I would love to see you to react to the bii-p promotional stages!! And the mv! They did a whole promo run for it! The outfits and performance really bring it all together and it's some of my favorite looks they've done

FroggyMuds

Also in regards to the discussion of their concept and queer art at 28min, wumuti and rui recently did an interview on hong seok cheon's more serious podcast. They discussed more of what that means to them personally and how it relates to their concept and music! It's a bit long for a bonus drop but I recommend checking it out on your own!

pip pop

yay thank you for reacting to it i was realllyyy looking forward to your opinion on the EP :) glad u liked it

I love this album sm i had to buy it though im very selective with the albums i buy. It pefrectly show a variety of concepts that xlov can pull off. Vocals are immaculate, some of the best we have in kpop imo especially Hyun for me. Also, idk u would be interested but Biiii:-p has live stages if u ever wanna watch even if in ur own time! From what i know, wumuti kinda put the group together with rui and haru who he met on Boys planet and hyun who he was aquainted with. As to their individual backstories, im not too sure cus im a very new fan. An interview that rui and wumuti did on Hong Seok Cheon's channel dives a bit into Wumuti and his childhood and why he wanted to do the genderless concept and how he asked the members to join which was really interesting, highly recommend!

wumuti was bouncing around agencies and came pretty close to debuting multiple times but he said it never felt right, that he was being put into a role by the companies that didn’t fit him. he knew haru and rui from boys’ planet and hyun from somewhere else (can’t remember if they’ve said) and asked all of them to form a group with him! rui especially has expressed gratitude to muti several times for choosing him, and he’s also talked about his childhood where he was made fun of for being too feminine etc. they’ve been really vocal about how the “genderless” thing isn’t just about a concept or how they look, and they definitely understand the significance of what they say and how they portray themselves. they’ve been selling crazy good and doing numbers on all kinds of charts, but they’ve been shoved aside by a lot of the broadcast networks (sbs censored them for the word “boy” lol) and weren’t invited to any award or year-end shows, which prob wouldn’t have happened with their numbers if they were a “traditional” boy group. i just hope they see how much the fans love them and keep doing what they’re passionate about, instead of conforming to what the big companies and media wants!

I definitely understand what you're saying but I feel like a lot of people call the group queer because they very much involve themselves within the queer culture and community. For the this most recent comeback's showcase they invited hong seok cheon and Nana (that famous Korean drag queen) who both went; Wumiti & Rui had like an hour long interview on hong seok cheon's show (not the jeweley box one but the more serious one) where Wumuti brings up speculation about their genders and sexualities and how it's the members' individual decision and right to reveal or not reveal that kind of thing; Members have stated they don't care what pronouns they're called cause they don't considered it an issue whatsoever; Wumuti has talked on fan calls and at concerts about how he and the members want their group to be a safe space for lgbt+ people and just anyone to be themselves. While I agree people shouldn't theorize or speculate about specifics, I don't think it's inaccurate to call the group queer or at least culturally queer. Especially when they go out of their way to associate themselves with the community

Wumuti and Hyun met about 7 years ago at an ice cream shop via a mutual friend, then ended up reconnecting later when they ended up training at a company together. Like Wumuti, Hyun has trained for years but has never been able to debut, which Wumui knew upset him, so he chose Hyun for the group so he could finally debut as well, plus Hyun fits Wumuti's concept vision well.

yess thank you!! was it Hyun who said he had given up on his dream to be an idol or is it someone else im thinking of? 😭

Ebony Coco

Wumuti planned XLOV's concept for about two years. When he went on Boys Planet, he met and got close to Ruib and Haru. (Haru from Team G Love Me Right in the first round, and Rui, possibly from Zhang Hao, who has been friends with Rui for years and is not very close to Wumuti as well). After Boys Planet, Wumuti called Rui and told him about his concept idea and asked him to join. Rui was a little skeptical but ultimately said yes. Wumuti also asked Haru, who is like a son to him (Haru calls Wumuti mom and has to specify when he's talking about his actual mom or Wumuti because of how often he does), and Haru was in as well. Hyun has been trying to debut for years, which he's talked to Wumuti about and expressed sadness over, so when Wumuti was sure he was making his own group, Hyun was a definite for him as well. Hyun also was a little unsure about the concept at first, but like Rui, ultimately decided to trust Wumuti and join. They did not think they were going to be as successful as they've ended up being. ( Their Spotify monthly listeners, for example surpasses every other post BP group, including ZB1, and some other Big 4 5th gen groups as well.) They also thought they were going to get a lot of hate (which they have), but the love they've gotten has been far more, especially from their peers in the industry, who they've said are kind to them backstage and are eager to do challenges with them. In a ment during one of their concerts (which sell out like crazy because their company severely underestimated their popularity), Wumuti broke down talking about his happy and thankful they are to finally be able to be themselves and get so much love and support for it. (They really really thought the reaction they'd get when debut was going to be way worse than it was. They've expressed on multiple platforms how scared they were and how they cried about it.)

