The BONUS Study: SEVENTEEN 'DREAM' MV

Comments

h

the song got released on the same day yg announced mashiho & yedam left treasure so my emotions where a mess when i first listened to it but i can say it's been stuck in my head ever since and i've been loving it more and more. also the mv is so stunning and from the trailer have me 'hotel del luna' vibes haha. idk why the song is so short, it's missing a whole bridge, so the line distribution is very off. but i'm glad people like jun, jeonghan. wonwoo, minghao and shua got to shine on the track, as usual they are their japanese songs main characters. i saw some seungkwan stans upset on twitter about him only getting one line but tbh i see no issue with it, the line he got is a killig part and he gets 2-3 lines in most comebacks so there's no issue with him taking a step back for once especially in such a short song, to allow other members to get their chance to shine. such a good song. hoping svt give us a callx3/24h 2.0 for their next japan comeback, it would be the perfect balance.

Seventeen have something really special. Yes they can pull off any concept sexy, strong etc but their comfort songs are the best. I see this as the perfect comeback after _WORLD. They don't need to put the hardest dance moves, raps or vocals. They can make you feel everything with such simple concepts. They are literally a cmfort group and that's why they're my ults.

Paulina Barzola

starting the song with jeonghan was the right move. my ults never disappoint me <3

I honestly believe no other K-pop group is touching Seventeen's Japanese track releases. I started tearing up smiling while watching this the first time too lol, and the song is so calming omg! I can't explain it but it gives such a comforting feel to it and the MV gives off that vibe to me too.

Hey PD! I’m a Japanese carat and just want to mention that Hoshi’s part where he sings “my destination to become a star is the only thing that remained” he actually says “to become an actual planet star (which is HOSHI in Japanese )” not a celebrity star. I believe woozi and other creators intended to double the meaning of the lyrics “hoshi” as in Hoshi himself singing that he wants to be a star and I think it’s super clever:)

Rebecca Le Minh

People have been saying that the ceiling in the main dance scene looks like Woozi's studio where he made their dreams come true and it makes me cry

Something I worry about regarding Seungkwan is actually that he's so busy. I wonder if he was given less lines intentionally given that these are Japanese promotions and sometimes Seungkwan may have conflicting Korean variety schedules?

Blaire 🌻

Yup. I think for me SEVENTEEN and TWICE produce my favorite Japanese songs from K-Pop groups!

I'm aware of the hoshi meaning and the double meaning was what I was going for; thanks for breaking it down beautifully :)

ooo could be but i also think seungkwan is another mark situation where he loves what he’s doing & over fills his plate. like seungkwan is crazy busy & despite that he books himself for more gigs like recently he was on an mmtg episode with moonbin, sinb & umji. he wasn’t asked to be on it originally but once he heard the line up he joined in last minute to be on the ep with this 98line friends.

Wow the Janapanese language is so beautiful. Thank you for this explanation it makes the song even more special

zircadia

I keep listening to this song over and over on repeat - I only wish it could be longer. More! It is so beautiful and I feel like your reaction to the touching nature of the lyrics was so deserved. <3

woah i love your observation about the directing of the mv! i never would have noticed that!

i just read some article before after this ep came out that this was about a real story about a korean doctor who cloned his dog, this became like a big issue in korea like how unethical it is, cloning as a whole. Now this gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. Anyways, i really enjoyed watching it again with you both!
