Girls Planet 999 Ep. 5.mp4

Comments

rockthekazb0t

Quick note as I watch, in case you were confused - the first 4 episodes were prefilmed together in one big chunk, then the girls had about a month break before coming back for ep5, which is why you'll see many girls with drastically different hair colors!

jiminycricket

Male Model from the challenge was the blonde haired guardian in Chewing Gum MV

I swear that the eliminations will get harder to go through the further in you get. You get new favorites, some of the girls who got less screen time will get more and you will see their other sides as well. Im going through it again while watching with you because in these early eliminations i forgot who got eliminated! Im excited to see your next reactions for the girls! Some good preformances is on your way! My top 9 from this episode is: Choi Yujin, Kawaguchi Yurina, Shen Xiaoting, Seo Youngeun, Nonaka Shana, Sakamoto Mashiro, Kang Yeseo, Huening Bahiyyih, Ezaki Hikaru :)

A.D

also id be interested to hear your top 9 each episode!

GoldenBoy

Interesting take on the top9 PD your someone that has a good mindset when it comes to these things

emma

ahhh this is so bittersweet to watch

Anonymous

bora is really the sweetest girl. she's always so supportive of others and always hypes them up, she's so cute 😭

laura

Went back through my screenshots to present my top 9 I had during this episode: Kim Doah, Guinn Myah, Choi Yujin, Kim Dayeon, Kang Yeseo, Shen Xiaoting, Su Ruiqi, Ezaki Hikaru & Sakamoto Mashiro! All of them survived this episode and 5/9 made it to top 9 so I was pretty pleased. I do find the future elimination episodes to be a lot more painful simply because there's less girls left which means it's easier to get to know these girls and get attached to them. Anyways, looking forward to next week's reaction! The next mission has most of my favorite performances of the entire show :)

Aiz

Watching this now is making me so sad ;-; Can't wait to watch next two episodes with you though, they're my favourites!

Theia

Rewatching this it's really obvious that Mnet thought they had pushed the Yujin Yaning "situation" enough so Yujin would place first. Cause how dare place a Non-Korean first on a korean survial show? If you look for it in future episodes you can see how Mnet tries to push certain korean trainees, while trying to make especially chinese trainees look bad. Even the voting system will change in future episodes cause Mnet really doesn't want a Non-Korean center in their debut group.

Lastelios

"if the voting is just a popularity contest from the audience how is anybody is suppose to get there " You know nothing, Jon Snow.

Cristine

Next week's performances are going to be soo good!!! Can't wait ^^

Maf

rankings are not forever, things change every episode, because voting system changes. After this episode the cell voting is over, then you will vote for 3 Cs, 3 Js and 3s Ks, after one C, one J and one K and in the end you can only chose one overall. They thought Bahiyyih would be in the TOP9 because she has a really big fandom.

Joy

During their month break before shooting the elimination episode many of the trainees were looking themselves up and watch the episodes live. Mnet uploaded the girls solo fan cams and Bahiyyih’s blew up (over 3 million views I believe) so that’s why a lot of the girls thought she would be top 9. The sad thing about the break is that a lot of the girls saw hate comments said about them so, to me it was easy to notice which trainees lost confidence. Excited for PD too soon see the legendary dance stage!

Fadi - moonlight

May, the Japanese girl in Yujin's cell, is also a Cherry Bullet member! She is their maknae.

About the ending statements being cut and only focusing on certain people. Mnet from the very beginning was transparent that they were only going to show and focus on the girls they want to be in the group. The PD and various executives had a press conference before the show started and straight up said that. Due to the actions Mnet took in past survival shows, people went to prison and they were court ordered to make the voting accountable to a third party. So since they can't mess with the votes in GP999 they instead use screen time and editing to try to get the people watching the show to vote in a way that Mnet wants.

Anonymous

Hey PD, at the end of the episode they explain that international votes will account for 50% of the points and Korean votes will account for the other 50%. This effectively means one Korean vote can equal many international votes. What do you think about the weighting of the votes?

excellen

This elimination didn't hurt as much since like you most of the people that I remembered or was rooting for made it. I was just super nervous about Hyerim since she didn't make it by votes but thank god she got the Planet Pass. But like everyone said since we have less girls now girls that weren't shown as much before will appear more and we will learn more names and that's when we get attached to people. I didn't have a top 9 at this point in the show because I waited till after this elimination. Before my number 1 favorite since episode 1 was Mashiro and I started to like Chaehyun after Yes or Yes. My top 9 after this elimination I think it was: Xiaoting, Yurina, Mashiro, Chaehyun, Yeyoung (the K02 girl), Hyerim, Huang Xingqiao, Youngeun and Yeseo

rockthekazb0t

And also realize, that also means how much a Korean vote is worth changes depending on how many people vote because it's not a SET ratio. If 10 Koreans and 20 internationals vote, the ratio is 1:2, so it takes 2 global votes to equal 1 korean. Now imagine if you add 30 more international voters in, now the ratio would be 1:5, making the Korean vote worth 5 times more. And so on. Tl;dr - the weight of Korean votes are ridiculously overpowered because of this "50% of all the votes" thing. I really wish they had just made it a set ratio that never changed. My vote went from being worth 1/6th of a Korean vote to like ~1/20th by the end and it sucked.

