I haven't caught up on all of this weekend's wrap up content yet but I just wanted to say a huge thank you to PD and Blaire for putting out so much in such a short time frame. I've looked forward to the FNFC drops every week. Your reactions and thoughts and commentary are so enjoyable and made watching along (or re-watching) so fun! I originally thought it was going to be a pretty lame and lonely Halloween weekend, but I'm actually so stoked to sit down with some snacks and all these final episodes! So, thanks again for what I'm sure was a incredibly busy month of filming and for giving SO much spooky content to your patreons. Have a great Halloween! 🎃

like the girlfriend and cop were good people who got caught up in the homoerotic hurricane and I'm glad they pulled through. i personally think moonjo is dead

jimmirakeul

wait so i'm confused, is lee dong wook's character dead or alive lmao

Kiwi Space

I think Jong-woo was so brainwashed and gaslight with fear by Dong Wook character, that when Jong-Woo did kill Dong Wook character, Jong-woo still feels he is alive. Through Stockholm Syndrome, I think Jong-woo formed some bizarre bond with Dong wook, that doesn't allow his mind to escape Dong wook, no matter how much he hates him. P.S: Check out Alice in Borderland next!

there's a random extra in train to busan who looks exactly like the creepy pervert - when the gang break into the cart where the rich asshole barricaded themselves (after ma dong seok died)

