellious South/Central Asian character, she just doesn't have the dyed streak haha Now, obviously not all cases where the character tries to subvert expectations that may be put on them is automatically bad writing, but a lot of them could definitely have more depth. And maybe ditch the dyed streak of hair.

i can’t wait for you to know more about ross lynch. he was my times zac efron. he’s so talented ! he sings, dances and acts he’s literally an all rounder. i loved him on austin and ally, i grew up with that and then tbm. and his newer projects was him playing jeffrey dahmer and in chilling adventures of sabrina. iconic. he’s in a duo group rn with his brother called the driver era which is doing pretty well. he’s pretty famous id say tho, he was featured in troye sivan’s mv: one of your girls, and it went so viral. definition of heartthrob tbh. love himmm

I've been dying to watch lemonade mouth since Disney Channel banished from my TV channels almost as soon as it appeared in CIS countries overthrowing jetix. I only knew she's so gone and determinate but couldn't get myself to sit and watch it for years. Appreciate this, PD

BTW, the day when Jetix turned into Disney Channel Russia ( what we got in Kazakhstan) HSM1 was supposed to premiere. They were teasing us for at least a month. Halfway through the movie, on that blissful summer day, I was glued to the screen, and the broadcasting stopped abruptly saying that my cable TV provider didn't aquire the rights to broadcast Disney Channel. I legit cried. Had to pirate the movie a couple of years later when I got a PC.

I also remember my older sister (cousin) had a PC and the best home internet plan, so she invited me to sleepovers and showed me movies we couldn't watch otherwise including camp rock and princess protection program. 😭 nostalgia is different for everyone i guess

Watching this in parts so not sure on your stance with camp rock but I think camp rock songs are hands down some of the best and on par with high school musical. Seconds descendants is actually really good. I love that one too. At least the first. Second is ok. Third is meh. But same as high school musical. Lastly zombies.. I hate that movie so much but could not stop watching. Oddly enough in that one the second is the best. Second I think watching all 2010 dcoms as an adult is cringe. Lol they don’t hold down as well as the ones prior. My faves like cheeta girls and zenon, Johnny tsunami lmao don’t judge me. Haha

Also Rags is the best and a must. Of all the movies Rags is number 1! Rags stars Keke Palmer and Max Schneider. Or better known as “Max” he also co-wrote a bunch of BTS songs and sings Lights down low.
