Totally agree with what u said PD! I really enjoyed this album and feel like it highlights them well as rapper that can also sing and I LOVEE all the beat choices! I also thought sexier could have been the title track and it's definitely my favorite song on the album! They definitely could have beefed it up a bit thrown a more extensive bridge rap verses to give it the title track energy. Would have done so well mainstream and was def a missed opportunity😭

I am just thinking… during SMRookies Jeno, Jaemin and Jisung were known as “that young trio”, I would always call them Triple J… And so, why didn’t SM include Jisung in this unit too? Mark, Haechan and Chenle have their solos (Chenle’s is Chinese market focused and just singles). Renjun is rumoured to have a solo this summer. And Jeno and Jaemin get their own unit, so Jisung is left out 😿😿 And Jisung on this would bring an interesting color to all of this for sure

When it comes to NCT, one may bet Dassah will be within the first commentors 😉🫱🏽‍🫲🏾💚

Ooo yeah totally agree with that However, it feels like SM was trying to cater to the market of people who go for the visuals of Dream with Jeno & Jaemin rather than thinking about the tones While I think personally Jisung could still fit in there I think mainstream-wise the marketing wouldn't have worked as well

I agree, but Jisung also hinted that he would release solo stuff soon, he said it while participating in the GBTTF (Go Back To The Future) promos. I THINK it was on the 'COME HERE' YouTube show from Super Junior D&E. Jisung was on there with Jeno; and Jeno never mentioned any unit at that time, so this was pre-stages of Jeno even being in a unit at all. But I do remember Jisung mentioning a solo (even if I get the place wrong, sorry, Jisung did mention a solo SOMEWHERE). And then later, Jaemin had mentioned the 'Jeno and Jaemin' unit during some fansign (and fans thought he was just being cute/not serious), and I was not aware of the unit news until I saw it somewhere else, fans shocked it was real and Jaemin wasn't being silly. So, I'm not shocked Jisung was not in this—with what Jaemin said. I -was- shocked there was a unit of Jeno and Jaemin since I didn't know about the fansign comments from Jaemin. Solid album. I said it in another comment. I never commented about the length, but that goes without saying: k*ll TikTok-length songs. "What It Is" reminds me of NCT U's "The 7th Sense" a bit, but sexier for the lyrics. I also read that Jaemin had to tone down the lyrics for them to be approved. So, we're in another case of 'artist writes overly sexy lyrics and gets smacked down by SM' aka Haechan and "Love Beyond", but Haechan's lyrics were outright rejected, so I guess Haechan didn't even push to rewrite (I don't blame him for not pushing, although his shrewdness would normally compel him to; he was already fighting SM for the title track). Either way, good job, Jaemin (and Haechan), you'll get to show your lyrics in the future more clearly. Hopefully. "sexier" almost felt like a DPR song. I'm thinking of "darling". Same type of dreamy, out-of-body feeling. AH, I just remembered: Jisung is doing some acting thing, so he may have not been able to participate. Which would make sense. Is it the second season of 'Crash'? Or something? I'll just mention I saw it on Soompi for the news.

Infamous bed-squeak sample in "Hashtag" (joining with NCT 127's "Baby Don't Like It" and EXO's "Tempo", countless other songs). "Wind Up" was also a short series Jaemin and Jeno were part of about baseball.

During their promotions, Jeno said that he was the one who came to Jaemin with the idea of doing a unit together while they were on tour and Jaemin then approached the company and started discussions about debuting their unit. I've also read somewhere that in a fansign late last year, Jisung talked about doing a solo release in 2026. So I assume that's why Jisung wasn't a part of this unit

I watched the recording behind the scenes for the both sides yesterday and their A&R team REALLY pushed Both Sides to be the title track. It was actually really interesting watching it. While I haven't watched all the recording behinds for NCT, out of the ones I have watched, I can't think of one where the SM team was so pushy about having them choose a specific song as the title track. Once the staff really started pushing it, Jaemin got pretty quiet; I think he knew there really wasn't going to be a choice. They dont really tell us the other song that was an option to be a title track. Jeno apparently didn't want sexier to be part of the album, but jaemin begged him to keep it so my guess is that's the main reason it wasnt really an option to be a title track. Also, jaemin wrote the lyrics for what it is, absolute king

100% agree with everything you said. Both sides was a very generic debut song that felt a little too poppy for me. And when you consider the overall direction of this album, it does not fit at all. The b-sides on this album have a more mature r&b vibe that suits them way more. Sexier or I.D.O.L easily could have been title tracks and their visuals would have suited the songs very well. But I will say, the MV for both sides had this playfulness to it that really matched Jaemin’s personality. Overall, when I heard that they were going to debut as a unit, I wasn’t sure what to expect from them. Let’s be honest, they’re not necessarily known for their rapping skills but more so their visuals and personalities. I personally don’t care for rap albums but especially idol rappers. Once I listened to the album teaser, it really piqued my interest and then after listening to the album, I actually enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. Somehow they managed to pull off the songs with more rap parts in it very well. It wasn’t cringe imo and the beat and melodies were very catchy. The b-sides on this album are really good so I’m finding it hard for me to pick a favorite. For now I think I’ll go with I.D.O.L but it’s subject to change lol

Sunny

totally agree!

Jeno and Jaemin are the most popular duo in Dream so it makes sense that it would be those two. Also like someone else said the unit was actually Jeno and Jaemin's idea :) I think Jisung could carry his own solo tbh!

Sexier would’ve been a great title track (it’s also the sound I think JNJM should lean into more) but Jeno had to be convinced by Jaemin for it to be on the album so I’m not sure if it would’ve been considered. I think IDOL is a great alternative title track choice. While I agree that both sides feels more generic and has less personality than the other songs, I understand why it was chosen. All in all I think this was a great debut and hints at what they’re really capable of as a duo. They do mirror other SM duos like donghae and eunhyuk or chanyeol and sehun but I think JNJM have the opportunity to be a lot more experimental with their sound. Looking forward to more from them!

I think Both Sides was a good fit with the theme of showcasing Jeno and Jaemin’s contrasting charms, and the lyrics of the verses were written with them in mind, but I agree it feels pretty separate from the other songs on the album, sonically speaking. Overall, I really enjoyed the album and loved hearing more of their vocal colors. I think this is a great introduction to them as a duo and they can really lean into the darker, seductive sound of some of the b-sides in future projects.

To me Both Sides is such a bad song that I didn’t wanted to hear the rest of the album. So I was pleasantly surprised of how good the bsides actually are. For me it was a wrong decision to choose that song as a title track.
