Is this the longest listening party I've ever done? Is this the most mind blowing awesome listening party I've ever done? This is one for the records.

I already know that this listening party is going to go down in history for me. I haven’t even started this video yet, but this is how exciting it is for me as a Shawol who was there from the moment their very first teaser dropped for their debut. This album is my entire personality and I’m so psyched to see your reaction. Cheers PD! I’ll hopefully be able to drop my thoughts after work. Thank you again for this SHINee journey!

WiseSmellyLegs

You know… if you are in the 12th minute of a video and PD is still commenting on the first song, then the listening party will be LONG!

Steven Rodriguez

My favorite album!!! Will watch after SHINee world V live on yt hehe❤️

Amanda Bourbonais

Wahhhh even just reading the tracklist... this is an insane album. Starting my listening party with you now! It might take me a few days to get through lol

beannie

This is my favorite album in Kpop, I’m so excited to watch this later!!

WiseSmellyLegs

You never heard of Why So Serious?? Huh… One of my entry Kpop hits I HAD ON FUCKING REPLAY!!

WiseSmellyLegs

Oh my god… how long will the commentary be? 3 songs left and there is whole hour left

Steven Rodriguez

I’m so you by the end of dynamite, that song is a SURGE of energy

WiseSmellyLegs

I sat here through the whole video, I only took a break to do some “Hange time” as they say… (to go to the bathroom…)

Agusttina Sol

I must say once again, and I can't stress this enough, ALL OF THIS SONGS ARE ABSOLUTELY CRAZY LIVE. Damn I was like "oh if he hears this live he's gonna lose his mind". I believe it was almost 10 years since I've heard Medusa II, this was an absolute delight. Thank you Pd. ♡ 'Everything just leads back to SHINee' YES. THEY'RE THE BLUEPRINT TO MODERN KPOP.

Agusttina Sol

Ps. I'm here after watching SWC V this morning (in my country lol) and after crying with that I'm crying here too. Send help. And tissues.

beannie

I’ll probably be spamming cause im gonna have to watch this video through out the day lol, but I wanna add to your discussion about shinees impact in kpop. First, I couldn’t agree more with everything you’ve said in the first 40 mins, once you dive deep into shinee, you start to realize how they have influenced SMs and many other groups sound, I truly think they are pioneers of experimental music in kpop. How they play with melodies over the craziest instrumentals you’ve ever heard lol, their beautiful vocal tones and creativity for delivery, UGH😭 truly a one in a million discovery for anyone in the music industry, the closest I’ve come to finding artists like them in kpop is f(x) and now, nmixx! Shinee will always be the best boy group out there for me, it’s not even up for discussion lol.

Fluffy_Chick

when I saw the lenght of your comment for only the first song of the album, I really can't wait until you react to their concert that the songs on this album are on a set list lol. they really are more fantastic when you listening to them LIVE. I think they've sang all of the songs on this album LIVE at least once, except Dangerous... *crying* and, of course you could hum Dream Girl hook! this song appeared on Sea of Hope! lol. but it's a rearrange version so it's not the exact same melody. Jinki sang this song with 10cm. and actually Sea of Hope had two songs from this album, another one is Selene 6.23 that Jinki sang with Sunwoo Jung-A. (Some TMI about the Selene 6.23 name, Jonghyun wrote this song inspired by Super Moon on 23 June 2013. the moon look closer that day yet still so far away, live up the Korean name "The Distance between you and I") FYI, about song lyric credit. most of the time when you saw Minho name on it, it's because he wrote the rap part in every songs himself. As for your question about concerts or albums react after the SWC 1 reaction, for me myself, it's really up to your interest at that time. because with all the albums that you've reacted so far, except for the japanese side, you already can continue watching the SWC 2 next.😂 you may not know some songs on the set list that are from "The First" japanese album though.

Laura Tillman

So happy you are continuing this journey! Can't wait to see your reaction to their first concert!