okay i just finished watching 1st, that twist at the end. do you know HOW HARD i laughed at the end of episode 9 when you guys mentioned how you thought a twist of Jongwoo actually killing some of the ppl Moonjo did would happen?? i was literally cracked up. if you look at my comment on ep 9 i was like "oh i think i'd like that twist" because aghfhdh i knew it did actually happen, just not in ep 9. my thoughts when i watched this episode for the first time was just plain... ecstatic-ism. There are almost NO shows that go through with a corruption arc. The good guys always manage to fight off the darkness and as someone who LOVES corruption arcs that always leaves me disappointed so getting to this final episode and having THIS as the ending... I was so giddy. FINALLY another show other than (SPOILER) actually goes through with the corruption arc. The bracelet with the teeth thing--Its a question I have too. I just assume Jongwoo must've hidden it somewhere before they could confiscate it. Moonjo must be so happy that Jongwoo liked his present... jingles so prettily... while he's smashing skulls in LMAOOO Although the idea that he just didn't tell them could be possible. I kinda just assumed they'd see a teeth bracelet and think oh that could be evidence, but I don't think anyone other than Jongwoo even knows that's a thing until they probably found the tooth rings in Moonjo's stuff. I mean you *can* get bracelets with tooth charms. Made out of resin and stuff so Next thing, the idea of making Jongwoo into a murderer and the point.. now I don't know if this has much basis in REALITY but as a person who heavily consumes this type of plot whether in books, movies, or series (as well as really want to write smth like this one day), you have to think of it in the way a murderer might, but not just any murderer, a very specific kind like Moonjo (Or Hannibal Lecter). To Moonjo, his kills is art. As he says, it's not just murder he is doing, but art. So forget the fact its murder and think of it purely in terms of art you've created. Now think of the fact that there is no one else in this world who understands or appreciates your art like you do. Wouldn't that be very lonely? Moonjo has all these killers around him, including Kihyuk whom he made into one much like Jongwoo, but none of them are like him. Ms. Eom, the twins, the pervert... very much not artists. And Kihyuk? Kihyuk is like a lapdog or an assistant. But here comes Jongwoo who is already an actual artist, he's a writer. And he writes about crime at that--he clearly finds the mentality of people like Moonjo interesting already, so wouldnt' that mean HE could understand Moonjo? He could create art with Moonjo, surely. So breaking Jongwoo to the point where it's either go insane fighting his violent urges or regaining his sanity by giving into them is just... the appetizer of what Moonjo really wants. it's the molding process, or the sketching process. Jongwoo slaughtering all of Eden (and notice that after that... he regains his sanity. He let go and accepted his violent urges, gave into them, and then *lied* about it because he knew that while Moonjo could be considered self-defense, slaughtering 3 others certainly isn't) was the masterpiece finally being finished. Whether Moonjo is killed at the hands of his masterpiece doesn't matter anymore, because there's now another person like him, and he helped make it. For what's real and what isn't... there's a thread a person made (about why Moonjo is alive, which I personally will choose to believe) and there's 2 different scenes there. If you pay attention to it, you'll notice that in the scenes where Moonjo "died", he has wet hair. Why does he have wet hair? He wasn't the one in the rain, Jongwoo was. Hence those scenes were the scenes Jongwoo imagined--and probably told the police about. But the scene where Moonjo says "you are the greatest masterpiece i have ever created" in which he has dry hair, you see Jongwoo dropping the scalpel interesting, isn't it? Anyway, i read that the director filmed it purposefully in a way as to let the audience decide whether or not moonjo is alive, tho he personally thinks he's dead (saying that... there IS an extra that the author of the webtoon just released which... is interesting) Its interesting what you say about inspiration. Now my personal preference is that Moonjo is alive and the two of them reuinite somehow, but lets say that Moonjo is dead, I don't think Jongwoo is going to go off killing random people (and even in my personal preferred ending I don't think so either). He's not... gonna kill someone like Jieun for instance. I do think the idea of inspiration is interesting. Maybe when he gets writer's block, gets frustrated, I can see him lashing out at someone who ends up picking a fight with him, like those teenagers. someone he thinks is, quite frankly, trash. If Jongwoo kills again, I definitely think he's.. a lot more feral than Moonjo, he's definitely the type to go overboard and probably hurt himself in the process. I agree with Moonjo being more... he's fine with living on through Jongwoo. He put himself into him, so to speak. I also agree with Siwan's acting. WHEW--he wow'd me the most. Jongwoo is definitely my favorite character and that's a lot for Siwan's acting. to answer your question about Jongwoo's journey... I think Jongwoo always had this in him. Moonjo wasn't *wrong* in recognizing that killer instinct. it is definitely there. we see that with him at the Army. "I should've killed him". Long before he met Moonjo and i'm sure he felt that way about people growing up as well. I think it's not so much that Moonjo was wrong, it's just Jongwoo's thought process is also different. I don't know what happened to Moonjo during his childhood and if it has something to do with Ms. Eom's upbringing or if he would've been like this anyway, but Moonjo's targets are just... anyone. It doesn't matter to him and I think for Jongwoo is he does have that urge, but his urge focuses on people he deems unworthy to live. Trash people. the people that make life hell for others. With or without Moonjo, I think Jongwoo would've eventually ended up killing someone. They hint it early in the series, they constantly bring up Jongwoo's anger issues. I think Moonjo just brought it out of him way faster and way more violently. I think Jongwoo will end up killing again. Probably not as often and I don't think he'll go seeking it out, but when he comes into contact with another person that is Hell, so to say, I can see him killing again. The scene where he freaked out after Moonjo said "You enjoyed killing all those people"--I do think he was coming to his senses, but I think he was coming to his senses cause he realized he DID enjoy it... and that's what scared him. Because Jongwoo does have those human society's morals ingrained into him, unlike Moonjo. So it's the two sides of himself battling each other in that scene I think. it's so funny seeing both your's such differing opinions cuz me and all my friends are such... absolute LOVERS of Moonjo and specifically Moonjo/Jongwoo together. i mean i'm already working on my 2nd fanfic for them. But i guess we all love corruption arcs. we love it when the "bad guys" win haha I think Jongwoo knows deep down because when the cop was talking to him, he acted kind of weird to me? like purposefully avoiding the question. I def can see him going into a fugue state tho, but i think a part of him is aware. this was fun. i love this series so much and literally watched it right before you announced you'd be watching this so it was a ton of fun to re-watch with you. I hope you don't mind my incredibly long comments, i just seriously love this series, its the sort of story that I hope to write one day, let's just say haha thanks for reacting to SFH <3 it really deserves more attention.

the director said that he filmed purposefully to let the watcher choose whether or not he is alive. i personally like to think he is. (SPOILER FOR THE WEBTOON) tho there is an extra chapter that the author of the webtoon just released that has moonjo visiting jongwoo 9 yrs later in like the hospital? but i think it was meant as a teaser for his next work

minkit

OH and somethin I forgot to mention, i think i've heard there IS supposed to be a prologue series?? i see people mentioning it on twitter all the time, but I'm not sure if that's true or not. I'm very curious what that would look like if so...

