I'm a firm believer of Pretty U superiority

rockthekazb0t

Initial response to your question while I watch - Pretty U was the most fun and made me smile the most but I still think Team 1 Yes or Yes(the one with Jiwon, Hyerim, etc who also won the Mcountdown benefit) was the best and most polished. That was a debuted idol-level performance. Edit: This is a warning for your health, all the elimination episodes are unreasonably LOOONG so be prepared with snacks when you watch the next episode! Also, be prepared to be sad 😭

Mik

Pretty U was such a good performance and the best out of all off them in my opinion

Anonymous

If you're about to cry with Huang Xingqiao, oh boy, I think you'll need those for Minjoo and Hyewon in Produce 48 too. Just saying. Edit #1: EBS Team... I'm torn between Mic Drop and Pretty U team because those two teams really improved a lot, and it was such a treat watching their performances. However I pick Pretty U team because I love cute and energetic performances. You need that serotonin boost!! Edit #2: I agree that the best performance in this episode goes to FIESTA Team 1. It wasn't too much nor was it less, they gave a really solid performance.

Nico Engels

Its so funny. When I watched it i also cried all the time. And now when I am rewatching, I am crying again.

R.S

The tears are me too, no matter what the result now looking back, I enjoyed it and I hope at least these trainees got a little bit more experience if anything, actually enjoying rewatching

Harley

PD if you though I-Land elimination episodes are long and painful then prepare for these elimination episodes. Most weeks I just skipped them and had someone send me the list of safe girls

Aiz

The Pretty U team( and another team from episode 6) had me crying about wanting to see more of them together because the chemistry and the energy were so good! It didn't matter that they weren't technically the most skilled, Pretty U team had the charisma and the charm for me! I also do think that the overall best performers were the Yes or Yes team, but Fiesta was a close one! Also, as everyone else has warned...PD the elimination episodes are so long please make yourself comfortable

Nico Engels

For EBS I actually think The Eve Team and Pretty U were really close. I kinda disagree with Sunmi's evaluation of Fu Yaning and Su Rui Qi because the facial expressions fit them, while Yoo Dayeon doesnt have the vibe these two have. I think The Eve Team was more stable vocally, as well as dance wise. But the Energy was way better in Pretty U as well as their teamwork. When it was live I actually chose The Eve, but I absolutely loved Pretty U. For the ultimate #1 for the MCountdown performance I would have also chosen FiestaTeam 1, because they were just soooo fucking good throughout. I started cheering for Kang Yeseo after the demo stage and she was sooooo damn good in Fiesta! She killed it! Yes or Yes was a close 2nd for me.

rockthekazb0t

The thing with Fu Yaning in this mission, she doesn't make a great *leader* as in someone who can lead and also take care of the whole team dynamics and harmony. Those people are always thinking of multiple factors and serve as the guiding influence for the whole team. IMO, she's better as a "general" - give her a clear objective and plan, and you can bet your ass she will deliver results. (It's actually lowkey funny, because her behind-the-scenes nickname from all the other girls is General/Lord Puya - 푸야닝 = 푸야님, which embarrasses her lol)

elise

Honestly my top 3 performance for all this round are : 1) Fiesta Team 1 for sure 2) Pretty U Team got me seriously 3) YES OR YES team Fiesta Team and Pretty U Team have the two performance that i re-watch a lot and listen a lot compared to the others. I was happy to see Pretty U Team winning, it was actually my favorite of all the EBS Team, they arent bad individualy, the one doing the high note did well considering its quite high, the rappers were sooo good, I discovered Kotone thank to this (thankful because Mnet dont want to guve her screentime) , the energy was top and overall it was so good, got me smiling and happy. The Eve, they were good individualy true but otherwise it felt so strange, it didnt catch me at all. MIC DROP wasnt that bad but yeah the two others team did better. ---- Otherwise i want to say the Twins are actually really good! Especially in dancing, people discovered some of their performances on Twitter and were shocked because they didn't expected this Both of them are in the group GNZ48

