I think I would watch there m2 like debut showcase they performed chains , formula , cinnamon shake & freak alarm ( during performance one part song the only play sound of song make like alarm sound going off with red lights .) at least during that one so idk if will do that with every performance during it .

Mere

I like both this and formula but I think this song works better because it is a little easier to listen to on a frequent basis and I think formula will get old a bit fast

Irving

I actually really love this song and this album and I enjoyed it better than formula. But different taste ig. I love that I saw everyone on the mv and the song, so good debut imo and excited for what's next.

I don’t actually dislike this song. It’s good for me. The thing is that is not worthy of a debut. Is not epic enough o unique if we can say that way. It’s pretty forgettable. Maybe as a bside would be better. Said that, the live performance is pretty good Also I don’t know anything about music videos, but it was mainly boring to me

Nova Amore

Will you be reacting to the other B-sides of the album?? I'm really curious about your thoughts on the other songs *oh wait, sorry I just finished watching till the end lmao😭 Cant wait to see your thoughts on teh b-sides!

cy

i don't think formula or freak alarm are inherently bad as songs but they're not unique and tailored to suit the members, which is needed to be competitive in 5th gen. to be fair wakeone really lowered my expectations through whatever they did with kep1er or zerobaseone so i wasn't disappointed LOL. with wakeone expanding into two divisions and having new leadership i hope they invest in recruiting people with a solid vision for this group because the talent is there but they really need to be supported with good artistry. i think the fault in survival show groups, especially planet/produce groups, is that they come with a ride or die audience who will stick through mediocre music, and the team producing this group have to work off a blank slate without being familiar with the members' strengths. that doesn't excuse the (lack of) vision though, just look at close your eyes. at least ald1's contract is 5+1 years so that's plenty of time for them to experiment and fumble a bit before getting their shit together 💔 for what it's worth reception to freak alarm seems quite positive(?) and wakeone has a track record of getting their act together music and identity-wise after the first few comebacks (that were likely pre-planned in advance). i quite like the bsides on this album though!! looking forward to hearing your thoughts on them and whether you think one of them should have been the title track instead because i've seen several comments echoing that sentiment. anyway their debut show performances were really good and probably one of the few that were prerecorded before arno fractured his leg :( so i hope you check them out!!! i think one aspect that wakeone really excelled at this time round was the sheer amount of pre-debut variety content - if you're interested you should definitely check out one dream forever and ald1ary!

Nathan

Definitely not my style, but I'm curious as to where they'll go from this, because I can see them doing better stuff. It's just unfortunate that I was on the fence about them as a group, and unfortunately this debut didn't necessarily push me into being more interested 😔

I actually like Freak Alarm better then Formula both are good and the mv I feel like I never know what's going on in a Kpop mv but I "theorized" that maybe their in a world thats an anomaly and that can be freaky so like idk maybe they have to figure out what's going on or something idk I usually just enjoy the visuals cause like I said I never know what's going on lol but you should check out their debut showcase.

i actually like this song and i do understand why this is the debut song rather than formula because it is easier to listen to specially to new fans ngl. i do agree xinlong stood out and as someone that has followed boystory for a long time he has done many and i say MANY types of songs that he knows how to incorporate himself and make himself stand out in various genres. I iwish they had used leo's voice better that is my main critic but i do appreciate hearing geonwoo's vocals in both songs which are very different from leo's. I am excited to see how both are used in a future comeback whether it is a title track or bside. i appreciate when mvs have a story but if they dont, i dont mind either since groups just do different stuff so that wasnt a low for me since I did appreciate that we were able to see each member have a pretty fair screen time which wakeone seems to not do everytime with these groups. For the survival show groups also before anyone knows who will be in it the debut song/sometimes album almost always wasnt just made for them but for the group not really taking into account who will be in it so I wont pin this as the sound for now but I guess we will see. It does look like it is a little nct like for me in experimental which i appreciate. Even though it gives a little 3rd gen being done now in 5th gen i think it does stand out a little since the other 5th gen boys groups arent doing this (ex: very different from zb1, bnd, cortis, tws, plave, riize, etc.) so i think there is a space for this in this gen if they continue which the formula/freak alarm kinda sound. However, I do hope they can be given more developed songs than freak alarm, idk if that makes sense. I do appreciate the bridges in both songs tho in a time where they are disappearing a bit. Also its wakeone so i dont expect much from them but seeing how this group will be about 5 years I do think we might see more sides to them musically than previous ones who had shorter contracts or at least i hope so in title tracks or bsides. They have given us a lot of content pre-debut so at least for now we can see wakeone is putting a little more into this one but this is my wishful thinking for the boys as they are so talented. Anyway i am curious to see your reactions to anything they do since i love your perspective on things i dont see. Also the performances are pretty good :)