Rachel

I do believe Jongwoo was turned into a serial killer, when he asked the police officer “what about those kids?” (or something like that) I interpreted it as in Jongwoo possibly doing similar things that Mrs. Um did to the twins and Moonjo by grooming them into killers from a young age, because if you think about it why was that dialogue even there if it had no purpose? Moonjo’s goal was to turn Jongwoo into a killer and possibly become ‘Murder Husbands’ based on what he told jongwoo after everyone else at the residence died. “You and I will be together forever” this is Moonjo’s way of telling Jongwoo that he won, he turned Jongwoo into a killer, and now Moonjo will always be with Jongwoo whether he’s alive or dead that’s why on the last shot we saw Moonjo saying Jagiya, he now lives within Jongwoo’s consciousness.

Rachel

I forgot to say that when I watched the finale for the first time and Jongwoo was writing “die” and there was the jagiya scene at the end, I was like “YES!” that’s when I realized I was actually rooting for Lee dong Wook’s character the entire time lmao

minkit

oh wow i never even thought about that scene with the kids and now i'm?? extremely curious what the thought process behind that was in canon, but i do really like your idea. "what about those kids" and the whole thing about good and evil? it's a very interesting thing for Jongwoo to wonder because it's not really... brought up during the rest of the series? oh now i have to do some thinking about this, i'm noting this down definitely...

Maria

I feel like we are left with a "..." on just how far he is gone from who he was at the beginning. when he was sitting on the bench and asked So Jung-Hwa "what do you think makes something good or evil?" - I think it all has to do with intention. but I do think intention can change over time and what Dong Wook's character did to him and put him through was some sort of brain washing. we don't really know how he will behave from here on bc of all the trauma he went through mentally. since he only killed the killers, we don't really know if he would kill and innocent person but he definitely is changed and can not go back to the way he used to be.

babymetalic

i rlly do personally believe moonjo is still alive and now they're gonna be serial killer besties/bfs. moonjo asked him "you felt good about killing them, didn't you?" and jongwoo realized he actually enjoyed it.

Thank you so much for watching Strangers from Hell! I watched it 2 years ago and enjoyed it just as much the second time around. All of the actors were amazing. I hated all of the villains and rooted for the main characters. I think Jongwoo did fundamentally change. Now, I don't think he will go around killing people in the future, but I think he did enjoy releasing his rage and frustrations. The reason why I think this is because he still has Jieun and his family. Like how he came to his senses and felt sorry about holding a knife to Jieun at the hotel, I think the "good people" in his life will keep him morally grounded.

Rachel

The villains were also main characters if you think about it, storyline surrounded the villains and their ways of killing and need to groom others into becoming like them but I get what you meant. I also agree that he enjoyed releasing his rage and frustrations, which is exactly what Moonjo wanted him to do. As for his family and Jieun… I don’t know, she was scared of him when he pulled that knife or whatever he was holding on her neck as well as that scene she saw of him talking to himself. I doubt they’ll ever be a couple again, and if they do, they’ll never be the same again because at this point Jongwoo’s changed. And whether or not he continues killing, I don’t think he’ll ever recuperate from Moonjo’s corruption of his consciousness which we saw at the very last scene. It could be possible that he only kills people who are like “Hell” to him, but I don’t see him killing people that doesn’t do anything bad to him.