Maf

Yes, there was a lot of pressure on Bahiyyih... She received so much hate throughtout the show and she knew about it... At least there are a lot of people who support her <3 (sorry for commenting again, but I am doing it while I am watching your reaction)

Amanda Bernström

i felt so bad for Bahiyyih, she got so much hate during the show. So yes, there probably was so much pressure on Bahiyyih and everyone thinking she will be in the to 9 because she is the ypunger sister of Kai.

pip pop

tbh i always voted for yurina but i was surprised that she was first like i knew a lot of ppl liked her but i didn’t think she would rank this high. I remember watching this i was sooo sad that rayeon and dayeon were eliminated.

kyujinz

the 37:05 model girl is joung min, she's a bbc trainee!

Ulla Molina

Ah, it’s really hard to not spoil anything. Not on purpose, but just discussing the trainees and the show. Will it be a big spoiler if I say that some of the trainees won’t get anything from mnet, and some will get things they never asked for? But it’s mnet, we know what we should expect. Also, Wen Zhe. Her bamboozled 👁👄👁 face is the best. Amazing. The voting system is also interesting. I had a strong one pick during the show, basically did the whole thing for her only. So I had to fill in other voting spots with other trainees I never felt too strong about. It felt very different after I-LAND, where we every time had only one vote (during second part).

Irving

About Bahiyyih yeah I think that she must have a lot of preasure, she received a lot of hate because of the brother thing, but on the other hand she does has a strong fanbase so maybe that's why a lot of the girls where surprise she did not make it on the top9, she was not one of my top picks as of now on the show but I really look foward to her, she sounds very stable on stage and I love her voice. My picks as of now are xiaoting may and yujin. May, the one on the same cell as yujin that you don't remember is actually a member from cherry bullet along with jiwon and bora btw I think you missed a part at the end when the girls were saying goodbye to the eliminated trainees :v

excellen

some things I forgot to answer you: 1) GP999 has 12 episodes in total 2) Kep1er reads like Kepler...the 1 it's like a L 3) about the japanese rankings, you are correct that for them you don't need to be japanese to rank high in their polls. From what I read about it for them you need the skills to back it up your rankings. The japanese that like kpop idols like them because they find them more skillful than j-pop idols so for them it doesn't matter if you are korean, chinese or japanese they will like you as long as you show them korean idol-like skills.

M

Watching this again with you after having already seen the whole thing hurts way more than I expected lmao and btw you might be missing a couple of after credits scenes (this one had the girls say goodbye to the ones who were eliminated), so watch out for the next ones!

Anna Banana

Unfortunately for bahiyyih, she won’t won’t appear much other than for reactions, Monet never really gave her screen time throughout the show

A

Just for some background: The Japanese girl with Wen Zhe and Kim Sein is Okazaki Momoko, a previous member of Sakura Gakuin and more recently a dancer for the jmetal group Babymetal. Momoko was very popular internationally right from the beginning which is a large part of why their cell was ranked so high. She was unfortunately not allowed to mention Babymetal whatsoever due to the group’s heavily protected lore, which meant mnet had no reason to give her any screen time. She’s suuuuch a talented dancer so I’m really sad she didn’t get a chance to show her skill. (To add: A lot of people also stopped voting for their cell due to mnet’s edit of Sein during Yes or Yes practice which caused a massive hate wave.)

flowerbit

I remember at this point in the show, my top 9 was: xiao ting bora mashiro yujin yeseo manami chaehyun wen zhe shana/ liang jiao (I would alternate who I voted for lol)

sandra

if i remember correctly my top 9 after this elimination was: kim chaehyun, an jeongmin, ezaki hikaru, yoon jia, seo youngeun, wen zhe, kishida ririka, guinn myah, kim hyerim and this isn't solely based on talent but also star factor and likeability, the ones who left a strong first impression on me i was rooting for shana, ziyin and yale as well. my top9 really changed each round though, it's so interesting going back and rewatching it from the start again and seeing how much these girls improved!

Roman

Everyone was really shocked by Yurina being so high because she didn’t have too much hype in the beginning! Just like you mentioned, everyone liked her but she wasn’t lots of peoples top pick. People knew she was popular but not to that extent. Also May (the Japanese girl in yujin’s cell) is also a member of Cherry Bullet! She’s the maknae of the group!