Amanda Bernström

Pretty U team was def y favorite of all the performances

excellen

I saw the Combination Mission as a way to see who would give the best teamwork and synergy so that's why I totally agree that The eve team was good individually but it didn't captivate me as a team overall. The Pretty U team deserved the win. My favorite performances from this mission were the Yes or Yes team 1 and Fiesta team 1. And like everyone said the next elimination episode is LONG because they have to go through the cell rankings to see who survived or not and then you go to the top 9 individual rankings. So have some preparations set like snacks and tissues cause every elimination gets more emotional as we go further.

rockthekazb0t

I still haven't emotionally recovered from the 2nd eliminations, let alone the finale 💀

laura

Fiesta Team 1 and Pretty U were my favorite performances!! Prepare yourself for more tears in future episodes (and PD48). I'll be right here tearing up with you lmao, I still haven't recovered from the final tbh. Also since you asked: Myah from Pretty U team is 15 years old! She was born in 06.

希文 王

I can't remember from the previous episodes so correct my if I'm wrong, but the Fiesta Team 2 barely got any screen time compared to all the other groups right? like they had zero interim evaluation footage and the only standout point was whether their vocalist could hit the high notes (I mean I know they're the "leftover team" but oof) (I've currently gotten to Pretty U and they're so good! Also I'm not saying Fiesta Team 1 did not deserve the win, overall they did better, much better than I thought anyone could cover an IZ*ONE song

Karnuka

the whole part issue with dayeon in the exo team still irks me. she DID try to bring it up and talk about it. they clearly showed that in the last episode. but then they all say they would've done something, if she had just said something? what?! she did! and they immediately shut her down.. i get that the situation is difficult. i just really don't like all the other team members basically lying about that part.

Yan J.

Hey PD if you Didn't know the #2 K girl Yeyoung is from BBC

Alex P

Oh My Girl has sneaky difficult songs and this episode really proved it to me, as both teams looked like they were barely hanging on, and in my opinion, the song defeated both teams. Very difficult vocals and a concept that is very nuanced to say the least. One of the many reasons they are one of my ULT girl groups. Also, Jungkook- I mean Kang Ye Seo supremacy!

A.D

Fiesta was also my favourite - Mashiro, Reina and Sunwoo doing those vocals at the end was just incredible. Im really excited to see your reaction to the top 9 next episode so you can get an idea of the publics favs at the time, as im sure there will be a few surprises! and the next missions, ohhhhhh my god you are in for a TREAT I can't wait!

Marcela Pereira

I did not watch any of the elimination episodes because they were so long. I just watched the next episode and be like 'Oh, she didn't make it' when I noticed someone was not in it.

Marcela Pereira

For me the Pretty U team did the best. The Eve was not bad but honestly I was waiting for the both vocalists parts only, didn't care for the rest of the members. In contrast with Pretty U where I enjoyed every part of it.

Amira.Z

Pd, if episode 3 (imagine the 3 is bolded and italicised for further emphasis) in between footage makes you cry, you need to mentally prepare for the incoming weeks. Gg.

CRAYON weiwen

Same thought, she even tear out, still couldn't try for another part, I won't blame her action speaking out in front of the masters, better to do it while you still can rather than regret and complaint on YouTube or somewhere after the show.

Oligom

Fiesta team ( the one with Yeseo, forgot the number) was the best IMO, but team Pretty U was a really close 2nd for me. the Yes or Yes teams left me with bittersweet feelings, bc Doah was so much better as a Center, but as a whole, i guess team one was better in the end.

Joy

You can pronounce her name as Huening Bahiyyih ( Bi-yay) or her nickname which is Hiyyih (he-yay). The unfair editing already has me pulling me hair out again. Just a heads up PD, elimination episodes drag on genuinely forever so if you wanna fast forward some parts wouldn’t blame ya.

Ulla Molina

I’m sure that the proper way to pronounce Bahiyyih’s name is the way it’s written in Korean. Her sister says it like that.

