I have a new show! It's called PD vs THE INTERNET. Check out the "test" pilot and if you enjoy it and want more I'll be dedicating more resources like editing, graphics, music and more!

In the future I'll be tackling things both K-Pop and non-Kpop and things that are mundane like military service and perhaps more controversial things as well (without being controversial).

Would love to hear your feedback!

My main want as an army with this is if possible I would like Jin to at least be able to wait till they can do one more tour, then potentially have them all go at once.

I totally agree with you on this one. I few weeks a go I saw a video on YT on what do Korean men think about BTS maybe not joining the military and it was very interesting. For the most part most men didn’t want to join, as you said they had no desire to enlist, so some thought that it would be unfair if BTS got a pass and that really open end my mind, because I used to think that they shouldn’t go to the military because they already did so much for their country but I never thought about how Koreans would view it, how perhaps BTS would be looked down on if they did indeed get a pass. To me personally right now, 2 more years with Jin, makes a world of a difference 💪🏽

for me, they should send the whole hyung line now, while we don't have any perspective on touring anyways, meanwhile maknae line can work on solo projects. After they come back, there's still almost 3 years before VMin has to enlist with this new law, so they have a nice time to work as a group and tour again and all that

So my theory: if Covid hadn’t happened, BTS would’ve wrapped a mega MOTS stadium tour at the end of this year, collected bags full of accolades, and announced that they were all packing off to the military together in Jan of 2021. They were clearly gearing up for a big departure, according to BigHit’s H1 report, and the plans for BE:LIFT and ENHYPEN were already in place. There’s the Kdrama based on the BU, more video/mobile game content, a potential girl group in 2022, and so on. I think the signs were there. The pandemic threw that all out of whack. I’m definitely not complaining about all the content that ended up being produced as a result, like In The Soop and of COURSE *BE*, but I think they may have had to scramble a bit to reevaluate what BTS was going to do when they couldn’t go enlist with the bang they should’ve had this year. 2020 was going to be THE year. My money is still on them all going to enlist together anyway, since they’ve spoken about never wanting to be apart on multiple occasions, and it could make a lot of sense financially for BigHit, but I’m very curious to see what the surrounding circumstances end up looking like for when they do go. Edit: they’ve all said they would go, too. If they received an official exemption, they could gracefully bow out, but as it stands, Jin is on record saying that he’ll answer the call to serve “when the time comes”, which all the boys have echoed.

honestly, I half speculate that in bts's case specifically, the two year extension is to give time to hammer out a real policy about idol exemptions. bts's exemption talk and the fire behind this bill was their Hot 100 records, but they can't just wave their hands and fully exempt Jin without a solid rule of thumb to what merits a full exemption for idols, because there isn't anything as concrete at Olympic Gold medals or the like for highly successful pop musicians. I think sometime in the next two years full exemption will be heavy in conversation. That's just my opinion, BTS themselves have been very vocal about their intent to enlist, so it's not even positive that Jin will accept the extension anyway.

About the series: I think it's a great idea PD since in your streams you get a lot of "what are your thoughts on this" or "what are your thoughts on that?" on the chat so people are definitely interested in hearing your opinions in a lot of current events About the topic: I don't have a formed opinion if BTS should go together or not since I'm not an army but I'm just confused because the cut off age some years ago to go to the military was already 30 for everybody but they reduced to 28 some time ago....and now they have to make a special law to increase it again but just for selected few idols. Why not change it back the age for EVERYBODY, idol or not, to 30 again, keep the 1 year and a half of service and make the law for exemptions for outstanding perfomance to include idols so they can skip it all together? This way all the idols could promote for longer, including BTS, AND BTS could have the option to not go at all since they check all the boxes to get the exemption. If they decide to go anyways even with possibility of exemption then it would be their ultimate choice in the end.

It always seemed to me that they're waiting for BTS to win a Grammy because that would be considered a 'legit' reason by most people for their exemption, just like an Olympic medal in sports or international competitions in classical music. They now have a nomination so it might happen very soon, but even if they don't get it, they now have 2 more years to win one. No idol has ever even come close to winning a Grammy and I don't think anyone else will in the near future so this criteria would probably appease those who worry that all idols would try to get an exemption if it was made possible. I agree with the comment above that the Korean government passed this law so they could come up with something else in that time for BTS's full exemption that the public would react favorably to.

In my opinion, if the country has a law that all men must serve, my country has it too, then there should be no exceptions. For no one. Except for those who have health problems. As for the idols, they must join the army. They simply must. Because idols are not just singers, dancers, artists. They are some kind of example, a pattern of the ideal. It's tough, I know, but that's the rules of the game. And if you chose this career, you should accept all rules and consequences. I really like exo's approach to military service. Just do it, go and come back. Done. And no long talk.

Knowing how bts are, i feel like theyre going to say f that and enlist as a whole group or divided in two before Jin turns 30. They have said multiple times that they want to serve so i wouldnt be surprised if that happens. Lol when you mentioned some idol groups taking years for every member to complete enlistment. Last year was when super juniors maknae, kyuhyun, finished his military service and it took them 10 years for all the members to finish enlisting. Im liking this series. I hope you continue it ^^

Idk, in my opinion, I think BTS should enlist at the regular time. I agree, there really isn't a difference between enlisting now vs in two years. BTS are a powerhouse and I don't see them ever losing the popularity they have as a group or individually. I know a lot of people want them to go all together but honestly, they could use the time of enlistment as a solo/unit debut opportunity like for example how exo's been handling enlistment. Even if they do get a full exemption as they deserve, I think they'll all probably still go because, as you were saying, Korea sees it as serving the country and becoming a "man". Like even if they don't want to go and don't have to go, they'll probably still end up serving out of the fact they don't want to cause trouble or be looked down upon.

Look, SVT is my ult group. But I think a lot of people on YT and Twitter missed the fact that BTS is being considered to have a postponement due to their order of cultural merit. Most people think it's because they achieved #1 in BB Hot 100 and they got a Grammy nomination - but the main reason is actually because they are the only idol group who has received a cultural merit from the government and that was wayback in 2018 (no #1 in Hot100, no Grammys yet). They're also the youngest receivers. The order of cultural merit has a very much higher value than prime minister awards and other culture awards so I think some people shouldn't compare BTS' situation to other groups. According the law being passed, people who have received an order of cultural merit might be allowed to postpone/exempt (if developed). I see a lot of quarrels on Twitter - some people are saying that this law will be unfair and so other idols - especially those who are 2nd generation idols must have been allowed to postpone too since they contributed a greater achievement for 3rd generation idols. But the thing is we're in a different time now and, this law is SUPPOSED to be unfair. Currently, some athletes are being exempted from enlistment - and that makes it unfair for other athletes too right? So in this case, it's actually just the same. No order of cultural merit = no postponement. Well, but since it's still not finalized, let's just hope for the best. In my opinion, the hyung line and the maknae line should go together. I think that's what they'll do. Btw - great content, PD! Looking forward to more of this.
