IMO i think all the flashback from Sunjae's POV happened even before Im Sol time travelling. It's just the drama choice to expose them in this way.

He was always going to recognize her. I believe that was a flash back from the original timeline showing what happened from his perspective. Prior to her waking up in the hospital. So everything after she woke up is what has or hasn’t change, but the photo shows her proof she can make some changes.

“He was always going to recognize her” 😭😭😭😭

I swore to myself I wouldn't watch anymore kdramas for a while, but I got hooked bc of PD, and binged the whole series after the 3rd episode in 3 days (RIP my work/sleep schedule and other commitments)😭, now came back to watch it with you

Genuinely you have no idea how loud I gasped at the start of this episode when the flashback revealed everything. I don’t know if they ever explicitly reveal as to why he was dealing with his mental health issues in the original and timeline #2 (i guess we can call her small change a new timeline), but it kind of implies that she believes that if she saves his swimming career, or prevents him from becoming a singer she’ll prevent him from going through all that. In reality my theory is that it appears that he developed those hardships because of her accident. She didn’t remember who saved her and he had to directly hear from the girl he liked that she blamed him for saving and subjecting her to her disability (and by association her mental struggle directly afterwards). There was no direct closure between them for that incident, and their last encounter before meeting 13 years later was just her screaming at him that she no longer wanted to live (because of him). I think the guilt he had from what happened to her snowballed into something that he couldn’t recover from. That possibly changes things from the audience’s perspective, because if that’s true, then we know that if Sol wants to save Sun Jae, she has to save herself from that accident.

I do like how different dramas deal with the logistics of time travel differently like you mentioned. This show is quite different from Twinkling Watermelon in the sense that there is only one physical body, and it’s just the “souls” that get switched back and forth, as opposed to Twinkling Watermelon where Eun Yoo could physically be in the same timeline as Se-Kyung. Another show that I think does a really good job of the “2 souls, 1 body” time travel is A Time Called You. That one you really get to see what happens to the soul of the “other person” when someone travels. It’s also a really good drama overall.

I'm sorry, why is no one talking about the crazy paradox she just created by saying the exact words he says to her in the future? The rules of time travel are always either 1) change the past and make a new future, or 2) the time travel was always meant to happen for things to develop the way they did. Is this a nerdy question? Do I need to write an essay on the time travel implications of Lovely Runner?