Ulla Molina

I don’t know if it’ll be useful, but I want to provide some context without spoilers. The preview in previous episode set the stage for surprising Mic Drop domination. And two days after the episode mnet dropped ALL the fancams on their YouTube, including performances from 4th episode. It was a good choice if we consider giving all of the girls kind of an equal chance to catch votes. But it also spoiled us some things. Like Mic Drop looking like a disaster (in individual fancams problems like weak dancing were more glaring) and Fiesta team 2 losing because of weaker vocals. But it also was kind of good, because there were disgusting rumors at the time that Fiesta 2 lost because of Bahiyyih being too untalented (not dancing or holding a note), as one of the previews was unblurred, spoiling Fiesta 1 win. But Bahiyyih was stable in singing and she danced fine, so the individual fancam shut people up.

flowerbit

You asked if Bora is the leader of Cherry Bullet. She is not. The leader of Cherry Bullet is Haeyoon

flowerbit

My favorite performances were Yes or Yes team 1, The Fifth Season white team, and Fiesta red team. I really rooted for most of the girls on all of those teams. Btw be prepared for the elimination episode bc it is gonna take foreverrrre

M

I thought the Fiesta performance (team in red) was the most fun to watch. I personally really liked The Eve too, though to be fair, 50% of that enjoyment came from Jiyoon and Hikaru's voices. The elimination episodes are a nightmare as other people have mentioned. I still watched them because of the interactions between the girls, but I definitely fast forwarded through the waiting time. Can't wait for the next ep. :)

Amanda Araujo

pls i cant watch survival shows i teared up so many times in this episode :') for me The Eve really did the best because everyone individually were amazing but as a team it didnt move me so as an overall performance i think for me Fiesta red team and Pretty U were the ones who did best and who were the most enjoyable to watch

Julianne

Fiesta Team 1, one of the Twice teams (I forget which one), and Pretty U were the best performances for me personally. I really enjoyed watching those three.

serenity

The reason why certain trainees are doing a million times better in this mission than the audition is because Mnet literally assigned their demo stage songs to each person they didn't choose their songs so they basically set up a lot of girls to fail in my opinion. Like putting Xiaoting and Yurina in a group full of girls that weren't as good, it was all to make them stand out (not throwing shade at Xiaorina those are my girls lmao)

serenity

I HAVE A LOT TO SAY ABOUT THE EVE TEAM: The Eve team made me very angry ngl because they were acting like Dayeon should've just stayed quiet when she was the one who created the team in the first place and I personally feel like they should be grateful she spoke up during the interim check and made people uncomfortable because why is Su Rui Qi allowed to ask for multiple parts but when Dayeon did it they were acting like she was selfish? They acted like she didn't ask for a different part in the very beginning. I applaud Dayeon for speaking up, but her team was full of people that wanted the spotlight so it made her look like the bad guy and it sucks. That being said I also didn't like their performance because everyone Dayeon included was trying too hard to be the #1 star of the whole thing and it ruined it, Shana, Kamikura Rei, and Xu Ruo Wei were the only ones in my opinion that understood that this was a team effort. BUT I also disagree with what Sunmi said about them making facial expressions because of the way they look, like that made absolutely no sense to me because what about Idols like San who get praised for doing that exact same thing that upset me. In conclusion I think the eve team was a hot garbage mess and Dayeon didn't deserve all the hate and dragging she received on twitter because she wanted to chase her dream.

Wiktor

I would take what you see with a grain of salt. MNET decides what to show you and what story they present to you. Many things are edited in a certain way. Even interviews or trainee opinions from something unrelated to the acc topic, could be used JUST for the storyline. If I was you, I would take anything you see, related to MNET with a grain of salt, sit back, enjoy the show and don't get too invested. Also, I agree with RuiQi and Dayeon facial expressions being too much, im surprised HIKARU wasn't also added to SUMNI's comment, I found Hikaru too much with her facial expressions aswell, it was cringe to watch, rather then professional, felt like a cover rather then making the song theirs. I think Jiyoon, Shana and Suyeon carried that performance, because they SERVED and made the cover THEIRS. they where insane for it.

Benjamin Gonzales

Truly weird fact, Kang Yeseo debuted in her second group before Yujin debuted in CLC. Yeseo debuted 10 years before Yujin. Somewhat related to the topic, if it wasn' t mentioned these interim reviews that girls did in front of the masters were done about two days after the songs were assigned. The girls prepared everything themselves without that much input from anybody until that first review. Some people say that is not realistic, but seeing Tiffany, reminds me when she was on Sister Slam Dunk (Somi next Season did it also) was able to get the choreo down in less than an hour. Easier choreo yes, but i believe that is the expectation, that the girls should have it down after one to two days of practice.

Emily L.