Fluffy_Chick

well, I don't know if you gonna react to their japanese concerts too or not. but i'm gonna add it just for your information. before SWC 2, they actually had concert tour in Japan named SHINee World 2012.

fullsunshine

the comparison to early EXO for Evil… I never put that together but it’s so true. No wonder it’s one of my favorite SHINee songs lol

Maria Shawol

Fun facts that I need you to read (sorry for being too much 😭) : 1. The art of the album is literally Kibum's! Kibum drew the cover! He also has other drawings that he has showcased in an exhibition in the past!!! https://em1793.wordpress.com/2011/04/19/keys-artwork-makes-a-debut-at-his-uncles-gallery/ 2. Spoiler was the song that opened the SW concert III and listed the songs of the concert because, you know, Jonghyun's a genius 😂 3. There are drafts of Selene 6.23 out there (which is the moon on the 23rd of June when he wrote it). You can easily find them on Google where you see the pages of Jonghyun's notes and how he was struggling to pick a name for the song (and even mentioning f(x) Luna) 😊 Jinki also sang Selene with Byul in Sea of Hope ❤️ 4. Dream Girl won nine times at music show awards and would keep on winning so they limited the amount of awards you could get per comeback because of it! 5. Runaway is the song that by tradition plays right before every SHINee World concert starts 🥰 6. Orgel is made to sound like a music box like you said and it's actually kind of a creepy song. Story is, a man so deeply obsessed with a woman that he turns her into a wax figure and places her inside a music box so she can spin and sing for him for eternity. I think it might be their darkest concept yet. 7. Shawols never listen to the studio versions of Like a fire and Excuse me miss. In the live versions they're insanely better because they added stuff, like for Excuse me miss the added and entire legendary bridge, look it up! The actual concerts we released as CD albums up to the 4th concert! You can easily find them! 8. In their lives, Evil is incredible because they literally dance to the entire first half of the song blindfolded! My heart wept every time you were wishing for a ballad because this is not the album for ballads 😅 Also today, 8 years ago, SHINee released Good evening! 😊 If you ever need to check things that are not online, just open my drive 😉 https://mega.nz/folder/xep20Yxb#74SAvDDG6yXUTFu0p4HBqg

YES I SAT THROUGH THE WHOLE 2 HOURS 34 MINUTES AND 18 SECONDS IN ONE GO. This is a legendary legendary album, I found SHINee in their 1 of 1 era (just as legendary) and kind of worked my way back and while I liked their latest music at the time, the Misconceptions of Us together with Everybody were the albums that really got me hooked. Back in 2016 this was only 3 years old (which is kind of crazy to think) so it didn't sound that old or anything, although now admittedly, especially certain songs, sound more of that era but only in the best way possible - as you said this IS the blueprint to much of what Kpop was back then and is today. I can't even pick my favorite songs because there's really not a single skip, but I have to say while I initially preferred the Misconceptions of You, the Misconceptions of Me later prevailed and is sligthly in the lead for me now. Yesss love the SHINe and Dangerous appreciation, both are very underrated actually. Like a Fire is one of my favorite SHINee songs period. Many iconic performances with these songs at SWC III, IV and V. I think you pretty much know all of the ones for SWC II already (except a couple from the debut Japanese album that you skipped) but for SWC III you'd need to listen to Boys Meet U (the 2nd full Japanese album) and Everybody EP first. Also, for every SWC in Korea there's an equivalent in Japan, for instance there's SHINee World 2012 before SWC II, SHINee World 2013 before SWC III etc., which will obviously feature more Japanese tracks.

I cried. I cried when you put the exact words on why I wasn’t moved by today’s Kpop music anymore. And I cried because honestly, it feels like I’ve lost the refuge I used to turn to to feel alive. Shinee will be my forever favourite for this exact reason. They make me feel alive. And it’s why I love Seventeen and TXT so much too. Thank you PD.

Lawol

I suppose you're EXO-L? What do you think about SHINee's Destination? It has always reminded me of EXO a little, perhaps something like El Dorado.

Callista

Ha! SHINee made you a ballad lover. Happens to the best of us.... The live version of Like A Fire will change your life! You definitely should watch the second concert right after the first. But before the third you should listen to the japanese albums, they sing quite a few of them at the third concert

Fang Striker

Im actually a latecomer to Kpop so I wasnt really know any SHINee song at first. But then back in 2024 I came across a video where NMIXX Lily and Sullyoon did a rendition of Dream Girl to steal the song and Onew had to defend it. Thats my first SHINee exposure and I completely fell into the SHINee rabbit hole and Dream Girl was the 1st song on my Spotify Wrapped that year.

A.R.R

“they put their heart into it when they sing” that is the all encompassing reason I love Shinee so much. They do so many genres but no matter what they give it their all and that’s why it sounds soooo good!!! I was so excited for you to get into this album, so many amazing tracks and so many flavors of their sound!! Hitchhiking, Shine, Aside.. DANGEROUS!! so so many good ones.. Runaway I can’t hear as anything but “shinee group and solo concert opening song” cause they use it for everything but it’s still fun. Glad you enjoyed it. Also fun fact! Key drew the cover art for this album I’m pretty sure.

