Mai isn’t dead, Naoya misunderstood, he thought it was Mai but Maki is the one who’s nearly dead, bc of the attack by volcano head last season in shibuya (that’s also what killed the old head of the Zenin clan) Also the reason Megumi is becoming head of the Zenin clan is bc he would’ve been next in line if he had joined when Toji basically sold him to the old head when he was like 6 (then as Toji was dying he like asked Gojo to do something about it and that’s what stopped it from happening) but because Gojo is now gone that is null and Toji’s original deal is going through which makes Megumi now head of the clan because he has the hereditary Zenin Ten Shadows it makes him the heir basically I think the time gap between where season 2 ends and this begins is like a week at most I think the animation is mostly a little looser on purpose to be a little less jarring from in and out of fights scenes bc this season is about to pop off and it makes it easier to animate some of the insane shit that coming trust me I don’t know what sources you’ve been looking at that say this season was bad they’re lying brooo hahaha

Fun fact, the first two eps of this season were released together in theatres! This entire season felt like such a cinematic experience and I do agree that the art style change reflects where we are narratively. I believe it’s a deliberate choice also, judging from the season director’s other works. I do not agree at all with the criticism lol, I’m sooo excited for you to watch it all 🙂‍↕️