Both red teams (clothing wise) for Yes or Yes and Fiesta felt the most polished as an idol performance while keeping teamwork for me, and I slightly prefer Yes or Yes. Shout out to Pretty U, they're really adorable and make you smile! And ooh it just occurred to me that Fu Yaning's leadership reminded me of K's during I-LAND, like him in the earlier stages of leadership before he talked it out more with the others during the Flicker mission, if you remember? I think you likened it to a dictatorship with efficiency! Just a random thought, but wow I LOVED how The Eve team sounded in the song at the very least! It was good balance between high, mid, and low timbres that it was very pleasant on the ears. While visually they didn't look like the perfect team, I want to commend the combination of their voices to the point that I would love an official audio of them singing ❤️

Benjamin Gonzales

The nuance that OMG does so well, is the way that all their voices blend together in their songs. To me, the black group did that better, but I could see why white won, you could tell their confidence in the performance was definitely better.

Diana

The Pretty U performance was superb. The first time around, I didn't even notice Ruan that much, but now that I watch it again...she killed it. Masters were right, you will see why :P The elimination eps are always a pain to watch, still...I don't like to skip things, so I endured them. I just wish you luck throughout. The first round was fairly "straightforward" compared to the second and third, so there's that too. And the first Top 9 was kinda exciting. The others are just dragged, and of course the final was nerve-wracking. Looking forward to episode 5!

Diana

Also, I didn't know how to pronounce Bahiyyih's name either, when I first read it like that, but the Korean spelling is it lol 바 - 히 - 에 And when they say it complete, I hear they don't emphasize the "h" sound too much (I by no means speak Korean, so you will tell us if that is common in those phoneme combinations :P ) Everyone in the show seems to call her just 히에

Anonymous

I think the situation with dayeon was kind of frustrating for me because if you remember in the last episode she actually asked if they could choose parts differently. However, when she asked Fu Yaning, Yaning basically dismissed her suggestion. I honestly totally understand why dayeon brought up the situation with the masters because it was obvious that she was frustrated. My guess is that she felt like she wasn’t being heard and that’s why she brought it to their attention. I found it really frustrating to see how other members were asking why she never spoke up when she actually did. I think this was honestly not a good mix of people and I didn’t agree with the leadership that took place in this team. I think that this really goes to show that even if you are the oldest, it doesn’t mean you’re fitted to be the leader.

Kiki

I think individually, everyone in The Eve was phenomenal (and I started rooting for Shana from this point) but they didn't perform well as a group - they each looked like they were trying to out-do each other. My favourite performances were the Yes or Yes Team 1, Fiesta Team 1 and Pretty U - I just found those to be really enjoyable and memorable performances.

Izak

i 100% agree it was so frustrating to see the other girls act as if she never mentioned it because she did, i understand them to an extent but like she had tried and was just told no and shut down, and no one else seemed to have complained so i see why she didn't continue to bring it up again because she most likely would have been shut down and told that they didn't have time to change it, i feel like she brought it up in front of the masters because they pointed out an issue and she thought they would then back her and in a way they did because they were forced to talk about it

Izak

i haven't finished the episode yet but what u said about egos is something that when i watched the show thought, this is going to be a problem, i think that there is nothing wrong with it, until it starts to effect the group, in shows like this communication and team work are so important the minute u let ur ego get in the way of bettering the team you spoil it, especially when everyone on your team is high level, with the people on the eve team they had potential for a like 20/10 performance, because they didn't work out the part in an effective way, even the way they chose leader they didn't talk about it well, it felt like rather than looking for what was best for the team it was about making themselves shine individually above others, which i understand wanting to do that but these are the type of people that can take any part and make themselves shine and this round relies on teamwork and the lack of that makes it feel like a 7/10 at best for me , i man even the way the redivided the parts i feel like they needed to go through each part and have those that wanted to try try, but from the looks of it they just wrote down on paper who they think should do each role and idk maybe mnet cut that part if it just feels like they said they were willing to redivide but they did it in a way that didn't really mean they had to out themselves on the spot again so they could still have protection over the roll they wanted

everett

personally, i think the pretty u team did the best overall out of all of the performances but fiesta team 1 is a close second! i had high hopes for the ssfwl teams but i was mainly focused on bora lol. i think ahn jeongmin and wang yale carried the mic drop performance and also the girl who was in the center in the beginning, but overall it was meh. and the eve performance was honestly just cringey to me but i also just dislike that song in general so it was hard to keep my focus personally, not to mention everyone just trying to one-up each other subconsciously or otherwise. the only thing i gained from it i think was adding shana and suyeon to my personal top 9 from then on, i think they both did great!! not that everyone else didn't but yknow. the first round of performances for any of these survival shows are never too outstanding and i personally enjoy the next rounds a lot more!

