What are some of your favourite hidden gems or b-sides of groups? Is jeonghan still your ult? (Immaculate choice btw Seungkwan is mine) If you had one bit of advice for people searching for new groups (as I am) what would that be? Love your content! Thanks!

Okay, here's a CoNTroVeRSiaL one for ya: Lately there has been a debate RAGING thoughout the kpop world, brought to everyone's attention by an innocent yet loaded question to Gfriend during one fateful Dingo interview. The girls went wild. Soon their argument spread through the industry like wildfire - tearing apart groups, friends, family and fans alike. Neither side can be swayed, no answer has been definitively given. So answer me this: Do people have One Butt or Two butts? [Source: https://twitter.com/sophroditeseok/status/1334466226156756992?s=19] ps, I hope this gives you a laugh ❤️

Miguel

what group would you like to collaborate for a short film?

Jopo 56

Hmmm? Maybe this: Do u think any kpop group thats currently active will ever win a artist of the year award thats not BTS❓ And if yes Who and why?

Hi, I don’t know if you know but the The Boyz X Ateez X Stray Kids MAMA performance was just a teaser and promotion for the Kingdom series early next year which they will compete (with other groups that will be announced) for the crown. So my questions are what are your thoughts, feelings and expectations about these three groups taking part in Kingdom and if in mind have any other groups you think should compete and join them? Thanks PD! Hope you feel better, staying safe and are looking after yourself. Looking forward for the podcast as always, it makes my week!

Leaving the kpop topic aside, what is for favourite movie genre? And also, what is your favourite movie/actor? Since you are a director and a producer i am really curious.

My question is: what is the real music scene in Korea? By that I mean what kind of music do koreans perceive as cool really because I just found fragments of it and it's kind of strange seen from here. I've heard that men mostly know about girl groups when they are in the military, that Koreans think Kpop is childish or something that just focuses on young people, that the "real music" for them is more about indie/singer-songwriter and hip-hop, maybe even trot... I wonder how it came to be such a sought after career for "kids" IF it's considered almost a gimmick by adults. Not to mention the hard work all idols had to put in to became one, how does that add up?

Okay this is quite childlish in my opinion... What are your thoughts on idols smoking? Recently many idols were caught doing that and people got M A D. I lost so many braincells when i read comments/posts like: "you dissapointed me", " I hate you now" etc. I mean personally i would get worried first, cause smoking affects their job and health which is obvious. However we never know why they even started smoking, it could be curiosity and all that, but it could also be depression/ anxiety etc. So ye... what are your own views in general on this topic, and what kind of comments do you think the idols should recieve when they were caught smoking?

Also there's the topic of skinship and the broader concept of love in Korea and how that created the delusions (or are theeeeeey?? 😏) we call ships, that would be really interesting to hear more about I feel like. I've seen you talking about it in a video here on Patreon on how for example men can hug, tell they love each other as friends without it sounding strange to other people, how there's this concept of love that has nothing to do with physical attraction and can legitimately be like "you're so freaking awesome and good overall that I just love you as a human being" like it is for Weeekly's Jihan toward Loona's Olivia Hye (love out of admiration?). Even all the skinship between girl groups members with all those hands holdings, kisses, hugs, intertwined fingers, and such can seem pretty alien to Westerners and are sings of affection that in the oh-so-liberal West are relegated to romantic relationships, to the point that here have fed the "ship monster" to awesome proportion while it's ignored in Korea.

Hey PD! Have you ever been to Germany? If not are you planning on visiting it someday?

How do you decide what to react to and what not to react to? Because I'm sure you get a ton of suggestions. So how do you choose? I mean stuff like reality TV and variety shows especially.

Another question: who really "paved the way"? I'm not an OG stan as I've discovered Kpop only during summer last year but as my understanding of the history of Kpop grows I see how arguments made for some groups are a bit fabricated and supported by an explosion of Kpop as a global phenomenon more than them actually pioneering the expansion of the genre West.

Opinionated Matt

The last (maybe) question that comes to mind is, what is Kpop? It's something you talked about before at length but I think it's still relevant and probably will always be given evolving nature of the genre. I'm asking this question in particular because I know you plan on reacting to the Blackpink documentary and there two different definitions are given which is interesting in my opinion (I personally side with Jennie's as a minimum definition of it). That would also mean to keep that question for a podcast episode released after the documentary reaction is out though. The more interesting part of the answer could be talking about practical examples of Kpop sounds compared to Western pop ones, or talking about elements in songs that are so recognisable that could almost be considered tropes. There are also some groups than more than others walk on the fine line between genres like Blackpink and BTS when it comes to more Western sounds and Iz*one that to me has attempted hybridizing Kpop and Jpop in "Panorama" that could come handy in the discussion. I hope I added enough food for thoughts on the topic to make it appealing 😂.

Absolutely, Soojin and Miyeon talked about it too but I'm team one butt and will die on that hill!

Hypothetically, if you would be able to create a superm type of girl and or boy group (even co-ed is possible) how would they look like. Which idol would you put in and what positions would they have and if you want to answer this too: what type of genre(s) would their sound be?

yooin

have you met / talk to some idols/groups youd never thought youd be able to talk to? If so, what was your best memory

uslizo

Your opinion about G Dragon comeback! You think he still one of the biggest celebrity there in Korean? For you who are the biggest kpop group of all time (top 5)

Otto

Stages rookies should perform/cover from seniors? like StayC performing Gfriend songs, or Weeekly performing Oh My Girl songs? or any other you think might be great?

Brianna

Probably not the most creative question but what 4th gen group do you think has the biggest potential to change the kpop scene in years to come? Whether is musically, mv wise or any other reason you can think of. I think everyone has an opinion on this thats pretty biased so it’d be nice to hear an unbiased (as possible) opinion on this!

PiscesGroove

At what age do you think is too young for someone to debut as an idol?

Abi

How do you not become overwhelmed with the amount of content coming out in kpop? Especially with this being a part of your career rn? Maybe I'm still in my obsessive phase and haven't learned to detach but I feel like my attention is being taken away every 5 minutes (its too much sometimes lol)

ThatPatreonThough

When, if ever, do you see a reset in the Kpop industry? I’m not entirely sure if I’m wording it correctly but like, the top groups (and rookies trying to capture attention) keep trying to outdo themselves and be innovative, but there’s a limit to what can be done. BTS upped the game with their storyline. LOONA upped the game with their predebut project. aespa and SM upped the game with their SM universe that is all interconnected and has avatars. Where/when do you think it’ll crash? And what do you think will follow?

Meruka Hinaru

What comebacks or debuts from this year do you think revolutionized or caused a great impact in the K-pop and the industry? It can be in any kind of aspect you'd like to discuss: music wise, performance wise, stage wise, message wise, etc.

Moni Kay

why do you think groups like BTS and Blackpink (especially BTS) have had more success than other groups in breaking into the western industry? as well as having more global success. Does it come down to strictly marketing or is relatability/likability, talent, music, and luck a big part?