Sathya

After this elimination a lot of people were a little mad about Yurina being P1 if I remember correctly. I think the problem with the voting system was that people thought the most talented girls where the Korean trainees but they still had to vote for 3 Chinese and 3 Japanese trainees so many of them were filler votes. The thing is that when you HAD to vote for Japanese girls most of them got no screen time at all, so although many of them were very talented you wouldn’t know unless you saw their fancams. And I don’t think anyone bothered to watch the 99 fancams from the connect mission. That made Yurina the most recognizable face from J group, so even if she wasn’t your 1 pick or even your J group pick…most likely you were gonna end up voting for her. I think during that voting period i voted for her everyday although my J pick was Hikaru. If voting had been different the first round i think Yujin would have been P1, but with so many talented girls in K group, many people opted to vote for other trainees that they thought needed the help more than her. Also I think that the most defining moment in this shows is the intro stage, and the trainees not being able to choose the songs (Mnet was the one to choose what they had to perform) really screwed some girls over. Imagine that you have a lot of charisma and really shine doing girl crush concepts but you have to do a cute concept in the intro stage. Most people would not even know how talented you are. For example Xia Yan (The rapper that you liked in the HYLT performance) had to do Iz*one’s Violeta during the intro stage (and it wasn’t even aired), so many people only realized how good she was after the HYLT performance, by then they had already wasted a week of voting for other C trainees who were just fillers for them, like Cai Bing. So yeah, the voting was weird in that aspect, specially because if a girl really impressed you in the second week of performances, the voting would close the next day so you had no time to vote for them. I think that answers your question about the votes being only popularity based and not performance based. Even if you wanted to vote for the most talented girls, you would have to do it based on the previous performance cause you still didn’t know how they would do. Therefore this eliminations votes were mostly based on the intro stages…that Mnet chose, and what we knew about the girls personality… or what Mnet wanted us to see about the girls. I’m sorry to write such a long comment, but i think that is what most people were thinking at the time online, more specifically reddit lol.

lllllllllllalaaa

my top 9 at the time was 1 Kim Chae Hyun (visual vocal her sweet polite attitude got her to be my bias during her whole stay in the show) 2 Seo Young Eun 3 Sakamoto Mashiro 4 Kim Dayeon 5 Shen Xiao Ting 6 Yoon Ji A 7 Yurina 8 Ye Young (k2) 9 Shana

Kiah Elsie

I’m watching girls planet 999 with you PD, but since I know what the final debut group is…. Ughsksbdowbdid I’m so upset for a lot of the girls I really want to see a lot of them debut 🥲

sakeofblake

i always end up rooting for so many trainees in these types of survival shows that it's hard to have a top 9. but at this point in the show i had been rooting for hikaru, yujin, ji a, cai bing, bahiyyih, da yeon and shana, since they all caught my attention. but in the following episodes, some of my favorite performances btw, my list started to come together and really solidify into an actual top 9

everett

i was and still am a ride or die fan of xu ziyin, the chinese girl you said was a good speaker lol. i was watching ywy2 when it was airing and she immediately caught my attention and i was so stoked to see her here, but unfortunately mnet really doesn't give her much attention or screentime unless its for reactions. the same goes for xia yan, who got edited out so badly i didnt even KNOW she was in the show until i saw her in the hylt performance. after this elimination i believe my top 9 was something like: 1. xu ziyin 2. kim bora 3. shen xiaoting 4. choi yujin 5. nonaka shana 6. seo youngeun 7. sakamoto mashiro 8. kawaguchi yurina 9. kim chaehyun ! but i love so many trainees from this batch its so hard to give an order besides ziyin and bora for me. i'm excited to see your reaction to the next performances bc they're honestly the best in the show to me!

Benjamin Gonzales

Other than being in Busters, Kang Yeseo was in the kid group Cutie L in 2010, thereby making her the Sunbae to all the girls, even Yujin

Emily L.

Ah the voting system is really one of my main gripes with GP999 (along with the screen time but that's a whole other story). On the surface the 3:3:3 ratio seems fair bc of the 3 countries. However you don't realize how many girls get edited to the point that they don't exist unless you're personally seeking them out in the show or fancams. Some K and C girls experienced this, but J girls really got the worst of it. I think it was pretty clear, especially when PD pointed out that they didn't recognize a lot of the J names during the individual ranking at the end. If I'm being honest in my experience as a viewer, I really wanted to vote for more K girls bc overall I had more talented picks in the group, but the 3:3:3 ratio limited that and caused me to vote for other girls. Think of it this way, I had to rotate my votes for K girls each day bc there were so many that I liked. But with C and J girls, it was usually always the same 3 (personally and maybe for a lot of people) which accumulates in their individual votes while many K girls are spread out. Hence those C and J girls rank higher overall while K is lower.