Brennan Cho

Only at Hitchhiking but the Wow x5 at the intro and the bopping throughout the entire song (and the whole album now that I'm done)... SO relatable. GYADDamn at Like a Fire is also relatable but PD you HAVE to listen to that song live. edit: scratch that you need to listen to excuse me miss live edit: oh wait evil... you know what just watch the concerts and LOLL pd looking for ballads hahaha anyways pd thank you for giggling and kicking your feet with us. I've never felt more represented.

Lindsay

Been looking forward to your reaction to this album! I knew you'd love it. For the SHINee concerts, I recommend maybe doing the 1st and 2nd concert reactions, then doing Everybody mini album reaction, then the 3rd concert. That way, they'll sort of be in order with your album reactions. I think it would be more satisfying to do the album and concert reactions more in hand with each other so you can see not just their sound, but their performances evolve at the same time. Also for this reaction, as a Shawol who was active during this album's release, which was one of my favorite years as a fan, I thought I'd share some interesting facts about some of the songs: Aside - it's funny you mention this one sounding like an OST because it feels like it became SHINee's own personal OST lol it's a song I find that Korean TV uses often for transitions whenever SHINee appears on shows. Runaway - this is a song that, to this day, SHINee plays at their concerts right before they come out on stage. Selene 6.23 - Jonghyun actually publicly shared the handwritten notes he made when creating this song, which can still be found online. It was inspired by the super moon that occurred on 6/23/2013. International fans also associate this song with the distance between us and SHINee. Why So Serious? - Jonghyun isn't actually in the music video for this song because he had a car accident right before promos started and injured his nose. He was gone for almost the entire promotional cycle except for a few shows at the very end and Taemin covered most of his parts. Like a Fire - highly recommend checking out their live performance from SHINee World Concert III. The vocal adlibs in this live are so good. Excuse Me Miss - this song's live performance at SHINee World Concert IV is considered legendary among fans for its mirrored choreography and also Jonghyun's vocals during the new/special bridge.

liam

u r planning to react to concerts eventually right? as we get further into their discography it just keeps making me excited for shinee world iv that is my favorite concert of theirs by far. v is so good too aaaaaa there is so much good to come

EnzioAkira

This album is probably my favorite album ever and experiencing it being dropped for the first time was legendary. SHINee will forever be my number 1 group.

divs

2.5 hours? I’m surprised and but also not surprised!!

EnzioAkira

Highly, highly recommend watching their SHINee World V concert, as it's the one after this one came out, it's a legendary setlist, unbeatable performances, unbelievably funny. 10000% Worth it.

Emily Bainbridge

I concur with this assessment of how to watch the concerts in tandem with the albums

Maggie

I'm still in the middle of watching but omg i'm dying whenever you keep expecting a ballad and it's just. Not.

Judith HM

I swear Like a Fire is my favorite kpop song ever

A.R.R

I like this idea as well ^

Oro The Nymph

Omg I'll be back lol. ETA: I'm really going to enjoy your reactions to the concerts, especially this one.

Renee26

First time ever commenting, but as a long-time K-pop listener (24 years and counting!), I totally understand the feeling that something can seem lacking when comparing older gens to newer ones. I think a lot of it comes from newer groups pushing so hard for perfection in performance, visuals, dancing, and vocals. Sometimes it even feels like songs are made simpler to maintain those standards. Meanwhile, with a group like SHINee, you can really tell they focused on perfecting the feeling and embodiment of the songs they performed, not just the technical side of things. This is the 'soul' part that I feel with older gen songs, especially with SHINee (Gosh hope you can't see how many edits I made to this! Took me forever to figure out how long it's actually been since I've started listening to K-pop lol)

Roony

I would honestly recommend you react to the 5th mini album “Everybody” first before the concerts… That way you can react to the SHINee World concerts: 1, 2, 3. Then you can go back and listen to the 4th album “odd” (repackage: Married to the music) before reacting to SHINee World concert iv and the LEGENDARY first Tokyo Dome concert!!

