The choreo sort of made sense for me, given Soojin’s dance background. She’s not really a trained hip-hop dancer in the same way SinB is or even Chaeyeon, to an extent. Soojin’s background is largely Jazz-based, and what they sort of gave us is a Jazz/Heels style of dance, which is much different than typical KPop style. Interesting thing, too, is that the song artist, Marian Hill, is used occasionally by US choreographers who work in the Jazz style because it is so percussive, but not really in a hip-hop way. But it isn’t for everyone’s taste because sometimes these steps can get really repetitive.

Thank you for the reaction and the honest opinion! I completely agree with the analysis, the choreo was too repetitive to display the abilities of a dancer of the caliber of being an artist of the month and so far in this series the performance I like the most is still Chaeyeon's. I don't have much of a background in dancing (1 year of hip hop and popping and then Covid came, 14 years as a martial artist) but love watching dancers and choreos so Soojin is one of those I always have my eyes on because she has this reputation as a "femme fatale" and she's highly talked about on the internet. Personally I like her but I don't love her so I always keep a close eye on her because I'm always hoping to see her doing something that wows me and will continue doing so. 😉 P.S.: this AOTM series is really a chance for dancers to showcase what they want so you'll not find "kpop choreos", if it happens it's just the natural inclination of the artist herself.

Loved the performance ! It wasn’t a typical kpop choreo but Soojin went for the sexy concept and she DELIVERED ^^. I was blow away by the charisma, especially knowing how shy/cutie she is outside the stage. I don’t think these AOTM videos are necesseraly to follow the kpop standard but more for the artist to really choose what kind of performance they feel like doing.

I'd like to add points to Soojin's performance because of the heels she used, I asked to some female friends and as I thought they are hella uncomfortable to dance in.

Definitely, this choreo was not made to show off intricate movements or technical steps, but more so about the performance itself and the emotion and charisma that Soojin exudes; so having that in mind I think it was a 10/10.

yooin

why is soojin so pretty

Floater

I actually really like this because of the overall atmosphere and I think it's something only soojin can pull off

I love Soojin and largely felt the same way you did after watching this. She's beautiful, sexy, and insanely charismatic but I would've loved to see more actual dancing. It was more of a performance/show than a dance video but it was still a great watch and she put on a great performace.

As a western viewer, I guess I loved the performance or Broadway-esque aspect. I thought she was showing a lot of sexuality in a very powerful way. Like... I've always considered myself a gay man, but lately, I wonder? This performance definitely filled me with wonder. She just... someone above said charismatic. I think that's why I like (G)I-DLE. They are fully charismatic. Magnetic. I love that power. <3

Y'know, it's kind of interesting that (G)I-DLE is known for being incredibly creative, and people always point to their producer line and the fact that they're so involved with their stage designs and MV's and what-not. Soyeon particularly gets a lot of attention for it, and recently, Minnie and Yuqi are growing musical producers as well... It's fascinating when their Main Dancer gets her own solo showcase, she also did something a bit out of the norm, catered to her style and preferences. I agree with the assessment that Soyeon gave that (G)I-DLE doesn't conform to any particular concept, except perhaps honesty... their creative projects are very reflective of themselves. At this point, Soojin is no longer with the group, but yeah, this project really did capture why she was very special for (G)I-DLE. Agreed, it's different from the K-Pop norm, which is largely hip hop-based. Soojin's certainly capable of doing more powerful moves, but she excels in doing a lot of the softer, slower choreography. She can make a lot of moves just look really effortless. And then her on-stage charisma is very alluring. When she was in (G)I-DLE, she and Soyeon were an amazing pair because they complemented eachother so well. I'm really going to miss her being in the group.

PD's "like wtf did I just watch". Soojin prefers this kind of dance 😂