Diana

Hope PD sees this because this is EXACTLY what happened. And then when the final voting came along and...you know, no spoilers for PD, things went down as they did.

Emily L.

Oh my gosh yes this comment, I hope PD reads it! The voting period was so weird when you took in account how the episodes aired. I really remember this specifically for the upcoming performances. We got half of the performances in one ep and spend the week voting in accordance to that (though I tried combining that and voting for my favs even if their performance wasn't shown yet if they were someone I wanted in the long run). But then you're really wowed about a girl's performance in the next episode but welp guess what there's only one day left of voting. So while I'm fine with PD coming up with their top 9 right before each elimination, it won't exactly match what the viewers of the show experienced bc of that weird timing of what was aired in each voting window.

Diana

Thank you very much for addressing the situation with Bahiyyih. Poor girl has received so much hate ever since the start of the show. Not just holding her to a higher standard (I guess the least crazy ones did that), but regular, delulu haters just kept trashing on how people liked her and voted for her because of Kai, which just made me very sad and also very angry because what do they know. In that regard, the situation was pretty similar to TXT's. People bashing how they only got views on their debut because people were curious about them due to BTS. I think we can acknowledge that a lot of people were curious about Bahiyyih because of Kai (their older sister Lea was also an idol for a while, and she has a Youtube channel where Bahiyyih used to appear), but that was certainly not the reason most people decided to stay and root for her. I remember watching her demo stage, before I began to watch the show, and not really liking her that much. Then clips of the next performances kept appearing on my recommendations, and I was hooked. Sadly, you won't see much of her other than during the actual stages, and Msnake somehow managed to cut her screen time to the strictly necessary even there. Amazes me still

onyx.

my top 9 has always been the same, and i don't really list them in order: - ezaki hikaru - yujin - mashiro - shana - huening baiyyih - kim suryeon - young eun - chaehyun - bora - cai bing - empty spot fyi, may is the maknae from cherry bullet

Ulla Molina

Well, PD, from what we saw in I-LAND, is a firm believer of “no screen time because not entertaining enough for the producers to include”. And I think that the amount of screen time and the likes is a spoiler

Oligom

PD, i really think you should have a printed out list of the girls who are debuted idols with names and pictures for each of them :p it feels like a lot of times you have the feeling that you've seen them somewhere but cant recall where, and that might take care of that for you :D

Anonymous

About Matsui Jurina, she actually left the show early due to her health (this was when she went on hiatus after collapsing onstage)

Annika

I think the reason they were surprised at yurina ranking so high is bc yurina got alot of attention for her fancy stage but the girls probably didnt know , she didnt really get alot of lines or screentime in how you like that and the girls probably all thought bc bahiyyih is very popular internationally she would rank higher but thats just my guess since we probably see things differently than how they are in the actual show bc of editing

Stephanie Dockery

May one you don’t know that’s with Yujin . She is maknae from Cherry Bullet :)!

Isabella N.

same, i already started getting attached to some of them and then as i was watching this episode with PD i was like “… oh no, wait, she’s not gonna make it and neither is she…”

Anonymous

I was one of those people who were really surprised (at first watch) that Yurina got P01 in this eliminations, and that's because I never saw much of her after that wonderful demo stage. Lots of people were surprised (and enraged) when that happened. On this second watch on GP999, I still barely know many of the C and J group girls and I totally blame Mnet for this. The ones that I definitely recognize and know are those that have been put on the spotlight, or were given a highlight during their demo stages. Rewatching this show with you really makes me think of things in hindsight. I'm going to refrain to drop names since I could accidentally spoil you the final lineup... Man, were they edited to heck by Mnet lol. Really can't wait for you to catch up because the next mission is interesting. The editing is also going to get worse, just saying.

Winter

my only pet peeve with shows like this the mentors. they all do a fantastic job giving advice and helping the girls, but i feel like they should have a bigger role like the mentors in iland. at least save brining in popularity votes for the end. in iland, the mentors were able to look at each individuals skill and weed out the weaklings before they brought in popularity voted in part ii, and even then global voting was only used twice. i feel like people also really took in the mentors words in iland and voted responsibly unlike in gp999. at the end of the day, all mnet shows are popularity based, but still it would be nice to give the masters a bigger hand since so many talented ppl (popular or not) could have made it had they’d been the ones calling the shots on eliminations- at least for some rounds. but im overall satisfied with how everything turned out, and im sure u will be too! can’t wait for the next contest! imo those are the best round of performances!!

Is there anther link to the episode .. please help