Blue_Twist

AH, it’s been such a tough month for me, so looking forward to this listening party has been a bright spot on my horizon (along with the SHINee birthday and album release festivities)! Onew and Sunwoo Junga singing Selene 6.23 was my favorite moment in Sea of Hope. I come back to it often. I have loved so many of these songs for a long time, but I’ve never listened to the album from front to back before. It’s so interesting hearing them in their proper place, and they make such a different kind of sense this way. I loved the journey. It’s so frustrating sometimes to explain how groundbreaking Shinee has been, because once they set a trend, soon everybody’s doing it, and then no one remembers the risk and work it took to be the first. Like I’ll play a song for someone and they’ll say, “oh it sounds like x (songs from other groups). No, but when SHINee came out with this song NO ONE sounded like this! But also I’m biased - I think no one can match SHINee anyway 😁 Funny you should mention So Sick, because there’s an old grainy YouTube video from a million years ago of Jonghyun and Onew covering that song on a radio show (ft. baby Taemin vibing along on the sidelines). I had to go back and look it up: https://youtu.be/p8dw-cT60yg?si=-2L92k89zuEuwrT0 Your desperate “I asked for this!” when you finally got your ballad was everything 😂 I’m for watching and reacting to all the concerts and albums in order, but you might not get a break from SHINee in June because their new album drops in 2 days, and you don’t want to miss that, right??! Who’s here for ATMOS?! Also, thank you and everyone commenting. I don’t live in a place where many people listen to kpop, let alone SHINee, so watching you react and love what I love, and getting to read through full comment sections of people who love what I love really brings me a lot of joy. Thanks for creating this community! 🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵

Amanda Bourbonais

Your reaction to Like a Fire was so so correct from start to finish!! Can't wait for you to see the legendary live performance at SWC3 EVERYTHING LEADS BACK TO SHINEE!! SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!! omg not you wanting a ballad the whole time and then getting to Sleepless Night and almost losing it, I'm so sorry PD, but that was hilarious XD ok listen Better Off is SUCH a sleeper hit - I rediscovered it recently and thought damn, why is this not in the upper echelon of Shinee songs, I will never understand so I'm glad you gave it its flowers! Overall this is one of the most insane albums to exist, and I'm glad you got to experience it with us! Everybody is next I think? Yessssss~

Amanda Bourbonais

oh also the whole convo about missing heart in Kpop and Shinee being experts at putting heart in their songs. Yes. To all of that. Imo, that's why they continue to stay relevant, and not only relevant but BELOVED in this industry. They are so loved by other idols and fans and literally everybody because they put their heart and soul into the music and offer it to us. I don't know if I can think of any other group or artist who does it like they do. But I am biased :)

juls

Ngl I don’t listen to a lot of the songs from this album other than the r&b and ballads ones. BUT the ones I don’t often listen to I always watch their live performances instead. I remember a few years ago when we still did request livestreams I’d always put Like A Fire but it never made it 😔 well here we are years later and PD has finally discovered the masterpiece! I still recommend watching the live performance, it’s like the members are having a sing-off fr while doing the most goofiest shit on stage 😂 and keys high note at the end? chef’s kiss*. Bummed that we aren’t getting a shinee listening party next month but I’m also sooo excited for the concert reactions soon :)

juls

The Like a Fire and Excuse me miss fact is so reall. I don’t know if PD remembers it but they’ve actually already seen Excuse me Miss’s live performances a few years ago during a livestream request!

nam

im Sooooo excited to watch this thank you so much for spending time with shinee for us

Oro The Nymph

omg the growth you're about to witness...

Oro The Nymph

Ok I'm BACK! I know you're doing concerts soon, but I have to say that Excuse Me Miss is one of the very few SHINee songs I never listen to because the live is just *so much better*. Evil too, come to think of it. Before Loen rebranded as 1theK, the full press conference for Misconceptions was available online. You can still watch Sleepless Night, however - https://youtu.be/LOLiueb9gas?si=_L2qgFLmBudXW-Sz So many favorites in here. I love the darkness of it, too. I find SHINee's songs often have a dark heart to them. Orgel, Better Off are two standouts for me here. Better Off is so gentle, so pretty...so devastating, because we've all been there. Misconceptions is so interesting, because for me the only cohesiveness of it is in how odd it is, y'know? Maybe it's just down to which songs go where on them...hmm. It's also the first album where it became apparent to me just how much SM failed in highlighting how good a singer Minho is. You can hear him on their Japanese albums - which, btw, have almost completely different track lists. Two more things! Firstly, I only just realized that i have notifications on for comments HAHA I'm an idiot, and secondly if I haven't said it before, I so appreciate your commentary and knowledge about kpop, and Korean culture. I know that sounds dumb, but as someone who lived overseas in an English speaking country that I was familiar with from media, as a Korean learner I love hearing the inside cultural things, too. Man I hope that makes sense...