kasey

you HAVEEEE to watch the live stages for Biii:-p

So, PD, there are some facts u may like to know. Wumuti created XLOV inspired by Rui; he wanted to create a safe space for both of them and that could resonate with their experiences in life and that could really embrace who they are, Hyun and Haru were also friend with them so he probably called them for the same reason (besides being perfect for the group based on skills). Wumuti has said we don’t know their gender identities nor sexuality, and we’ll only know if they ever share, so i don’t personally consider them cisgender men just bc i don’t want assume, but thats okay if you do, i’m not judging. They accept any pronouns, have made their company accept social names for the trans fans, and have participated of LGBT parades before, besides having a relationship with queer k-pop artists like Holland, NANA, Hong Seok Cheon… In my opinion they are revolutionary bc they curate, create, and perform queer art in South Korea, and thats enough for me. Even if they don’t get to places like illit and Babymonster, they did a wonderful job bringing hope for queer K-pop stans and queer asian people

Just screamed FINALLY into the void lmaooo. Xlov are THE monster rookies of 2025 no competition. Need them to work together with Junny again!!

Pearl

Taking this moment again to confirm that YES Xlov is actually very queer. Not just vibes. The members strictly go by any pronouns. They're not a boy group. They're truly a genderless group. And all their songs are about the queer experience as well. Highly recommend watching pretty much any of their interviews when you feel down, they're so so so encouraging about being your own unique self.

Pearl

Watching Biii:-P (and Rizz) live stages is a need ngl. Raw vocals, unique outfits every time and captivating aura! You'd have soooooo much fun

Ebony Coco

Hyun has said it as well, iirc.

I think one of the reasons people love xlov (beyond the obvious) is because they bring a sense of “authenticity” that kpop has been lacking, at least for me. Genuinely seems like a longtime, very personal project that they want to do, that every song of theirs is a expression of themselves, and that they each believe in each other and the concept fully. It’s so charming!

soapcap

Ever since I watched the Jewel Box interview… I really trust the vision for this group

soapcap

i really felt everything you said, especially as someone who used to stan OnlyOneOf. While it’s not hard to imagine that it may have been more than a concept to some of them, it always felt like a lot of their stuff was them going through the motions to appeal to fanservice. Their concept always took the forefront and while I liked watching it, it felt like watching actors in a movie. (saying this as someone who loves OOO! Not that they were “pretending” per se, but that you could pretty clearly see the members were not as collaborative with their company as XLOV.) I don’t know xlov personally & i feel like I have every right to be wary of queerness packaged in kpop groups, but it feels lik xlov are bringing THEMSELVES into every comeback, and that we will see a fuller and more realized vision as the group gets more and more confident.

soapcap

main difference to me: OOO= concept focused group, XLOV=member focused group. xlov incorporates the members individual strengths and talents very intentionally

Hyuns part in the middle of Scent is just heaven

i'm so hyped you were able to listen to this!!! like genuinely, rizz is the worst song on this album- its not bad by any means, the chorus just isn't my favourite either- but every bside on here has gone on playlists for me. genuinely love this album, is a top album of the year for me along with mark tuan's new album and jane remover's revengeseekerz (two very different vibes, ik) oh, and f5ve's sequence1 as well! its so beautifully done, the songs really show off the vocals they have, and wumuti's writing is amazing here also, hearing ur comments abt biii:-p (ur right, it does sound like a girl group song), you should definitely check out a few biii:-p live stages- ill go grab a couple links to the best ones :) whether its to react or watch on ur own time should you be interested! but xlov is such an openly queer group (and genderqueer as well!) in a time where, for me, i think i really feared we were backsliding so hard, that to see a group be this free and unapologetic in an industry where i thought we might just never get to that point has really touched me and helped me see a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel i feel we are stuck in. the way wumuti talks about gender in interviews as well is incredibly interesting- i felt i had started to fall into this circle of "oh if i'm really genderqueer then on these masc/fem days i have to dress masc/fem to be valid, or i have to perform this gender in some way" and hearing wumuti talk about the way gender is often performed and how they want to step away from seeing clothes as attached to gender, even in the form of "oh i'm a boy in girls clothing isn't this subversive" and instead say "no, i'm a person wearing clothes that make me happy" (i also agree with you when it comes to calling people gay just bc theyre flamboyant- if thats what i thought was happening it would be very different! having watched a lot of content from xlov recently, these are people who, if they aren't queer, have immersed themselves so much in queer culture and communities that it almost doesn't matter. i don't know what flavour of queer they all are and i don't care either- they're doing something i didn't think possible in this industry (and i think its all thanks to wumuti's creative direction, tbh)) long personal paragraph but hey, openly queer group in kpop- it means a lot to my old gay heart!

Dani

I love to see you react to Jewery Box and the interview Rui and Wumuti did with Hong seok cheon! I really liked the interview since they got to talk about their conecpt and the background about the group. https://youtu.be/M9NIX2HQKcI?si=P-NJifFUFeG2y4Sg