Ebony Coco

What you said about groups doing trends vs having their own sound is something the members discussed in the 2nd episode of their show, One Dream Forever, when they had to choose between chasing trends vs developing their own sound, and a lot of the members chose following trends, at least at first, before taking the risk to develop their own sound. Personally, I like Freak Alarm way more than Formula, but I do wish they'd went with a more Chains-like concept than this, but I love RnB, so I'm biased.

Lilac Lavender

I like this so much more than formula, much easier the listen to. But i agree with some of your comments that people really did not get to play into their talent. It doesnt feel like a debut song but rather a b-side to promote with a title track. I'm hoping the ep will have more for us! Looking at the tracklist, i am excited....

Stars

I like freak alarm better cuz it had a more unpredictable song production and that is something I search for. I also understand what you mean by this not being a distinct sound for them but i think they incorporated their vocal strengths quite well here.

Alex

I actually liked the song, is not a banger, but i guess my expectations on this company are so low already, that my brain is like "this is not bad, its actually enjoyable for me, surprisingly" But this definitely does not look like a debut song, maybe a future comeback, but not a debut Plus the mv is super confusing, in that part with the ladders and the cabinets, at first i thought they were un a spaceship or something like that, the disappointment when I realized the mv was not heading this direction This would've been so much cooler if they were in a spaceship, and a emergency was happening, so the freak alarm actually represented the danger and they're trying to fix the spaceship or something Wasted creativity, but I liked the song

Wiktor

It’s an MNET debut song… I’m normally always disappointed or in love with their debut. Never an in between. Sadly this entire album and both songs were not a cup of my tea. This era is gonna be a hard pass for me personally. HOWEVER, I’m excited and hopeful their next comeback is better.

madi

this may be harsh but honestly freak alarm has me bored, theres nothing truly interesting enough about it that keeps me intrigued and wanting to keep listening. the song isnt bad by any means but its such a lukewarm debut it leaves me feeling like something is missing. i like formula so much better as a debut track, granted its not for everyone but to my ears it was a much more engaging to listen to.

winchesterlives

the songs are all so mid, i was legit mad listening to the album yesterday. the only song i was kinda expecting from the previews was raw flame and even that one was a let down. they should get FRANTS as a producer for the next album, he produced chains and has produced other songs that will fit ALD1 members sm more, idk why they are so adamant on KENZIE..

Sofia

it's not exactly my style but surprisingly i liked this song. and as i kept listening to it i liked it more and more

jerry

As someone who was quite satisfied with this debut, I would say I understand wakeone’s strategy of focusing more on a decent debut rather than taking a risk since they already tested waters with formula. Formula really did not get them the crowd they were looking for despite it being a good attempt at risking things and even making it work to some extent. From what I have seen so far with the album sales and the charts, freak alarm is doing them wonders considering most of the fandom was preparing to be flops especially since ald1 gets compared to zb1 alot. I believe it was more targeted towards the Korean audience or more trendy sound rather than a signature sound like formula which was more liked by the international audience, I think. Also, I do agree that the music video could have had a more focused on one topic approach. When it was announced that the director of Enhypen’s No doubt mv was directing this, I really set the bar kinda high. I also agree that it feels like they kinda just discarded the Tron concept for this debut which was really growing on me but again if you watch the previous raw flame films which they have been releasing as concept films for their debut, it kinda does make sense. But overall, I personally liked the balance of the album as a whole since it does have a variety of genres to listen to or maybe I’m just really biased towards these boys.

