Stray kids sounded angry while they were performing. Like they fit the concept and we're like very aggressive. Expecially bangchan at the end.

So there was a whole controversy between Stray Kids and MAMA, and basically MAMA did not nominate SKZ for a single award, despite them objectively having a much more successful comeback than the majority of the groups that were nominated. The only reason why MAMA invited them was to promote their upcoming survival show Kingdom, which The Boyz and Ateez will compete on as well. SKZ were used to promote the show, and according to their choreographer, had a ridiculously short amount of time to practice for it because of Mnet’s late notice. To fit with the Kingdom theme, they chose Victory Song.

Another crazy thing: Korean articles have reported that Mnet was threatening companies to have their groups join Kingdom, suggesting it would hurt their junior groups if they don't accept to be in the program. The sneaking suspicion is that JYPE initially declined the Kingdom offer for SKZ, which is why they were snubbed by MAMA, but then later accepted which explains why they had a very short time to practice for the performance.

As a follow-up for this, JYP groups often use Mnet for all their variety shows (stray kids, got7 and itzy have all done solo variety stuff thru mnet) so rumor has it that mnet pressured jyp using that connection as incentive .

this isn’t confirmed but a lot of stays think that they may have chosen to perform victory song as almost like a warning or preface to them entering kingdom. the lyrics themselves, “listen to this victory song” “undefeated” and the beginning of changbins rap “don’t you know who we are? you cannot defeat us this is our kingdom”

Hyunjin just really be hitting differently xD im not gonna lie. I had my mouth open and dribbling.

Sakura

Bang Chan said this performance was meant to SLAP MAMA on a Vlive DURING MAMA. King's behavior indeed.

This was definitely my favourite performance of the three. Hyunjin looked like an anime character. It was perfect from beginning to end. So good

Dia

I think the Boyz performance was more regal since they won RTK and SKZ and Ateez were more hard hitting and intense because they will be coming for the crown once they are in Kingdom together. I seriously can’t wait for Kingdom!

Hyunjin and the swords...no words. That was epic !