Antoni

Really interesting to hear your thoughts on the lost heart in Kpop as someone who's been a shawol since 2013 and someone who became a glit (ILLIT fan of you aren't already familiar) in 2024-2025. It actually made me think a lot about what truly draws me into groups (other than good music, obviously) and I've come to the conclusion that it's the passion and love for performance that's really drawn me in to groups and makes me stick with them. SHINee are the kings of live performance in kpop imo, all five members very obviously live to be on stage, and for me that's the through line that makes groups stick for me (other favs including seventeen, twice, ateez, loona (rip)). I became an illit fan in their cherish era where they had a lot to prove on stage live bc of the massive hate train against them, and i think the way they improved and gave so much to their live stages in that era and do the dance and jellyous promotions afterwards really wowed me. The IT'S ME era has been weird to navigate as a fan because I agree that the studio version of IT'S ME lacks heart hugely and i skip it pretty often when listening to the mini album, but yet i'm always excited to see when a new live performance drops because when they perform it live they give it so much more passion. Two best examples of this are their performance at Korea University recently when Wonhee's trying to get her mic turned up and yelling into it getting the crowd hyped, and their most recent Music Bank appearance with Moka back from hiatus where all the members are glowing with excitement to have her back and perform as 5 again and singing with so much passion. It's annoying as a fan that HYBE seems to be prioritizing perfection and virality over passion in a lot of their groups when they have artists with so much heart under them that clearly want to express that (it's also the major issue i have with their recent choices managing katseye). Anyways sorry to yap so much about illit on a shinee listening, your comparison just really got me thinking about what draws me towards both groups beyond great discographies. love misconceptions of us, its my second favorite shinee album after Odd/Married to the Music repackage, they are the kings of pushing boundaries musically in kpop <3

Baylee Barrow

oh my gosh i would love to find this😭😭

esskia

As a longtime shawol of 17 years and someone who has been watching you for a long time this warms my heart so much <3 I can't wait for you to discover the rest of their discography, and maybe if you have time whether you record it for a video or just in your own time for yourself I highly recommend their filmed concert/concert DVD's (my all time faves being shinee world 3, 4 and 5!) It some of the best performance of music I think one can experience and over all just a really good time! I still go back and rewatch them often. Can't wait for the other listening partys for the next few albums!!!!

Wyb 0805

I watched your Atmos reaction on YouTube and you mentioned you just reacted to this album, had to check it out immediately. This is one of my two most favorite SHINee album. Just amazing!!! OMG This was so fun to watch!!

Paddie97

I would definitely encourage you to react to “Like a Fire” and “Excuse Me Miss” Live as it’s definitely way waaaaaay better. They are on a different level hence has become one of the fandom’s favourite stages. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

alpha

Please watch and react to their concert performances 💎💎💎💎💎

alpha

One of my faves too Medusa I. You should watch their concert performance of this 💎💎💎💎💎

Georgia Young

You haaaave to check out Onew's rendition of Selene 6.23 on Sea of Hope!! :)

alpha

Nightmare's live version is better for me.

alpha

Did you know that I just became your patreon member like 3-4 days ago, and this is already my 2nd time watching this reaction of yours? 😅 loving that you're loving SHINee 💎💎💎💎💎

Lena

I’m counting the days till you react to SWCIII and SWCIV, genuinely my favorite album to listen to when watching them live especially. Like others have mentioned, I recommend reacting to Everybody first before reacting to SWC 1-3 that way you’re all caught up

Hello Hi

My entry to this album is via the concert watch. The mix for the concert is different which i liked more or maybe because of the rawness/ live? . With their experience- some of the songs get better and better with their stage. Like in their recent concert: LIKE A FIRE- was a repeat for me- it's like they're just playing with it- easy but hard

Hello Hi

But the runaway song you'll always hear during shinee concerts hehehe. While waiting for the concert to start or as an interim

orion_is_tired

This duo holds a place of honour on my coffee table, I love this album so much. Better Off is a fantastic example of one of my favourite types of song, a sad-ass bop.

Sophie

Like a fire is FIREREEEREEEE ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

SHINinAqua

I'm of the belief that kpop has gone down the "minimalism is the death of detail" road. I feel that a lot of songs are just missing a bit of umph (either in vocals or instrumentals) as well as maybe a bit of fear in pushing too far and not committing to the "bit". THAT'S what drew me to kpop in 2011, my non kpop friend often referred to it as unfiltered pop(?). Unfortunately, its a blessing and a curse to have SHINee as my standard 🫠