Sven Lenders

I’m not going to talk about the songs, but the issue I see with WakeOne in general. They really don’t have a distinctive sound or concept for any group, the only group that kinda did was IZ*ONE. I feel like they honestly aren’t the label that should debut these survival show groups, because they are so incapable of sticking to a certain sound/concept (I also don’t get why they were chosen as the label that debuts these groups, cuz as far as I know MMO didn’t have any groups before Kang Daniel debuted in Wanna One)

Etoile2004

i like a lot of the song, i think they have really nice singing. the bridge is my favourite part 🔥 i took the music video as it being the journey to debuting maybe? breaking free from the practice room and ending in that big venue. pressing start at the end to show their idol careers begin from now ?

Charlotte Singer

I loved freak alarm and think its so catchy! But i do see what you mean by it not having a distinctive sound for ALD1. i think the b-side Raw Flame has a lot more personality... I would've liked to see them take more risk for the debut, but this was more along the lines of what I expect from wakeoke.

kaya williams

I enjoyed both Formula and Freak Alarm, but I do understand where you are coming from. I will say that while I love Formula I understand why they chose Freak Alarm as the debut song. It’s more “safe” and more gp friendly. When it comes to Wakeone it seems like they usually play it safe with the debut and get more adventurous as time goes on. The other thing about this debut is that it seems like this song was chosen before the new creative team came in. They didn’t start until October so right after B2P ended. With the new CEO and creation of the “centers” ALD1 has a new creative team. If you look at the Raw Flame Films you can see the creative direction the team is going for but with the tight timeline between B2P ending and ALD1 debuting it seems the creative team just kept the debut album. I don’t think the music video has much direction either. It seems to just be aesthetics and just serve as a “start” for ALD1. I’m very curious for their first comeback because I want to see what vision this new creative team has for the group. As always, thanks for another great video! 💕

ashley

well the new ceo was an sm employee so she must've had a part on bringing the SM producers

lola le

i think it kind of has a distinctive sound, but i also just think its a banger lol. and its litteraly the debut....im just happy the have debutet, with a generell liked song

lola le

i dont really see that as a problem tho. its nice having different sounds. and its litteraly the debut (and a good song) i didnt follow izone, but i liked most of zb1 comebacks

lola le

thats youre opinion tho. i liked every song. and thought they were great, and fit.and mostly people i have seen like it as well. maybe there sound isnt for you

lola le

the generell public prefers freak alarm tho, and you want the debut to be public friendly. i personally wasnt bored at all with the song and love it personally

lola le

maybe theyre sound isnt gonna be for you then (the songs are so good) but its definitly a boygroup sound, that not everyone vibes with

lola le

there are a lot of mvs where i dont get whats going on in kpop lol. i personally just like seeing the members and the styling

lola le

i personally like kep1ers and zb1 music. i like the songs. i think freak alarm definitly showed the strengs of the members tho (just junseo could have had 1-2 more lines) i think freak alarm and this kind of have a sound.but its litteraly the beginnig. its almost impossible to have distinct sound in youre first album/song. but the songs are bangers tho

Sven Lenders

It’s not a bad thing, but a general sound shapes the image and legacy of a group.

Form of Therapy

Not very ”alpha“ to play it safe tho 😔 the power not being maxed

Alison Renaud

I like it! Its a fun song to debut with and I like it more than Formula. They just started so they're probably still finding their chemistry together as a group and their own style. Its not like they've had years training together like other groups have. Im not thinking too much about it since it is just their debut. We have 5 years to see where they're gonna take us and Im here for it!

Sadie

It's fascinating that my taste has changed so much over the years, because I would definitely eat up this debut 5 years ago. I wish they continued with a similar concept as ZB1 ;(

Form of Therapy

TBH I don’t think chemistry is the problem given what I saw on B2P.

Sadie

I came back to formally apologize as this song is kinda growing on me to be honest