man this series was an insane journey i really loved even tho i hated it lol i personally think that fighting scene and Jongwoo killing Dong Wook's character were real and by then Dong Wook had already completed his brainwashing and his objective to turn Jongwoo into someone like him and that's why he still sees him because Dong Wook got so much into his head that now he will forever live in it but idk if he broke for real and will continue to murder people because as you said he only killed people who were terrible and deserved so at the same time that I truly think Dong Wook misunderstood him and he's not a serial killer like the others i still think he might kill again just because now he is so messed up that he has almost no self control to his anger about Dong Wook's character i think the only motivation for him was that creating other murders was like art for him just as creating pieces with the people he murdered so that's why he put in so much time to do all that shit with Jongwoo just like he did with the previous creepy dude too i also wish we got to see Jongwoo and his girlfriend talking after all that and what would happen to the two of them because she kinda knows something wasn't right too, oh and im happy the police lady got out alive i was rooting for her so much, anyways in general it was a really amazing show and with amazing acting specially from Jongwoo's actor, the details he put on his acting in so many scenes are just incredible to watch

Yay! We're finished! Now that we're talking about it, Jongwoo (Siwan) is from a 2nd generation Kpop group, ZE;A (which I feel like y'all know already) But others might not… so I’m using this as a way to promote their music. But yeah... ZE;A might not gotten a great success together as a group, BUT individually tho? 4 of them are popping off Siwan: Strangers from Hell, Run On, The King in Love… Park Hyung Sik: Strong Girl Bongsoon, Hwarang…. Kwanghee: Our variety king, aside from Jokwon no Kpop idol has ever marked a place in variety shows like him. (Mijoo is almost there!) Dongjun: His movie A Way Station did okay. He is going to a lot of variety shows too. Jeon Somin is obsessed w this man j/

I really loved this series. It’s not necessarily my go to genre but I decided to watch it and was intrigued and I feel it lived up to its hype. There is a show that is like my favorite kdrama and it’s called Mouse you can watch on Viki. It’s such an amazing show as well. If you have another Drama poll it would be great to consider putting mouse on the poll.

I can't say I ENJOYED SFH, and PD's right about this not being one I'll rewatch (which is why I didn't rewatch it w/ you, just the last 3 min of the show & the discussion in this video). But it was so incredibly well done & I really appreciate that. From the casting & acting to the writing to the cinematography, it was all on point - to the extent that I watched this months ago & still can't bring myself to watch anything else Lee Dong Wook or Siwan are in because these characters still linger in my mind. I personally don't think Jeongwoo would become the gleeful, maniacal, meticulously planning serial killer. I think he got pushed WELL beyond his limits & snapped - had a psychotic break & totally lost his grip on reality in an extraordinary circumstance. BUT - I do think PD might have a point about a seed being planted; not for him to become that stereotypical serial killer, but for this level of violence to be an acceptable response to stressors throughout his life. No matter what, he needs A LOT of intense therapy & should probably move to Fiji or something.

I think that moonjo saw a lot of himself in jongwoo, their first conversation was about murder and I think that's what truly sold moonjo on jongwoo. I think that moonjo made jongwoo realise he *did* like killing and he couldn't take it and that's what truly broke him, I believe the cracks really started to show after he beat up those kids. I truly believe moonjo is alive and got away. I hate coming away from this as a moonjo stannie. If you want to see siwan in a role that's cute and where he plays a nice guy and it's pretty good there's Run on.

Hey PD, if your looking for another drama to watch next, I highly recommend “My Name”. Han so hee’s character is so different from what I’ve seen for her and I’m loving it. It has a very common plot but it’s executed pretty well. It’s pretty fast paced as well and it’s only 8 episodes. My favorite part was the action so I hope you watch it!

Rebecca Le Minh

I finally finished watching this with you! I don't have any answers lol however wanted to thank you for spooktober, because it was amazing and probaby so much work. And loved the setup too! I'm never leaving this patreon <3

I’m so glad you guys enjoyed Strangers From Hell! I’m not sure if you’re taking suggestions but I recommend Signal. It’s truly underrated internationally. It’s a sci-fi mystery thriller revolving around detectives from 2 time periods solving cold cases (some based on actual cold cases).