Ryan Dylan

The thing about the You Da Yeon situation. Is that she did bring up being able to try out for more than one part with the group when they were first assigning roles and was instantly and abruptly shut down. She tried telling them that she didn't think it was a fair way to divide parts and was told to just forget it and move on. I think it was just out of pure frustration and wanting to be heard that made her bring it up with the mentors. But even after that the team still didn't go about dividing the parts in an equitable way. It was crystal clear that no one was willing to relinquish their parts. In the end they still only decided what was best for themselves and not the team. Egos are not good for team work. I mean most bands or groups break-up when it becomes evident that peoples egos are getting in the way of them working together successfully. And I didn't find Da Yeon bringing it up uncomfortable. I found it uncomfortable the way they kept shutting her down without even hearing her out. I mean every other group allowed everyone to try out multiple times if they didn't get their 1st choice part. And every other groups team work was better, since all the other teams put the team ahead of their egos. I mean the Yes or Yes team won not just because they individually performed well but because the group showed good chemistry when they performed on stage. The judges made special note of it.

Jeanett Sæther

My favorite will for sure be Fiesta team 1, but im actually playing The Eve on repeat just because of Jiyoon and Shana's amazing vocals. They all did well but Yes or Yes really deserved the win for sure, either them or Pretty U. Eliminations get harder and harder every time so you if you are crying from great teamwork then you will for sure cry from the eliminations :')

Dee

from the ebs performances my favorites were 1- pretty you 2- the eve 3- mic drop honestly i don't want to sound mean but the second mnet chose mic drop i knew they weren't gonna pull it off, it sounded super underwhelming to me idk maybe it's because it's considered a personal song to bts so they couldn't pull of the vibes of it from the rapping to the dancing to the attitude when performing and it's sad because i genuinely like the trainees in it they're really talented like An jeongmin she's amazing so is her stage presence wang yale is the same although i liked her performances in ywy more than in gp999. i was kinda hoping they'd give them dynamite because i noticed idols in general really have fun performing it. also my favorite from this episode is fiesta red team as well but overall i think i like yes or yes red team

Upshot

Personally The Eve was my favourite of this round, but I liked Pretty U as well, so I wasn't not too upset about it. Btw: One important point about voting, that probably doesn't register as much watching it afterwards. Each vote is usually done for two weeks and you can vote once per day. But voting ended the day after this episode aired, so this episode (and all coming episodes right before the elimination) don't really have a big influence on the results of this round. So having your performance aired in the first episode is very important. It doesn't matter as much for those who already have a fanbase, but an underrated trainee having a standout performance might make all the difference if it's shown during the first week, but basically doesn't matter at all if it's shown in the episode right before elimination like this episode. Just one of the ways Mnet still has a big influence on the results even when they can't blatantly rig the numbers anymore

Anonymous

hi pd, i’ve been very engrossed with gp999, out of all of the leaders bora really stood out and you will see more of that in eps to come , (haeyoon from prod48 is the leader of cherry bullet) i would say that the one performance i always come back too two months later is the team 1 5th season, it made me fall in love with the song and i have it on repeat. i do believe that YorY team1 was the best overall and deserved the mcountdown spot. with the eve team… i found it off how people were finding dayeon rude as i did found the strategy strange aswell, but i completely agree with the judges about the timing of bringing the issue up. for suyeon, bora, shana, yeseo at this point in the competition i can see the ‘it’ factor that makes an idol , with companies mass producing kpop groups with a new debut every week the ‘it ‘ factor is getting harder to distinguish x

rebecca

i really cant look at fu ya ning without getting annoyed haha, i just really dont like her lol

Anonymous

To be fair, Mnet told her to say that. They both did get what they both wanted I guess lol.
